Template:Infobox character Major Roy McBride is the central and main protagonist of the film Ad Astra. He ventures out to space to rescue his father after the latter vanished in his search for alien life.
His voice actor is William Bradley Pitt.
Synopsis
Roy McBride makes his first appearance scaling the International Space Antenna, but it suffers a power surge. Roy abandons ship to escape and uses his parachute, but it gets ruptured by the debris that followed Roy, nearly causing him to collapse. However, he survives his ordeal and proposes a mission to contact his father, whose project, The Lima Project, was designed to search for alien life and may be responsible for the surge.
Roy later teams up with his father's old friend Pruitt. Colonel Pruitt explains that his old friend was angry that Pruitt himself wanted to return to Earth, even calling the Colonel a traitor. The duo later head to a rocket with escort, but they are attacked by Pirates. The pirates succeed in their attempt to remove the escort, but Roy and Pruitt manage to make their way to the rocket anyway.
Once there, Roy and Pruitt are forced to split up due to a condition Pruitt is suffering. Roy goes on the mission alone. Soon, he and Captain Lawrence Tanner find an abandoned station. They investigate, but Captain Lawrence Tanner is attacked by a baboon. He tries to retaliate, only to be mauled. The baboon is later seen gruesomely feeding on his meal. Roy retaliates and kills the baboon by trapping him inside the room. Believing that Captain Lawrence Tanner can still be saved after his ordeal, Roy tapes shut the break in the captain's helmet. However, the captain is revealed to be already dead, so they have to abandon him in space.
Roy and the gang make it to Mars, where he displays the signal. There, he meets Helen Lantos, who reveals that she was born on Mars and her parents were part of the Lima Project. Roy sends a signal as a hope that his father would still be alive, but there is no reply.
Roy realizes that his father had shut off communications. Roy boards a ship and accidentally murders the crew (and sadly reveals this). Roy goes to Neptune and plants a nuclear warhead on the Lima Project's station's core. There, Roy and his father reunite. They initially go to escape, but Clifford pleads that his son untethers him. Roy reluctantly does so and passes through Neptune's rings with a shield (his capsule was too damaged to stay docked) by using his thrusters and escapes by using the station's self-destruction and returns with more self-esteem.
