Marc Anciel is a major character from Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug and Cat Noir. In season 4, he receives the Rooster Miraculous from Ladybug, which, when inhabited by the kwami Orikko, can transform him into Rooster Bold, a rooster-themed superhero.

He was voiced by Kyle McCarley for Seasons 2-3 and later currently Alejandro Saab for Season 4 onward in the English version.

Appearance[]

Physical appearance[]

Marc is a tall and slender teenage boy with messy Rock style black hair with blues reflections, vivid green eyes with visible lashes, thick eyebrows, pink lips, and a slender face with a pointed chin. His appearance is somewhat feminine.

Civilian attire[]

Marc wears a V-neck rainbow tie-dye shirt with a rippled colored pattern originating from the center. He also wears a bright red jacket with hood and white drawstrings. He has a pair of black leather fingerless gloves, a black leather collar around his neck. He wears moderate azure jeans with the bottoms rolled up and a pair of black boots with faint "oil slick" rainbow blotches.

He has a belt with a square silver buckle and square-nails chains hanging from it around his thighs. On his hands, his nails are painted black.

As Rooster Bold[]

Rooster Bold wears a midnight black (with a slight blue-ish tint) skin-tight outfit which is covered by a fire red tail coat with a midnight black and multiple long feather-like tails going down from around his waist. The coat has golden accents and darker feather-shaped sections out the middle. He has a short red necktie and his golden boots resemble rooster legs, with spurs included. He wears little over-hanging plain red mask covering his eyes. His hair is black, shaved with three big red strands that resemble a rooster's comb.

Personality[]

Like Juleka, Marc is very shy and nervous around others. This is shown when Marinette pulls Marc into the art room to introduce him to everyone. He is also quite shy in front of his first friend at the school, Marinette, refusing to show her his stories. He likes to write stories (particularly about Ladybug and Nathaniel) but is sheepish and self-conscious when people read them. When he runs away in embarrassment out of the art room, he runs into a pillar and drops his notebook and Marinette picks it up and reads it. When she hands the notebook back to him later on, Marc immediately turns red. Like Marinette, he is sweet and kind but also quite clumsy, especially when around someone he has feelings for.

As Rooster Bold, he gets the confidence he needs to show off his abilities and use them to better help his team.

As Reverser, he is demanding and clever, realizing that Ladybug's graceful agility made her difficult to strike. He endangered civilians in order to make Ladybug an easy target when she went to help the affected cyclist. He is also confident, leaning on a bit overconfident. After he struck Ladybug and Cat Noir with his airplanes, he sees the heroes as harmless and believed he had time to obtain his revenge on Nathaniel and Marinette before dealing with them. He is also cruel, reversing anyone even those who haven't done anything to him, like with making the art club hate art and music, and making André Bourgeois send the dumpsters that were in space back to Paris. He does sympathize those who are mistreated, like with what happened between him and Nathaniel, as he saw how Chloé treated Sabrina like a slave so he struck both of them to make Chloé tend to Sabrina instead.

Powers and abilities[]

As a civilian[]

Marc is an excellent creative story writer. His Ladybug stories, based on Nathaniel's drawings, impress Marinette (the real Ladybug) so much that she pushes him to work with Nathaniel to make the Ladybug/Mighty Illustrator comic. Since the two of them complete the comic, it is implied that Marc's writing skills are strong enough for him to write well in script style as well as in short story style.

As Rooster Bold[]

Rooster Bold has enhanced abilities such as speed, strength, durability and agility. His power, Sublimation, allows to choose any other super ability. When Rooster Bold says the ability, he gains that power.

Rooster Bold can charge the tip of the Fountain Pen with magical gold-orange energy, then writes out the intended power on the palm of his hand. Rooster Bold can touch his hand to hid chest with the hand he wrote on, causing a ripple of gold-orange energy to spread across his torso. Rooster Bold will then gain the intended ability.

The ability Rooster Bold is capable of giving himself can be an actual special superpower, like super strength, invisibility, flight, and even the ability to travel across the multiverse.

The power could also be an incredibly specific atypical physical capability, such as the ability to knit a very comfy pair of socks.

The power Rooster Bold chooses can only be used once. However, as seen in "Pretension", if Rooster Bold chooses a power that functions continuously, such as an enhanced sense of smell, then the ability can technically be used multiple times. Additionally, Rooster Bold can bestow a condition on the power that makes it possible to use it multiple times, as seen in "Penalteam" when Rooster Bold gave himself the power to always score a goal anytime he kicked a soccer ball.

