Roxanne "Roxy" Wolf is a major character in the Steel Wool era of the Five Nights at Freddy's franchise.
She serves as one of the three secondary antagonists (alongside Glamrock Chica and Montgomery Gator) of Five Nights at Freddy's: Security Breach and the deuteragonist of its DLC, Ruin.
She is an animatronic wolf (based on the version of Foxy the Pirate) at Freddy Fazbear's Mega PizzaPlex who has deep insecurities which she hides with an egotistical facade. She was formerly hacked and ordered to kill a boy named Gregory, resulting in her being greatly damaged. However, she manages to redeem herself to save another girl, Cassie, from the Mimic.
She is voiced by Marta Svetek, who also voiced Gregory in the same game and later went to voice Mystic Hippo in Help Wanted 2.
Appearance[]
Roxy's full appearance in Help Wanted 2.
Roxanne is an animatronic wolf with grey/purple skin and long grey hair. She has bright yellow eyes, purple lipstick and fingernails while her toenails are purple. She wears a red crop top with black stars that exposes her stomach, earring, bracelets on her wrist and neck, a spiked belt, and red hot pants. She also wears some red shoulder pads, with the right pad having half of a star on it. Like the other three Glamrock animatronics, Roxy’s casing becomes dirtier and cracked as the night progresses with the exception of her hair and tail.
After being shattered from being hit with Gregory's cart, she will have both of her eyes missing (due to Gregory taking them while she is stunned) with black wires poking out of them, her hair becomes messy, and her chest is mostly damaged with its inner sides showing, while her tail is severely damaged with the endoskeleton tail exposed. She also has scars on her left leg, both of her arms, her left pad slightly popped out, her ears being also damaged, and half of her left arm exposing her endoskeleton arm.
Personality[]
Despite showing more animalistic traits than the other animatronics, Roxanne Wolf has a more complex and deeper personality than any of them, and aside from Freddy, is the one that seems closest to true sapience. She is shown to be a very arrogant, prideful, self-centered, vain, and narcissistic animatronic with a large superiority complex as shown when complementing herself in front of a mirror, and in some of her dialogue. She strictly believes that she is “the best” to the point she obsessively repeats it to herself and even uses these boasts to assure and calm herself down. She is rude towards others, including her friends. As shown in Help Wanted 2, Roxy berates the protagonist for not doing a good job on her makeup and even wants them to look at her all the time while doing so, which shows how egotistical she is.
However, despite this, she expresses low self-esteem issues (Due to her AI being advanced enough to have human-level intelligence), as at one point she can be seen calling herself a failure and that she greatly cares about her appearance to the point she starts to cry over it heavily, which could be the reason she's projecting her insecurities onto others. Her pride causes her to hide her vulnerabilities, as when she is crying in her room, she angrily tells her bandmates, most notably Freddy himself, to get out of her room to not show this side.
After being hacked into following Glitchtrap's orders, however, she became a flat-out cruel, violent, relentless, and outright sadistic bully to the point she is willing to harm and essentially kill an innocent child, as shown when she taunts and emotionally abuses Gregory in cruel ways by telling him that he has no friends and that no one would care or miss him while hunting him down. While hunting Gregory, she assumes a more bestial nature, crouching as walks and sniffs the air in an attempt to get his scent. When she is given karma by the boy after being disfigured by the race car, she loses her composure and becomes even more violent as she sobs in blindness and anguish over her appearance being destroyed, while trying to pounce on Gregory in a berserk rage. This gets even worse by the events of the Ruin DLC, where Roxanne is still shown being heavily insecure and hostile, berating herself for not catching Gregory before vengefully pursuing him after supposedly hearing his voice.
However, despite all these negative qualities, Roxanne isn't incapable of showing remorse, as when she catches Cassie and hears her pleas to let her go, Roxanne, realizing her mistake, immediately drops the girl and apologizes to her for what she has done. This also takes into account that according to Freddy himself, she would never harm a child or any guest of her own volition as she and the other animatronics were forbidden by their programming to not do such harmful acts. Additionally, she tells the HW2 protagonist in her minigame while shattered to use the Roxy-Talky to calm her down if she gets in a mood as she warns them she might lose it and attack them if angered, and even spares them if they give her good enough makeup, showing she has some honor and being aware of her flaws.
As shown through her interactions with Cassie, Roxanne acts similar to an older and supportive sister, as she recognizes Cassie from a birthday party thrown for her in the past and fondly reminisces about the event, even remembering what day it was and her favorite cake. When it's implied that barely, if any at all, people showed up to the event, she expressed sympathy and encouragement to her. Later on, Roxanne protects Cassie from the Mimic when it reveals itself to her and buys her some time before it gives chase. She is also heard searching for the young girl after Gregory sabotages the elevator she was in so the Mimic wouldn't find him, showing that despite all of her flaws, Roxanne is capable of kindness and genuinely cares for the well-being of children.
