Rudeus Greyrat is the main protagonist of the isekai, fantasy, adventure light novel, manga and anime series Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation.
In his past life, Rudeus was a 34-year-old overweight Japanese NEET, who was reincarnated into a fantasy world after being hit by a truck while saving some childrens. Following his death, he soon opens his eyes and finds himself in the arm of his new parents, Paul Greyrat and Zenith Greyrat realizing he is reborned in new world where fantasy and magic exists. As he starts his new life, he tries to live this new start at his fullest without ever commit his past life mistakes again.
He was voiced by Tomokazu Sugita in Japanese in his pre-incarnation and by Yumi Uchiyama in his reincarnation. He was voiced by Ben Phillips in English in his pre-incarnation and by Madeleine Morris in his reincarnation.
Appearance[]
His pre-reincarnation, he was an overweight Japanese man who wore a pair of glasses with a little bit of beard around his mouth.
Following his new life, he was reborned as a boy with brown hair and green eyes. He also has a mole underneath his left eye, just like his new father. The colour of one of his eyes changes after being granted a demon eye by Kishirika Kishirisu, making it more of a yellow colour.
Personality[]
Having been formerly an arrogant man previously resulted Rudeus to become cautious to not get carried away and begin to display his old personality again. Therefore, after reincarnation, he is very self-aware and respectful towards most people. It also leads him to often overestimate his opponents. When it becomes clear to him that he confronts someone above his league, Rudeus tries his best to avoid use verbal negotiation to avoid further trouble.
However, a trait he retained from his past life was his perversion. For example he enjoyed peeking at Roxy Migurdia m--turbing and even asked his cousin if he could touch her chest. While Eris is sleeping, he touched Eris' breasts (which is AA cup size) as well trying to take off her panties.
At the beginning of the series, he was stressed that strangers would starts treat him like he was bullied in his past life, not wanting them to look at him.

Background[]
Before reincarnating, Rudeus had a lived a very tragic dark lifestyle. Due to being a victim of numerous harassment at in his high school years, he was forced to stop attending school to live as a hermit. His family however, specifically his parents would try to convince him to go back to school and would always refuse. One classmate whom had a good relationship with him was still there to support him and would even go to his house to bring him homework each day. Unfortunately, their relationship would end when he refused he denied when he also tries to convince to go back to school.
While staying at home, his window would be closed and having his room in complete darkness while having his eyes locked in the screen. During the day as soon he opens the window, a massive group of student from his school would start yelling various slur at his room. At some time, he was even tied on the front gate of his school entrance, with having his clothes removed, his classmates taking pictures and calling him with the same specific nickname repeatedly.
As time goes by, he continues spending his time in his room alone alone on his computer. The depressing life finally ends when both of his parents ending up passing away and refused attend their funeral, having the rest of his family to disown and kicked him out of the house making him homeless.
He was now walking homeless in the street being broke and thinking about the life style that he just had lived, until he tumbled upon a speeding truck that was about to run into a group of high school students, he decides to sacrifice his life by pushing one of the student out of the way, killing the past life Rudeus. He soon opens his eyes, finding himself in the hands of his new mother as a newborn, realizing that he was reincarnated at the hand of a new family.
Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation[]
As he grew up, he developed a great interest in reading books and eventually finds himself in learning magic on his own, which also impressed his parents and hired a tutor, Roxy Migurdia to teach him. About a year later after living alongside the family while teaching Rudeus magic, she takes her leave as Rudeus passes her exam. Afterwards, at some point in his childhood, he befriended with Sylphiette, an elf, after saving her from some childrens bullying her. He also believed he is a male due to her boyish appearance. He would not find out about her true gender until when he attempted to take a bath with her, causing the girl to runaway. Rudeus' father would later sent him to Asura Kingdom, the home of his cousin's in order to teach his cousin, Eris Greyrat.
A mana calamity would then occur and be unleashed on Fittoa Region and Asura Kingdom, causing all of the residents in the area to be teleported into random locations across the planet. Rudeus and Eris would be sent to the Demon Continent where they met a superd, Ruijerd Superdia, who rescued them and forms a party called Dead End with them to help them get back to home on their journey.

