Rookie is a Colonial Marine and the main protagonist of the Marine campaign of Aliens Vs Predator 2010 and one of the three protagonists in the overall game. A private involved in his first combat drop against Xenomorphs, Rookie was injured by a piece of debris during the landing on BG 386, and was left behind by his comrades after being caught in a Xenomorph ambush. Upon waking up, Rookie became a major player in the war on Freya's Prospect, where he accomplished multiple feats. Rookie, with the aid of Corporal Tequila, managed to kill the Matriarch, the Xenomorph Queen responsible for the infestation on the planet. After witnessing Corporal Tequila being shot down by a Predator, Rookie joined forces with the administrative android Katya to find and rescue her. After defeating the Predator that had shot her down, Rookie found Tequila only to learn she had been impregnated with a chestburster. Rookie brought Tequila to the Weyland Yutani labs to remove the chestburster only for Karl Bishop Weyland, the CEO of Weyland Yutani, to shut off the power to Tequila's surgery equipment, dooming her to death out of spite. Informed by Katya that the only way to escape was through a dropship that only Weyland had access to, Rookie went to Weyland's research site at the Predator pyramid, killing three Praetorians, before slaughtering Weyland's combat androids, and engaging Weyland himself in a gunfight. Recovering Weyland's executive data pad, Rookie mortally damaged Weyland, who was revealed to be an android, Rookie escaped the pyramid, reunited with Katya and Tequila, who was now in hypersleep, and boarded Weyland's dropship before entering hypersleep himself.

Early life[]

Little is known of Rookie's early life, though he applied to join the Marine Corps at some point. He passed basic training and became a tech expert, given that he posessed a Comtech Hacking Device, used to open doors. He was stationed on Fort Osney, where he developed a friendship with a Marine named JW. He also had a cordial relationship with Corporal Tequila, who repeatedly mentored and cared for the Marine. Rookie was assigned to the USS Marlow, under Major Thomas Van Zandt, becoming the first Marine in his unit to be assigned to a warship, and would be sent on his first combat mission to BG 386 after the colony of Freya's Prospect sent out a distress call detailing a class 4 Xenomorph infestation.

Landing on BG 386 and Fighting in the Colony[]

In a few days, the Marlow arrived over BG 386, and began deploying its force of a few hundred marines down onto the planet. Rookie was in a dropship along with Corporal Tequila and Major Van Zandt when a Predator cruiser arrived and destroyed the Marlow with three missiles. Van Zandt recognized the Marlow was destroyed and ordered the Marines to strap themselves in and hold tight, and told Rookie that meant him as well. As the blast wave rocketed the dropship, Tequila asked Rookie what the matter was and inquired if they covered this in combat simulation. Just then, a piece of debris, came loose and hit Rookie in the head, knocking him unconscious. Once they touched down on the planet's surface, Major Van Zandt ordered Tequila to get Rookie up as he was unconscious, and Tequila dragged the semi conscious private to his feet. Van Zandt briefed the squad and informed them that there was a potential Xenomorph infestation on the planet, and urged the squad to kill the Xenos at a distance to avoid their acidic blood before leading the squad inside. Once at the garage, the Xenomorphs ambushed the squad, and slaughtered a large portion of them, with Rookie fading in and out of consciousness during the fight. In the end, Van Zandt and Tequila called a retreat, and Rookie was left behind in the garage.