Biography[]
Secret of the Mimic[]
Roxanne Wolf's origins date back to roughly 1979. As a character, Roxy was designed by Murray's Costume Manor CEO Edwin Murray, who at the time, was William Afton's business partner. Two variations were made.
Puppet Roxy was one of the Puppet Crew, doll-like rod puppets with built-in voice boxes. This version of Roxy was a pirate who had two eyepatches.
Deadeye Roxy was the character dressed as a cowgirl, used as the mascot of a western-themed carnival shooting gallery found in the warehouse of Murray's Costume Manor. As far as is known, this version was just a carboard cutout used as a prop.
Afton would eventually double-cross Murray, stealing his technology, designs, and employees for use in his own facilities, including the design for Roxy.
Origins[]
Roxanne Wolf was an animatronic created as one of the four mascots of Freddy Fazbear's Mega Pizzaplex, with her serving as the mascot for Roxy's Raceway. Like the others, she was built in a workshop called the Playpen where, when still an endoskeleton, was given training on how to interact with humans, with an experimental AI that encouraged development of a unique personality. Eventually, a female, snarky, altruistic persona took hold, and a casing resembling a "punk" version of the earlier design was applied, thus beginning the life of Roxanne Wolf.
At one point, she celebrated a little girls birthday named Cassie and likely tried to comforted (alongside Gregory) that her friends will come next time when none come.
Following this hacking, she became self-centered and egotistical, and would start to acting mean for the sake of being mean and started verbally attacking everyone around her, while cruelly telling them bad things towards them just for her own amusement. Essentially, she started to attack dozens of S.T.A.F.F. bot to the point they became so brain dead from the employees that they had to take them far was in the West Arcade upstairs and keeps on blocking the race track in her race way while under construction, causing the place to be close for a long time.
Escape the Pizzaplex[]
Sometime after Cassie's birthday party, she and Gregory start sneaking into the Pizzaplex at night to play games of hide and seek, with one of the animatronics programmed to be the seeker. On the third night, Gregory alters Roxy's programming to use her as such. At first Roxy's, new programming causes her to playfully troll Cassie, but gradually, her intentions become lethal. This is complicated further by the Reagent, a S.T.A.F.F. Bot that is also programmed to kill Cassie. Eventually, Cassie manages to undo Gregory's programming, and Roxy destroys the Reagent and helps her escape. Oddly, the story ends with Cassie believing this was simply part of the game. [1]
Security Breach[]
One night, Gregory ended up trapped in the Pizzaplex just as it was about to close, while Vanny ordered Roxanne and her fellow Glamrocks to chase Gregory around the Pizzaplex and kill him, Glamrock Freddy was left untouched and tried to help Gregory to escape the building.
In the Roxy's Raceway section, Gregory planned to decommission Roxanne by confronting her in her titular raceway, by obtaining a head from the Head Deposit and attaching it to the driver assist bot. Gregory drove the car through the race track, but Roxy took it as her moment to pounce down to ambush him, only to land right in front of the kart. Gregory instinctively leapt out, but the car flew right into Roxy's face, leaving her severely damaged. Taking the opportunity, Gregory took the stunned Roxy's eyes and left, but she broke free and began to chase Gregory in a blind rage while crying from her face being disfigured.
During her boss battle, the player must lead Roxanne across the boarded-up doors within the management rooms in the raceway. Every time Roxanne nears Gregory, she will attempt to leap towards him in order to kill him, but by dodging her before she pounces she can break through the boarded doors. After reaching a room burning, Roxy will attempt to corner Gregory, but by breaking into the vent he can escape from Roxy.
Upon returning to Parts and Service, Gregory upgraded Glamrock Freddy by replacing his eyes with Roxy's. He was ecstatic to see with Roxy's eyes, but Gregory wondered about Roxy's vision out loud. Feeling horrified toward his friend, Glamrock Freddy asked if Roxy was alright and Gregory tried to change the subject to placate him.
After this, Roxy can still be encountered around the Pizzaplex, and can be avoided through the traditional means or by keeping quiet, however due to her lack of eyes, she can no longer be stunned by the camera or blaster.
