~ Rundas about the mission |
Rundas is one of the main supporting characters who made an appearance in Metroid Prime 3: Corruption. He is an ice-wielding freelance bounty hunter who grew up on Phrygis, a moon of the planet Bes III. Much like Ghor and Gandrayda, Rundas suffers from Phazon Corruption that Dark Samus subjects them to in an ambush.
He was voiced by Christopher Sabat.
Biography[]
Rundas was born and raised on Phrygis, a frozen moon which orbits Bes III where ice mining is most prominent. The Phrygisians are generally known for generating and manipulating ice, but Rundas is the only one of the few known for using his as a bounty hunter.
Rundas first appears waiting in the G.F.S. Olympus alongside Ghor and Gandrayda when Samus first walks in to meet with them. FADM Dane tells them that the Space Pirates have uploaded a virus that is affecting the Galactic Federation Networks after the assault on the G.F.S. Valhalla when a training session was taking place and the Aurora Unit 313 has been stolen by the Space Pirates. He issues orders for them to upload the vaccine into the network to purge it of the viruses and get them back to normal and tells them to investigate what the Space Pirates are doing. However, the Space Pirates chose the opportunity to attack the Federation Seventh Fleet and the planet Norion. Rundas is ordered to help protect the planet from the Space Pirates when they attacked the G.F.S. Olympus.
Sometime later, Rundas joins the bounty hunters in a mission on Norion where they must defend the planet and the Galactic Federation from an incoming Leviathan Seed that carried Phazon that threatened Norion with this fate. Rundas, Gandrayda, Samus, and Ghor make it to the central tower where they would use a planetary defense cannon to kill the Leviathan before it makes contact with Norion. However, Dark Samus appears and quickly ambushed the hunters with a Phazon blast, which caused Rundas, Ghor, and Gandrayda to pass out instantly, while Samus held out long enough to activate the cannon to successfully destroy the Leviathan Seed before she succumbed to unconsciousness.
Rundas, Gandrayda, and Ghor awoke two weeks long, infected with Phazon, before Samus did and they were equipped with PEDs to help them in their investigations of the Leviathans that crashed there and stop them from corrupting the planet as well as their inhabitants there, and they are sent out to Bryyo, the Pirate Homeworld, and Elysia respectively. While at Bryyo, Rundas would eventually be overcome with a Phazon-induced illness from overusing the PED equipment, and the Federation soon loses contact with him as with the other hunters. Samus travels there to find out what became of him and saw traces of ice infected with Phazon, which leaves the assumption that the worst has happened. She is confronted by several Space Pirates that have her pushed to the corner, before Rundas managed to save her on time, similar to what he did previously. When Samus approaches Rundas, he suddenly lashes out violently at her and freezes their only exit from the room, which leaves Samus with no alternative, but to fight against him.
When the battle comes to an end, Rundas is gravely wounded with Samus being victorious, but before any of them had any time to react, Rundas is impaled by his own ice formations, killing him instantly, making him the first of the hunters to die. A silhouette of Dark Samus appears to retrieve the Phazon that resided inside Rundas's body, which then disintegrates. The ice formations break and Samus is granted the Ice Missile upgrade which helped in finishing what Rundas started, obliterating the Bryyo Leviathan Seed, saving the planet. Samus would eventually fight the other bounty hunters that suffered a similar fate on the other planets and reach the planet Phaaze where she would destroy Dark Samus, the corrupted Aurora Unit 313, leading to Phaaze's destruction, which in turn, avenges the deaths of Rundas and the other bounty hunters. In the aftermath, Samus would head to Elysia where she would mourn the deaths of her fallen friends and to get her thoughts sorted out before setting out on her next adventure.