Rookie came to later on, and was contacted by Corporal Tequila, who informed him that the Marines thought he was dead, and encouraged him to take his time and look around slowly. After getting to his feet, Tequila informed him that the squad had to retreat and leave him behind, but that he had missed the Xenomorph ambush. Tequila encouraged him to take a stim to heal him of his injuries, before ordering him to find a way out of the garage, informing him to head to the basement and sending an objective marker to his heads up display. While moving through the garage, Tequila told Rookie that he was clear of friendlies, so if anything moved, he should open fire. Tequila then went off mic for a while as she had to help Major Van Zandt at the refinery. Rookie moved through the basement, with his motion tracker informing him of the many Xenomorphs around him. Rookie entered the bathroom to restore power to the garage and open a way out, just as a civilian technician he found was chestbursted with the chestburster fleeing into the vents. Rookie entered the colony and moved to the Operations building, where Tequila contacted him again and told him to reset the power with the power breaker. Rookie reset the power, but was attacked by a Xenomorph warrior. Just as Rookie pried the door open, the Xenomorph tried to attack him. Rookie managed to close the door at the last minute, but the Xenomorph started to bang the door to force it open. Tequila quickly reactivated the steam to cause to overflow and the boiling steam caused the Xenomorph to retreat. Rookie exited the room throughout the other door, where the Xenomorph ambushed him again. Tequila immediately told him to shoot it from a distance due to the creature's acidic blood. Rookie killed the warrior and moved on, with Tequila informing him that the power had gone out on her end and she was locked in the Administration building. Rookie made his way through the colony, while Tequila noted that whatever sank the Marlow had made the Xenomorphs the dominant player in the war, and the mission on BG 386 was shaping up to be more disastrous than the mission on Acheron. Rookie made it to a garage where a squad of marines led by Franco were engaging a small amount of Xenomorphs. Rookie was then attacked by another Warrior, but he managed to kill the creature. Franco was mortally injured and the rest of his squad was killed, but he managed to open the garage for Rookie, while Tequila lamented Franco's death. Informed that it was all up to him to get to Administration, Tequila told Rookie that the mission was a mess and that he needed to stay frosty. Arriving at Administration, Tequila detected movement ahead of Rookie, and Rookie briefly heard Predator laughter. Entering Administration, Rookie was informed by Tequila that she was locked in the room, but the emergency generation beside the door would take power nodes and she saw some lying outside. Rookie found the power node and restored power to Administration, opening the door and being greeted by Corporal Tequila, who praised him and told him they were even, before telling him to come in and grab a pulse rifle.

Battle in the Club and Capture by the Xenomorphs[]

Corporal Tequila then wondered what Weyland Yutani had done, as the large amount of Xenomorphs usually occurred whenever Weyland Yutani was involved with something, and she also wondered about the new hostiles who had suddenly arrived and destroyed the Marlow. Tequila then took control of some of the colony's systems and unwittingly restored power to the Club. A Marine named Conor then informed Tequila that everything was online in the Club, but that the Xenomorphs were moving and requested backup. Tequila then sent Rookie out to the Club to help the squad, while she stayed behind to get the rooftop sentry turrets online to give her some protection from the Xenomorphs. Rookie headed out, killing a Xenomorph that had infiltrated Administration, and rapidly arrived at the Club. Rookie and Tequila noted that the music was off and the marines must be near, and checked the next floor. Noting the skinned bodies of several marines, Tequila hypothesized a new breed of Xenomorph. Private Gibson then contacted Rookie and informed them he was en route, as the Marines were massacred, however Gibson was attacked by a Xenomorph and dragged off to the Hive. The music then started again and Rookie was attacked by several Xenomorphs with the elevators down. Tequila desperately scrambled to restore power to the elevators while Rookie fought off the Xenomorphs. Tequila eventually succeeded after Rookie killed all the Xenos and Rookie headed back to another part of the Club to regroup with the survivors of Echo team. However the marines were quickly attacked by the Xenomorphs again. Rookie managed to restore power to one sentry gun, but the other marines were slaughtered upstairs. Charlie squad, the reinforcements Tequila had sent were slaughtered and Rookie was forced to retreat, escaping to the colony's sewer system. Tequila ordered a general retreat and told Rookie to use the sewer system to escape. Rookie complied and killed the two Xenomorphs he encountered, but upon being suddenly pursued by a horde of Xenomorphs, Tequila told him to run. Rookie did as stated and was almost able to escape, but a Xenomorph attacked him from a floor grate and dragged him into it, knocking him out as Tequila called his name in panic.

Escaping the Xenomorphs and finding Van Zandt[]