Notably, as seen in "Strikeback", "Pretension" and "Conformation", if the power Rooster Bold gives himself involves bestowing a new property onto something, then the power itself will manifest as a gold-orange glow on their hands, which he can bestow on the target by touching it, at which point the glow will vanish.

Notably, as seen in "Illusion", "Deflagration", "Pretension", "Conformation" and "Miraculous Paris", if Rooster Bold also has the superpower of the Mouse Miraculous, Multitude, then only one of them will need to activate Sublimation and all of the clones will have the chosen power granted to them as well. However, it is currently unknown if any of the clones can achieve this, or if it has to be done by the original specifically.

Additionally, if Rooster Bold exists as multiple separate (but still one and the same) beings, then one can give themselves the power with Sublimation and it can be used by the other being, as seen when Matagi Gozen gave herself the power of enhanced sense of smell and the power was used by her Inuma steed.

Weaknesses[]

It's revealed in "Destruction" that Sublimation does have some (at least three) limitations:

  • Since each kwami embodies a unique concept, Sublimation cannot give Rooster Bold a superpower that already belongs to another kwami. For example, it cannot allow him to travel through time, as that is the essence of Fluff's power; it also can't be used to purify akumas, as that is part of Tikki's power.
  • Another weakness is that the superpower can only come in the form of an ability, it cannot take the form of a wish. For example, it cannot allow Rooster Bold to know the location of people/objects.
  • Finally, Sublimation cannot bestow Rooster a superpower that interferes with another kwami's magic, such as how the Miraculouses conceal the secret identities of the Miraculous holders with Quantum masking, so Sublimation would not be able to reveal their identities. Sublimation also cannot heal damage caused by the Cataclysm or revive someone who has fallen into eternal slumber from using a damaged Miraculous.

There are some other instances in which Sublimation was unable to solve certain problems. Although, it is possible that Sublimation actually could have done something, but these problems were simply seen as a selfish use of the power, and the heroes believe that the Miraculouses should not be used for the wrong reasons:

  • Since Wang Fu never got his memories back, Sublimation apparently cannot restore the memories of a guardian whose memories of the Miraculouses were erased after passing on their Miracle Box.
  • Master Fu was unable to join the fight against Hawk Moth because of his old age and bad back. Sublimation was apparently unable to do anything about this.
  • As seen in "Pretension", the power Rooster Bold grants himself through Sublimation is not automatically infallible, and his opponent could outwit the chosen power; Matagi Gozen gave herself the power of enhanced smell to locate Argos via the scent from a feather from his Hand Fan, but Argos broke the fan into pieces and spread them, and by extension his scent, throughout the city so Matagi Gozen couldn't pick up his actual trail.
  • Resistance can cancel out the effects if Sublimation is used for attacking.
  • In addition to the limitations of the power itself, the super ability granted through the use of Sublimation might have weaknesses of its own. In "Deflagration", Monarch used Sublimation to give himself the power to turn invisible, but he got splattered with various condiments, making so being invisible was of no use.

Resistance can cancel out the effects if Sublimation is used for attacking.

Despite Sublimation cannot copy the powers of other kwamis, it can give Rooster Bold a power that is similar to them, as long it doesn't share their core. These powers can even appear to be an improved version of the Miraculous powers.

  • An example is how Rooster Bold was able to multiply objects, despite Multiplication being the power of the Mouse Miraculous, as he didn't multiply himself but an object and the copies he created weren't smaller than the original.
  • Another example is how if Rooster Bold can be able to become invisible, despite the Fox Miraculous allows the user to create an illusion of something being invisible, and if someone touched them, they wouldn't become visible again, unlike the Fox Miraculous' illusions, Rooster Bold would be physically invisible.
  • Another example is how how if Rooster Bold was able to locate anyone through an object belonging to them, despite the Dog Miraculous allows Miss Hound into locating everything the ball touches, as if Rooster Bold locates a person, not an object, but from the person's scent.
  • Another example is how how if Rooster Bold can able to fly, despite the Dragon Miraculous Superpower allows Ryuko to turn into wind and fly away, as the flying Rooster Bold's body weren't turned into wind, and if someone try to tie them, they won't be able to escape, unlike Wind Dragon.
  • Another example is how if Rooster Bold can able to create a portal for traveling to other universes, despite the Horse Miraculous allowing Pegasus to teleport through portals, as Rooster Bold didn't teleport to another location in his universe, but to alternate universes in the multiverse.