- Immense Magic Prowess : While Rudeus isn't the kind of person that likes fighting and violence, he is a skilled magic user, being able to cast magic in both of his hands. He is also a quick learner. Thanks to scientific knowledge from his past life, he could create some extremely deadly spells, according to Badigadi a spell that he created known as "Stone Cannon" is at a very high power level. As a child, he often used water magic, which was the first type of magic that he learned on his own.

However as he grew up, he mainly started using earth magic, which is the magic he used to create his Stone Cannon spell. Perugius Dola, Badigadi, Kishirika and Orsted have all stated that his magic is even more powerful than that of the Demon God, Laplace.

- Voiceless Incantation: Among the extremely small number of individuals to possess such ability, Rudeus is also one of the best magic user who does not need to chant to use the spell to use it and average mages need around five seconds to use a simple spell, for high-level magic it takes average mages a minutes, but for Rudeus, it only need a couple seconds.
- Multilingualism: At only the age of 9, Rudeus was already able to speak Magic God, Beast God, Fighting God and Human God languages, while he was teaching Eris and Ghislaine Dedoldia at the same time. He was also planning to learning Heaven God and Sea God language, however due to not being able to find any learning sources for it, except that he found book of the sea race sometime later in the series.
Demon Eyes[]
- Foresight Eye: The first eye to be given by the demon, Kishirika, the former empress of the Demon Continent, after helping her facing against a man. The eye initially gave Rudeus some corrupted and blurry visions to Rudeus, causing him to feel a bit of pain. As Kishirika takes her leave by climbing the wall, Rudeus' Foresight Eye already gives him afterimages of her movements as she climbs. The eye would later come in hand to him when engaging in a training against Eris where he was able to foresee his cousin's incoming afterimages, showing him possible movements that she could use to attack him, in order allowing him to look a few second into the future. The closer an enemy is, the more effective the eye becomes and the farther an enemy is located the less afterimages Rudeus can see.
The effect of the eye generally depends on how much mana the user infuse into his eye, resulting in giving a greater potential to predict movements. Naturally, the eye has also its limits against opponents that are far faster than how far or fast the eye can predict. The best example would be Orsted whom has mastered a large variety of martials arts, much more advanced speed, and most crucially the genes of the dragon god flowing inside him, giving him far greater physical prowess that are simply too much for Rudeus to handle.

Fighting Styles[]
- Saint Dragon Battle Aura: A fighting style that does not involve much the utility of magic. Rudeus has noticed the similarity that the fighting style has used techniques that are blended from a real life martial art, Wushu and the world's magic techniques. Orsted, who has mastered several field in martial art has taught Rudeus the Saint Dragon Battle Aura.

- Arrogant Water Dragon King/Aqua Heartia: A wand given by Eris to Rudeus on his tenth birthday, it was eventually passed on to his daughter, Lara Greyrat.
The wand is made out of rough wood from a type of tree called an Elder Torrent. The wand is black and is a few centimetres taller than Rudeus. It has a blue sphere in its center, surrounded by a incomplete metal circle that has an opening. On top of the sphere is some sort of a black pyramid (with three lines on two sides) that is connected to the wand. The wand is very important to Rudeus as stated by Ruijerd. Despite Rudeus's power having grown too powerful for the wand, he will still use it during important battles. The main spell that Rudeus likes to use is Shotgun Cannon.

- Mana Absorbing Stone: The Manatite Hydra produces a stone, tested by Rudeus, exhibits a distinct appearance all over its surface. When mana is applied to the stone's back, it emits a high-pitched sound, triggering a magic-canceling wave akin to Ran Ma from its front.
- Dragon Tribe's Robe: Once belonged to a great sage by the name of Titiana from 10 centuries ago, it is a unique grey-colored robe made of thread infused with magic along with the epidermis ofthe Death Adder Rat.

- Rudeus's real name in his previous life was never revealed in the entire series, even when Rudeus from the future mentioned it, it was muted.
- All of his limbs have names. His right leg is called Tindalos and left one is Baskerville. His right arm is Hulk and left one is named Hercules.
- A fan club is made for his sister, Norn. He was however exiled by its members after being caught taking a bath with her.