Rookie later came to in the mines being dragged by the Xenomorph who had captured him to the Hive. Reacting quickly, Rookie took out his pistol and killed the Xeno before getting to his feet. Making his way through the mines, and killing the two warriors he encountered, he was contacted by Corporal Tequila, who noted Rookie must have a guardian angel to have escaped before he was taken to the Hive, before running a trace and seeing he was by the Refinery, which was Major Van Zandt's last known location before she lost contact with him. She told Rookie to head to the refinery outbuilding and realign the satellite dish to the colony, which would allow her to get into the core network. Making his way to an open door and recovering a shotgun from a dead marine, Rookie entered the outbuilding, and was warned by Tequila to watch himself since she was losing his signal. Aware that he would need an emergency generator to power the elevator, Rookie entered a room, but was almost attacked by a facehugger. Rookie managed to kill the thing before it could jump at him and restored power to the elevator with a power node he found. Killing another facehugger that ambushed him, Rookie made it to the roof and realigned the dish, allowing Tequila to see everything there. However, the damage the uplink endured meant that Tequila could not see inside the Refinery itself and Rookie was instructed to head back through the elevator to the Refinery's service bridge. Gunning down several Xenomorph warriors who were alerted to his presence, Rookie made it out of the outbuilding, before heading to the Refinery's service bridge. Once there, the upper mine blast doors opened and eight Xenomorph warriors attacked him, only for Rookie to slaughter them all. Entering the upper mine complex, Rookie killed a facehugger that attempted to attack from above, and made his way to the elevator controls that would take him into the Refinery building itself. Tequila informed him that he would have to bypass it with his hacking device himself, starting the bypass, wait until the hacking was done, then remove the device to finalize the override process. No sooner had Rookie started the hacking device, that he was attacked by half a dozen Xenomorphs, while Tequila was attacked simultaneously and was forced to open fire. Rookie managed to defeat his attackers, and Tequila informed him that his hack tool was done. Rookie removed the hacking device and took the elevator into the Refinery. Heading to the control room, Rookie activated the network, and Tequila patched in, causing her to see him, with his online and vitals all good. Tequila also discovered a data file the administrative android had stored, and when she intrigued further, a short video played revealing the presence of Karl Bishop Weyland. Tequila and Rookie were surprised to see the CEO of Weyland Yutani on the planet, alerting them that it had something extremely special or important for him to be personally overseeing the colony on the planet. Tequila then instructed Rookie to move through the building while for Van Zandt, with the plan being to recover the Major then exfiltrate the planet together. Rookie moved through the building, killing every single Xenomorph he encountered. Tequila then told Rookie she had found the Major and instructed him to head into the bowels of the Refinery.

Rookie then picked up a flamethrower, and he and Tequila discovered the Refinery had been the main Xenomorph Hive, and Tequila and Rookie when they saw the size of it, before Tequila confirmed Van Zandt was in it. Rookie moved very carefully, using his flamethrower to burn the eggs and kill the facehuggers while moving extremely slowly. Ultimately, Rookie found Van Zandt and he and Tequila were horrified to realize that the Major was Hived. At this point, Van Zandt regained consciousness, and coughing, realized Rookie was there and called him over. Telling the Major that the rest of his squad was dead, Van Zandt revealed that there was a Xenomorph in him, and he ordered Rookie to shoot him so that he would not be killed by the chestburster. Rookie reluctantly complied and shot the Major, with the chestburster emerging shortly thereafter, which Rookie incinerated with his flamethrower as he and Tequila mourned the Major's death.

Killing the Matriarch and Escaping the Refinery[]

Rookie was then immediately attacked by some Xenomorphs, but he managed to kill them all. Tequila informed Rookie that she had sent an elevator down to him and that the fastest way out was through the Hive. After taking the elevator to the processing level, Tequila told Rookie to move slowly and that he was almost out of the Hive. Moving carefully and gunning down adult Xenomorphs and burning any eggs he encountered, Rookie made it to the loading station, where Tequila informed that he would be able to leave the Refinery there, while also warning him that the mining explosives were in there and he would have to watch his fire. As soon as he entered the loading station, Rookie saw a large ovipositor and dozens of eggs laid out, before a large Xenomorph emerged and hissed, it was the Matriarch, the Xenomorph Queen responsible for the infestation. The door shut behind Rookie, and Tequila informed Rookie that he would have to kill the Matriarch if he wanted to escape. Tequila noted that the Matriarch was camped over the furnace, as the heat was helping her with the eggs, and Tequila told Rookie to burn the eggs and the facehuggers, while she got the furnace online so he could burn her to death, as trying to shoot her with his weapons would not do anything. Rookie burned as many eggs and facehuggers as he could with his flamethrower, before Tequila informed him the furnace was ready and that the controls were directly in front of the Matriarch. Rookie pulled the lever and set the Matriarch on fire, with the flames killing any surviving facehuggers, but causing a swarm of Warriors to attack him, while also failing to kill the Matriarch. Tequila lamented the Matriarch's resilience as it would take a while to get the furnace ready. However the canisters of processed ore were now glowing due to the furnace's heat, and Tequila ordered Rookie to destroy them and burn the Matriarch. Rookie complied, destroying the Matriarch, destroying the remaining eggs, and setting much of the room on fire. Rookie fought off the Warriors, while Tequila scrambled to reset the furnace to burn the Matriarch and the entire Refinery down. Tequila finally told Rookie it was ready and to set the entire Refinery into a meltdown to finally kill the Matriarch. Rookie pulled the lever, and the flames burned down to the mining explosives below the blast furnace, and the detonation, along with the flames around her, finally killed the Matriarch in a massive explosion. The explosion also caused the Refinery to begin to collapse and Rookie bolted for the door that was repeatedly opening and closing, diving through at the last second before it firmly slammed shut.

