Ruth is a tritagonist of The Ancient Magus' Bride manga/anime series. He was once an ordinary dog and was a former familiar and church grim of Isabelle. He used to be called Ulysse during his time with her until her passing. He is now a familiar of Chise Hatori where he is renamed as Ruth. He can shapeshift into a large black dog and can drag a building-sized chimera dragon.
He voiced by Kōki Uchiyama in the Japanese version and Austin Tindle in the English version.
Appearance[]
He is a black dog with red eyes, resembles an Irish Wolfdog.
When he is in human form, he wear black and white clothes.
History[]
He was originally a church guard dog who chased away grave robbers and evil spirits. He was formally called Ulysse and used to be owned by Isabelle until her passing. Ruth thought she was just sleeping and wait for her in her grave for centuries.
In the present, while still waiting for Isabelle to come back, he saved Chise from the graveyard monster.
Power and Abilities[]
He thinks of himself as a human, thus able to maintain human form, until he remembers who he is.
He shares a mental link with Chise and considers her a sister. His form can change much like Elias, sometimes moving in Chise's shadow.
