Ryo Hazuki (芭月涼) is the main protagonist of the Shenmue video game series by Sega. He is a 18-year old Japanese teenager who lives in Yokosuka, Japan. His mother died of an illness when he was only three years old. His father, Iwao Hazuki was murdered by Lan Di, a leader of a criminal organization called the Chi You Men and the dragon mirror was stolen on his 18th birthday. Ryo swears to avenge his father's death and will take any risk to do so, even if it involves himself getting into trouble.
Training in the Hazuki Style of Jujutsu when he was very young enabled Ryo to grow very strong, both physically and mentally. Although he harbors a strong love and devotion to the martial arts, he has not expressed much interest in succeeding his father as master of the Hazuki Dojo. He is well behaved and knows how to handle himself in a fight. Consequently, he's well known in the neighborhood of Yokosuka. Rather stubborn and competitive to a fault, he tends to act impulsively rather than think through a situation logically. A good example of this is the fact that despite knowing how Nozomi Harasaki feels about him, he hides his feelings and acts indifferently towards her.
His primary love interest is Nozomi Harasaki. She is in love with Ryo and confesses; however Ryo is too shy to confess because of an incident during his childhood where he was made fun of for liking a girl and he does not want them involved in his problems caused by his reckless actions when searching for clues about Lan Di.
Ryo is willing to help others when they are in trouble and do the right thing.