Trek through the Jungle and Joining Forces with Katya[]

After getting his bearings, Rookie realized that he was in a jungle, with the automated announcement system stating that the Refinery West Exit was sealed and a lockdown was in place. Rookie moved into the outpost of Gateway Station and was startled by a skinned corpse dropping down in front of him, followed by a cloaked Predator dropping in front of him, then flashing its eyes at him to intimidate him before leaving. Unbeknownst to Rookie, this Predator, the last survivor of a pack of Youngbloods on the planet that had been slaughtered by the Xenomorphs, would begin to stalk him for much of the rest of his journey. Tequila then contacted Rookie and admitted she thought he was dead. She was in the Marlow's dropship, the Typhoon, since the colony was now overrun, but they could not find Rookie's location in the dense jungle. She ordered Rookie to find a transmitter tower to power up and they would find him that way. Rookie made his way to the top of the Outpost, to open the gate to the swamp. He encountered another Marine, armed with a sniper rifle, but the momentary distraction allowed a Runner, a Xenomorph born from an animal and having the ability to spit acid at its foes, to arrive and kill the Marine. Rookie killed the Runner, before taking the Marine's sniper rifle and opening the gate to the swamp. After killing a few more Runners, Rookie trekked through the swamp and the caves to get to the transmitter tower, killing any Xenos that got in his way. After powering up the tower, Tequila informed Rookie they had his signal, and the Typhoon soon arrived to pick Rookie up and escape the planet. However, the Youngblood Predator that Rookie had glimpsed earlier, had deemed Rookie worthy prey, and he opened fire on the Typhoon with his plasma caster. The Typhoon attempted to return fire, but the Predator's cloaking tech and the heavy treeline made the return fire ineffective, and a final plasma caster shot to the engine caused the Typhoon to lose power and crash in the ruins. Now stuck in the jungle on his own, Rookie flipped a switch that opened the gate to Gateway Station, where he was contacted by Katya, the former administrative android for Freya's Prospect, with a proposal. If Rookie sent her the data from the main building of the compound, she would help him find the other Marines. She instructed Rookie to use a power node and bring the power in the control building back. Killing the few Xenomorphs in the compound, Rookie took a power node and placed it into the control building's generator, restoring the building's power. Katya then had Rookie head upstairs and put the network back online. Rookie did as she asked, and after sending the data to Katya, a Xenomorph tried to attack him through the window. However, the Predator stalking him shot the Xenomorph to pieces with its plasma caster. Katya then established her connection, and she thanked Rookie as the administrator now had the files she needed, and she opened the gates out of Gateway Station. As Rookie exited the main building, the Predator arrived and opened fire on the Marine with his plasma caster, and Katya urged Rookie to flee Gateway Station. Rookie fled, as it was impossible for him to fight the cloaked Predator, and he escaped Gateway Station, with the gates closing behind him, and the electrified fence prevented the Predator from following him. Katya informed Rookie to be careful as she needed him still. She explained that the files Rookie had sent her concerned the actions of Karl Bishop Weyland, the CEO of Weyland Yutani, revealing that Weyland had always been conducting secret plans on the planet, and that Katya had only become aware of how big Weyland's plan had been only recently. Rookie made his way through the rest of the jungle, killing any Xenomorphs he encountered, but at the far side of the jungle, at the gate, he was attacked by a combat android. Katya noted that combat androids are illegal, and that Karl had a history of twisting the rules. Rookie opened the gate with his hacking device, and Katya warned him there were more androids in front of him, and that their weak points were their limbs due to the heavy armor on their torsos. Rookie slaughtered the androids, but he could proceed no further as the tunnel had collapsed due to an earthquake. Katya informed him to look for a way past the collapsed tunnel. Noticing an opening on the side of the tunnel, Rookie dropped down into a subterranean cave, and Katya congratulated Rookie as he had made it through the jungle.