Ruin[]
After an earthquake demolished the PizzaPlex, Roxy was damaged even more, and apparently tried to hide/fix her face with a mask. When the Mimic impersonates Gregory and lures a girl named Cassie to the PizzaPlex to free it, Roxy mistakes her for Gregory - who has long since escaped the PizzaPlex - and tries to kill her either on her own or M.X.E.S.'s commands. However, upon realizing her mistake, Roxy lets her go, apologizes and shuts down due to an error.
Later, the Mimic/"Gregory" states that Cassie must deactivate Roxy as she's the last security node left. She can be found pinned underneath a forklift, trying to get out. After hearing the girls voice, she happily greets the girl, much to Cassie surprise to see the wolf still remembers her after so long, as Roxy reminisces of her being there for Cassie's party when the PizzaPlex was still opened before the girl deactivates her while apologizing, thus returning back to her original friendly programming.
At the end of the game, the Mimic reveals itself to Cassie and plans to kill her. However, Roxy arrives at the last second, attacking the Mimic and ordering Cassie to run. The endoskeleton eventually defeats her and starts chasing after the girl. In the Elevator Ending, where the real Gregory betrays Cassie as to not risk the Mimic escaping the PizzaPlex, Roxy's voice can be heard in the end credits, implying she and the girl survived. It's unknown what happened to Roxy in the Scooper Ending which is labelled the "best ending" as the Mimic is destroyed but she and Cassie remain trapped underground.
Five Nights at Freddy's: Help Wanted 2[]
Roxy returns in Help Wanted 2 in two minigames, both being in the "Backstage" section. In these minigames, the player is a makeup artist trying to make Roxy look better. Similar to the S.T.A.F.F. Bot minigame, the player must use multiple different shades of all use makeup and accessories. However, unlike the S.T.A.F.F. Bot minigame, there is an added obstacle, Roxanne herself. She will get angry if the player doesn't look at her and will eventually kill them. The player must do this three times before the minigame ends. In the next minigame, Roxy is in a more destroyed version of her Shattered form, and the player must try and make her look better. However, unlike the first minigame, Roxy can be calmed down if she gets too angry by using the Roxy-Talky, which has prerecorded voicelines of Roxanne complimenting herself. The minigame ends with Roxy unsatisfied and the player must give her the mask from Ruin.
Trivia[]
- She's the seventh animatronic in the games to have hair in her design (after Balloon Boy and his counterparts, Circus Baby and Ballora) and the very first one to not be a humanoid.
- Additionally, judging from the movement of her mane and how it gets ruined after she gets damaged, she's possibly the very first animatronic in the series to have her hair made out of fur rather than metal or plastic.
- It's very likely that her name being shortened to Roxy is a nod to Foxy the Pirate, the original animatronic she's apparently the counterpart and replacement of.
- Additionally, the Ruin DLC features various picture of Glamrock Foxy underneath Roxy's Raceway. Implying, she was the replacement for Glamrock Foxy, just like Monty was for Bonnie.
- Monty's Gator Golf area features a cardboard figure of her angrily smashing her golf club against the ground. implying she's bad at the game.
- For some reason, some of the security offices in the game has a framed picture of Roxanne on a desk. This could mean Roxanne has adult fans in-universe who find her attractive.
- Roxy is the only animatronic in the game that is still able to speak after being damaged.
- Roxy is one of Glamrock animatronic who has completely different design during Ruin DLC events.
- Additionally, in Five Nights at Freddy's Help Wanted 2. It was given explanation about how she got her new endoskeleton cover face, considering Help Wanted 2 take place at some point before Ruin DLC.
- Roxy has the second-most voice-lines and character development out of all the glamrock animatronics, beaten only by Glamrock Freddy.
- She is also the second animatronic in the series to willingly help the player character with no ulterior motives and the second Glamrock animatronic to become a hero (albeit until the very end of Ruin), after Freddy in the base game.
- She is the third Glamrock animatronic to be rebooted back to their original programming, with the first two being Glamrock Freddy and the Daycare Attendant.
- When Cassie uses her security mask, Roxanne Wolf appears to have a green face and green aura in the AR world compared to Monty and Chica.
- She is the only animatronic in the game that interacts with Freddy, telling him to leave her alone in one scene if he enters her dressing room.
- She is Cassie's favorite animatronic, having had a birthday party at Roxy's Raceway in the past. In the Ruin DLC, Roxy remembers Cassie and is the only animatronic who helps her after rebooting back to her friendly programming.
- Many fans falsely assumed Roxanne was specifically made to replace Foxy at the Pizzaplex. However, Secret of the Mimic reveals Roxy existed since the 1970s as a character created by Edwin Murray. She was originally Foxy's friend and a pirate like him, showing she's not a replacement but someone that was originally meant to co-exist with him.
