“ | You two work perfectly together! I'll teach Romani's horse-calling song to you, Grasshopper. Now you two keep getting along and go practice some more! | „ |
~ Romani |
Romani is a minor supporting character in The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask. She is the younger sister of Cremia, who both live in Romani Ranch where they take care of their Cuccos and cows, the latter which is often targeted by the invaders who regularly arrive a few days before the Carnival of Time arrived. She often refers to herself in the third person. She is the Terminian counterpart of Hyrule's younger self of Malon.
Biography[]
After the death of their father, Romani Ranch has fallen on hard times from suffering from destroyed milk containers to the disappearances of their cows. Romani is well aware of the existance of the ghosts that come each year to steal their cows and tries to confide to Cremia about it, but she unfortunately does not believe her. Even then, Romani takes up archery self-training and used the Poe balloons as target practice and has a plan in her room on where they are stationed. She somehow finds Link's horse Epona and takes her to the stable.
First Day[]
On the Dawn of the First Day, Link pays her a visit at the Ranch where he finds Romani running around practicing with her small bow. Romani will introduce herself and calls Link Grasshopper due to his wearing green and pattering around whenever he runs. Romani then tells Link that the reason why she is practicing is because of what is happening tonight and tells of the ghosts that will come at 2:30 am to steal her cows, often referring to the creatures as "They" and "Them", and she needed to find someone who believes and willing to help her when her sister dismisses her worries. If Link has not yet recovered Epona, she will teach Epona's song to him before beginning the training session, but if Link already has learned it, then she gets straight to the training regime. After Link successfully passes the test, Romani will be overjoyed to see that Link and Epona bond so well and tells him not to be late.
On the Night of the First Day, Romani and Cremia will be having dinner before turning in to bed for the night at 8:00. At 2:00 am, Romani will come out of the house and positions herself at the barn where the cows are in. At 2:30 am, the Ghosts arrive. Link has to keep the ghosts away from the barn as long as he can until 5:15 am. The outcome depends on Link's performance:
Failure[]
If Link fails to defend the barn from the ghosts, they will dismantle the roof and use a tractor beam to abduct the cows along with Romani and they are taken away for the rest of the night.
Success[]
If Link successfully protects the barn from the invaders by the time 5:15 rolls around, they will dissipate by the first sunlight and Romani will thank Link for his help and rewards him with a bottle of Milk, or a fishing pass if Link already has that bottle calling him little hero before she heads back into the house to get her much needed sleep.
Second Day[]
Failure[]
On the Dawn of the Second Day, only Romani will be returned to the ranch as the cows are still in captivity, but she will walk around at the southwestern part of the area, extremely disorientated and not responding to Link when he tries to talk to her, while Cremia spends time in the barn, feeling tremendous guilt for not believing her about the ghosts to begin with and wishing she did.
On the Night of the Second Day, Romani will be in bed at 6:00 instead of her usual time of 8:00 as Cremia eats dinner alone.
Success[]
On the Dawn of the Second Day, both Romani and Cremia will be inside the intact barn tending to the cows and Cremia plans to make her first milk delivery to the Milk Bar in Clock Town in ages and Romani wanted to come along though Cremia refuses, stating that she has to keep the cows company while she is away and invites Link to tag along on her wagon throughout her journey for the purpose of him defending the milk bottles from the Gorman Brothers.
On the Night of the Second Day, Romani will be disappointed over having to stay behind while Cremia delivers the milk to its destination. She decides to have Link keep the events of the previous night a secret as to not make her sister worry too much though Cremia wouldn't believe her.
Final Day[]
Failure[]
On the Dawn of the Final Day, Romani will be sitting on a crate outside the house staring into space and will periodically put her head in her hands and tremble violently. When spoken to, Romani will host the training regime and if Link either turns down the offer or successfully completes the practice route, Romani will wonder what they are training for since she doesn't remember, which reveals that she has no memory of the existence of the ghosts that she has been training all this time.
On the Night of the Final Day, Romani will have dinner with her sister, who is still distraught over the events as Romani is still zoning out once again unresponsive.
Success[]
On the Dawn of the Final Day, Romani returns to her routine of training as she did on the First Day, to prepare for future attacks and will host the minigame for Link when he requests it while Cremia will be up north tending to the cows, unable to ignore the reality of the Moon falling onto Clock Town and people living there taking refuge at the ranch in hopes of being spared this fate, though she realized that they may not be safe at the ranch either and embraces the possibility that the entire world will not go on to see another day.
On the Night of the Final Day, both Romani and Cremia will be in the barn where Cremia plans on letting Romani try the Chateau Romani milk as she considers her an adult.
New Day[]
During the ending, Romani will be seen successfully hitting the balloon targets as Cremia cheers her on.