Searching for Tequila in the Ruins[]

In the dark caves, Katya informed Rookie that the Typhoon had crashed beyond them. Making his way through the caves and killing any Xenomorphs he encountered, he overheard radio chatter revealing that Tequila had been captured and dragged away by the Xenomorphs. Horrified, Rookie hurried through the cave at Katya's insistence. As he reached a door at the end of the caves, Katya informed Rookie that it seemed that Weyland's scientists had been studying the ruins and there were likely combat androids present. After hacking through the door and killing a few Xenomorphs, Rookie entered the ruins and encountered several combat androids in a demolished Predator building. Slaughtering the androids, Katya informed Rookie the only way out was to climb, and Rookie did, meeting two Marines that had survived the crash and been fighting until night fell. Surprised to see him, one wondered how he got there, while the other welcomed him, citing the Xenomorphs, combat androids, and the Predator that was stalking them, officially welcoming him to the Colonial Marine Corps. With a horde of Xenomorphs incoming, they ordered Rookie to pick up a smartgun so they could fend off the Xenos. Rookie complied and picked up the weapon, gunning down dozens of Xenomorphs that attacked them, until they made it back to the crashed Typhoon. There they held out until help arrived. Once the Marine, Connor arrived, Rookie armed himself with a sniper rifle and shotgun, leaving the other two Marines to wait for other survivors, and headed out with Connor to find Tequila. Upon entering a massive ruin built like a maze, they witnessed the Predator stalking Rookie killing a Marine and taking the skull and spine of the Marine for a trophy, before it recloaked and vanished. As they made their way through the ruins, killing Xenomorphs all the way, Connor arrived and was grabbed by a Xenomorph and taken away into it. Informed by Katya that he was now alone again, she informed Rookie that Weyland's scientists had been studying the maze and had another door override, which she sent to his HUD, noting how useful it was in the maze. Rookie hacked through the door, this time without any Xenomorphs attacking him and made it to the next area, revealed to be a combat arena.

Fighting the Predator and Rescuing Tequila[]

At the combat arena, Katya noted that she could not establish at the site, as Weyland Yutani had prevented her from learning about it. She recommended Rookie search the cabin to see if there was anything that could help them find Tequila. Hearing Predator laughter again, along with several Predator noises, Rookie made his way to the cabin and pried open the door, but was attacked by the Youngblood Predator that had been stalking him. Barely grabbing the Predator's wrists to avoid being stabbed, the Predator threw Rookie into the combat arena, and then leaped into it himself, causing spikes to enter around the arena, before roaring with a flash of lighting striking across the sky. With assistance from Katya, Rookie avoided the Predator's plasma caster shots, then opened fire on the creature when it withdrew with his sniper rifle. After taking down its shielding, Rookie managed to injure the creature when it attempted to attack him with his wrist blades, before finally inflicting a lethal blow on the Predator. The Predator let one last final roar before falling to the ground dead. Katya expressed surprise that Rookie had managed to survive fighting the Predator. She revealed that the cabin door was still open and that some of the arena spikes had gone down when Rookie killed the Predator, and Katya suggested that there could be information that revealed where Tequila was. Rookie entered the cabin and allowed Katya to bring the cabin's network online. She then discovered a marine transponder belonging to Tequila, revealing that she was still alive, and Katya unlocked another door on the side of the cabin to allow Rookie to rescue her. Rookie entered into the new hive the Xenomorphs had created, with Katya noting that the Company must have been studying the area behind the walls. As Rookie moved forward, he killed the Warriors that were in the hive and eventually found Tequila, Hived to the wall, wondering how he had managed to find her, but he learned that she had been impregnated with a chestburster. Tequila ordered Rookie to shoot her in the head to spare her, but Katya told Rookie that if he could get Tequila to her, Katya could possibly remove the chestburster. Tequila agreed, and Rookie pulled out of the cocooning resin, with Tequila grabbing her rifle. Tequila revealed that after the crash, a whole horde of Xenomorphs attacked, led by a Praetorian, whose size she noted was much taller than the rest and could emit a deafening scream, she had never heard a Xenomorph scream that loudly. She then inquired about the rest of the Marines, and realized they were the only two Marines left, expressing surprise that the new Rookie had outlived all of the other veteran Marines, noting he must have chosen to be in the Corps. Katya urged the Marines to hurry, as she did not know how long Tequila until the chestburster hatched. Tequila complained about Katya urging them to hurry up, but briefly stopped as she felt the chestburster press, and asked Rookie to remind her not to be impregnated by any species again as she coughed and suffered stomach pain from the chestburster. Reentering the combat arena, Tequila and Rookie were attacked by two dozen Xenomorphs, as they struggled to get Tequila to the security door. Upon killing the last Xenomorphs, Tequila told Rookie she would get the door, as the last surviving Marine left in the chain of command, she would have the clearance to unlock the retinal scanner. She succeeded and the arena door opened the way to the Research Lab, which Katya urging the Marines, and Tequila ordering the two Marines forward.

