Ruby Hoshino, formerly known as Sarina Tendouji in her past life, is the deuteragonist of the 2020 manga series Oshi no Ko and its 2023 anime adaptation.
In her past life, she was a 12-year-old child suffering from cancer that had an obsession with idols, especially to Ai Hoshino with her doctor Gorou who was reborn as her older twin brother Aquamarine Hoshino. She was motivated to take the same path to become an idol and work for Strawberry Productions like her afterlife mother after her death.
She is voiced by Tomoyo Takayanagi in her pre-incarnation in Japanese and Savanna Menzel in English and by Yurie Igoma as a child in her reincarnation in Japanese and Alyssa Marek in English.
Appearance[]
As Sarina, she was a young girl with large blue pupils with a shaved head and wears a grey wool beanie decorated with hearts around along with a bunny pin. Ruby was born as a girl with blond hair and red ruby eyes like her name suggest, with her left eye having the same six star shaped like her mother.
As a high school student she has long hair tied in 2 pigtails arriving at her shoulders and wears a blue school uniform with a pink bowtie above her chest along with a grey skirt, pair of high knee socks and brown shoes just like Kana.
Personality[]
In her past life, despite suffering from cancer she was still shown to have an energetic personality while displaying her passion for idols and teasing Gorou. Her passion for Ai was so great she listened to all recordings from her and even memorized them very precisely.
However in reality she was still depressed and saddened because of her illness that causes her unable to control her body as she wishes for most time of her life giving her a disability to not being to walk properly on her own and having to stay in bed all day. However, she made her attempt many time on walking on her own despite her fear of falling which helped her to be reborn as Ruby.
Upon being born, she was still shown the same personality with slighter more energy than her past self, possibly due to no longer suffering any disease in her new body. In addition she also has an extroverted and exciting nature being the opposite of her brother. After their mother’s death, Ruby didn’t have the intention sharing Aqua’s thoughts about the disgruntled fan that killed their mother and rather forgetting the event to start her dream of becoming an idol like Gorou suggest her to have in her past life.
Past Life[]
She appears in Gorou’s flashback with him as his patient in the hospital which she was suffering from anaplastic astrocytoma. Because of her parents were too busy to look by her side, Gorou was her doctor as well as her caretaker which he became close to her.
During their time Sarina introduced him to her favourite group, B-Komachi and its group’s leader Ai Hoshino. Gorou would become a fan of the group as well and even attend their concert from which he got a keychain from, at a vending machine which he then gave it to her. She then mentions that she has the wish of being reborn as an idol’s child and take care of himself, but Gorou suggest her to become a celebrity once she gets send out of the hospital before and revealing that she had feelings for Gorou and passing away from her disease some time as the doctor watched.

- Ruby, along with Kana Arima and Mem-Cho, all make a cameo appearance in the 276th chapter of Kaguya-Sama: Love is War in a future that is set several years after the events of Shuiichin Academy.