Surgery on Tequila and Meeting Katya[]

Approaching the Research Labs, Tequila told Rookie to keep moving. Seeing the size of the labs, Tequila was stunned, noting to Rookie that it was no surprise the colonists were never aware of the labs, before deducing that the labs were where the outbreak began. Approaching a flight of stairs, a combat android ordered them to halt before Rookie and Tequila destroyed it. As they approached the door entering the labs, Tequila stopped to cough, clutching in pain, while Karl Bishop Weyland contacted them over the monitor, expressing surprise to see Colonial Marines near his labs. He wondered if the Predators on the planet were getting sloppy, or if the two Marines were just very lucky. He introduced himself and emphasized the Research Labs belonged to him, offering the Marines a chance to leave and they would not be pursued, at least not by any of Weyland Yutani's personnel. Tequila, disgusted with Weyland's attempt to claim innocence in the outbreak, was adamant that Weyland had to pay for all of the deaths on BG 386, as it was because of his actions on the planet. Katya agreed, but was adamant on treating Tequila. Tequila agreed, but if she was doomed, she was adamant on taking Weyland with her. Ordered by Katya to remain calm, as being under stress would only the chestburster worse, Tequila suffered another coughing fit as Katya urged Rookie to get Tequila to her as quickly as possible. When Tequila bypassed another optical scanner, she discovered movement on her motion tracker, and she and Rookie ran forward to find a lone Xenomorph attacking and killing a Weyland Yutani scientist, with Tequila noting Weyland's combat androids were having trouble keeping them contained. Rookie killed the Xeno with his sniper rifle, and he and Tequila took the elevator down to the monorail platform. Once there, they were attacked by the combat androids, who noted the Colonial Marine presence. Tequila and Rookie engaged the androids in a firefight, with a monorail train arriving with even more androids. A few escaped Xenomorphs also arrived late in the firefight, but Rookie and Tequila managed to eliminate all the androids and Xenomorphs. Taking another elevator, Katya once again reminded Rookie that Tequila had to reach her as quickly as possible. Rookie and Tequila kept moving, but encountered another combat android that took Tequila by surprise. Destroying it, Rookie and Tequila were contacted by Weyland over another monitor, who argued that the Marines interference were preventing his security teams from containing the Xenomorphs and that the Marines presence risked them escaping. Asking them to avoid an internecine struggle, Weyland urged the two Marines to leave the facility and find rescue, before warning them it was their final warning. Tequila noted that Weyland's boasting indicated he had a high opinion of himself as she overrode another optical scanner. As she was overcome by another fit, while resting against a glass window, Tequila was surprised by a couple of contained Xenomorphs, lunging at the reinforced glass. Noting they were well contained, they made their way to Administrator Katya's room. Katya urged Rookie so they could get Tequila into surgery. Putting Tequila onto the operating table, Rookie watched as Katya attempted to perform surgery on Tequila. Katya informed him that the emergency power in the labs meant she would divert power from Weyland's research site at the pyramid. Katya began the surgery hoping no one would notice, but Weyland appeared on the monitor, having noticed the drain immediately. Livid with Katya for already getting the Marines involved, Weyland immediately used the energy drain as an excuse to declare the surgery an attempt to compromise vital Weyland Yutani interests. As Katya pleaded for the surgery equipment to work, Weyland told Katya that she was a mistake, and that the surgery she was performing on Tequila would be shut down. Katya pleaded with Weyland to allow the surgery, but Weyland noted that Katya had been the one to send the distress call that had caused the Marines to deploy to BG 386, and that it was against Weyland Yutani's interests, and shut off the surgical equipment, declaring it an official reprimand, dooming Tequila to death out of petty spite. With it not being possible to remove the chestburster now, Rookie immediately took Tequila to the hypersleep chamber present, as it was her only hope, for the hypersleep would keep her alive until she could get proper medical attention. Rookie placed Tequila in the chamber and stroked her head, then shut the chamber, putting Tequila into hypersleep and saving her life. Rookie then went to talk to Katya who introduced herself, and that it was good to finally meet him. She encouraged him not be alarmed, at her obvious damage, and to insist on calling her an android, as she disliked the term artificial person. She acknowledged Weyland Yutani, but she was on Rookie's side, not the Company's. With the Marlow and all the dropships destroyed, the only way left off planet for the three to escape was an executive data pad in Weyland's possession. It pocessed an emergency transmitter, and once triggered, Weyland's personal rescue dropship would arrive immediately. Katya would prep Tequila for travel from the planet while Rookie would go the pyramid and retrieve Weyland's data pad, telling him to say goodbye to Weyland for her.

Fighting through the Research Labs and Killing the Praetorian[]

Katya sent Rookie an objective marker for the pyramid, but the Predator Dark had cut the facility's security systems, and the chain reaction caused the power to go out across the facility and allowing the captured Xenomorphs to escape. Katya informed Rookie of this, and he rapidly found himself in a three way fight between himself, the Xenomorphs, and the combat androids. Killing anything that attacked him, Rookie made his way through the labs, being contacted by Weyland, who informed the private that even if he thought he was on a crusade, he was only cannon fodder and completely expendable, and that once he realized this, it would be better for everyone. Entering the central chamber, he discovered the elevator to the pyramid needed to be activated from the control room, Rookie headed into the Research Lab's upper levels, eventually finding the control room destroying the combat androids who tried to stop him on the way. However, upon activating the elevator, Weyland locked Rookie out of the central chamber, forcing Katya to find another way back to the elevator. Taking the long way around outside the labs, Rookie made it back to the elevator, only for a Praetorian, a mini Queen to emerge from above the central chamber and crash down, letting out a deafening scream summoning other Warriors to assist it. The Praetorian's arrival caused the elevator to enter lockdown mode again, forcing Rookie to kill the giant Xenomorph to proceed. With its speed and strength, Rookie was forced to run, fighting off the Warriors it summoned and avoiding the large pools of acid it spit, before using the pulse rifle grenades to knock it down, before shooting it several times with his shotgun. After a grueling battle, Rookie finally killed the Praetorian, and the other Warriors, suffering neural shock, retreated immediately. The death of the Praetorian also caused the lockdown mode to lift, and Rookie descended on the elevator into the pyramid.

Battle with Weyland and Escaping the Planet[]

As he descended into the pyramid, Katya contacted Rookie, alerting him of the amount of radio signals in the area and they were aware of his presence. Reaching the end of the elevator shaft, Rookie saw the large innards of the Predator pyramid and was briefly taken aback. Weyland welcomed Rookie to the Pyramid and asked if he now understood the importance of Weyland Yutani's research on the planet along with the sheer awe that humans would have if they could see the Predator pyramid. Weyland noted that the Predator pyramid indicated that things in the universe were bigger than a single human, and yet still Rookie sought to stop him. Activating a robot sentry, and grabbing a nearby smartgun, Rookie gunned down a horde of Xenomorphs that attacked him, but the gate to the inner pyramid opened and two Praetorians emerged from the inner pyramid. Arriving at the bridge, their screams summoned several more Warriors before charging across themselves and attacking Rookie. Using the last of his smartgun ammo, Rookie slaughtered the two Praetorians, causing the last Xenomorphs to flee. Weyland comments that whetehr it is down to luck or skill, Rookie appears to have both to a large degree. He therefore agrees that Rookie is a driven individual, something Weyland can respect, and grants him a seat at the table, along with him wanting to have Rookie learn why so many of his comrades died. Entering the inner pyramid, and later the sacrificial chamber, Rookie encountered Weyland and held him at gunpoint, where Weyland said he was happy to finally meet him. He had been watching his progress and knew he would make it into the inner pyramid, stating he was a survivor like the Predators who had once dominated the planet, like the Xenomorphs they hunted and like himself. At that point, a combat android equipped with Predator cloaking technology decloaked and held Rookie at gunpoint and Weyland took Rookie's pistol. Weyland asked Rookie if he wondered where the Marines got their weapons and claimed he and the Corps were friends, Weyland then claimed he owned the Corps, and by extension, he owned Rookie, and that when a corporate asset was no longer needed, he got rid of it, before ordering his androids to execute Rookie. However, Dark was fighting the Abomination and the fight was unsettling the pyramid, distracting Weyland and the androids, and allowing Rookie to retrieve his weapon and get to cover. Weyland bade Rookie goodbye, before declaring to all combat androids that Rookie was now their primary target and ordering his death. Rookie annihalated the androids who attacked him in the sacrificial chamber, before entering the burial chamber of the Predator lord where Weyland made his last stand. Rookie and Weyland engaged in a gun battle armed with shotguns, before Rookie persevered, discovering that Karl Bishop Weyland was not a human, but an android. Katya contacted Rookie with the comn being scrambled urging him to get the data pad. Rookie retrieved the data pad, but was attacked by a revived Weyland. Falling down the stairs near the entry to a pool of lava, Rookie and Weyland drew their pistols and prepared to fire, with Katya ordering him to aim for the head to make sure Weyland was dead. Rookie hit Weyland, destroying his central processor, causing him to plummet into the lava and ending the evil CEO. Katya then warned Rookie that the pyramid was collapsing and he had to run. Rookie proceeded to race through the pyramid as it collapsed around him, almost not making it back to the elevator. Summoning Weyland's dropship, he reunited with Katya and Tequila, revealing he had the datapad in his hand as he smiled at Katya. Aboard Weyland's dropship, he and Katya entered hypersleep alongside Tequila, escaping BG 386 and departing for places unknown.

Personality[]

Rookie was an extremely skillful Marine, capable of handling many weapons with ease despite BG 386 being his first combat drop. He was also highly skilled with technology as he was a combat technician and carried a hacking device. Despite rarely speaking, Rookie cared deeply for his fellow Marines, despite the fact that he was frequently underestimated by the other Marines because he was new to the Corps. He also mourned having to mercy kill Van Zandt after it became obvious he couldn't save him, and he was horrified when Corporal Tequila was condemned to death by Weyland out of petty spite, stroking her head in a moment of sympathy before he put her into hypersleep. He was also highly vengeful, as he had a livid glare when he confronted Weyland at the pyramid, although given that Weyland was responsible for the outbreak on the planet, and had just condemned Tequila to death, this was understandable. Rookie was also known for being very silent, not speaking at all, and the only vocalizations he made being made when he was injured.

Trivia[]

  • Rookie is the first African American to be the main protagonist in an Alien vs Predator video game. This also makes him the second black protagonist in an Alien vs Predator media, the first being Alexa Woods in the film Alien vs Predator, as well as the third main protagonist in the Predator franchise, after Mike Harrigan in Predator 2.
  • Out of all the protagonists of the game, Rookie has the most involvement with the story. Rookie's campaign has the most levels, having six, while the Alien and Predator campaigns have five, the audio diaries (the collectible item for the Marine campaign) reveal the vast majority of the backstory for the game, and also have the most story relevant events that are directly witnessed in the game, and also having the most bosses, with the Marine campaign having four bosses, while the Predator campaign has two bosses, and the Alien campaign only has one.
  • It is implied in the audio logs, and by the affectionate way Rookie strokes Tequila's head before he puts her in hypersleep, that Rookie and Tequila either had feelings for each other or were in a romantic relationship prior to the events on BG 386.
  • Rookie also has the least characterization of the three protagonists, despite being human, on account of never speaking, and having the least amount of cutscenes in the game that show his reaction to certain events, whereas Dark and Specimen Six, despite having shorter campaigns, actually have fleshed out personalities and are given more reactions to the various events they witness.
  • Rookie is the only of the protagonists who's level design is unique, as his trek through the ruins happens at night, while Dark and Specimen Six have both of their journeys through the ruins occur during daytime. While all three do visit the labs, all of their levels occur during the night.
  • Rookie getting knocked out during the initial landing drop on BG 386 resembles Lieutenant Gorman being knocked out in Aliens, as both are hit in the head by a loose crate during a dramatic ride. This was likely a mythology gag to the film.
