SCP-2040, also known as The Iron Messenger, is a character in the SCP Foundation Mythos. It is an advanced alien robot originating from a place known as the "Restricted Zone" which is being destroyed by the laws of physics. SCP-2040 was sent by the inhabitants of the Zone to find help in preventing the laws of physics from destroying them, and in its journey it presumably encountered many alien civilizations before being detained by the Foundation.
SCP-2040 was an entry in the SCP-2000 contest which won 11th place.
Biography[]
SCP-2040 was presumably one of the many Messengers created by the inhabitants of the mysterious place somewhere in space only known as the "Restricted Zone". Because this place was slowly being destroyed by the laws of physics which the alien inhabitants deemed unnatural, SCP-2040 was sent to travel through space in search of beings who would be willing to help in preventing the Zone's destruction. SCP-2040 would travel through different planets and encounter many lifeforms, such as the Addisonhers which didn't understand the Messenger, but was unable to find anyone who could help it and its creators.
SCP-2040 eventually made its way to Earth where it was captured by the SCP Foundation. The Foundation was able to contain it by lying that a response was being formulated to its message. The personnel would attempt to gain more information about its background and exact mission, but found it somewhat difficult due to SCP-2040 being mostly unwilling to talk about other subjects other than its message, but when it spoke about other subjects it told them about its adventures on other planets which didn't really answer the Foundation's question. When it was Researcher Kinoshita's turn to interview, SCP-2040 at first refused to talk about other things not relating to its message, but after telling about its encounter with the Addisonhers it explained to the researcher that time passed differently in the Restricted Zone and although it could wait for some time it had to eventually leave and return home.
Appearance[]
Despite being made of advanced technology, SCP-2040's design is extremely simplistic and inferior to Earth's technology, being a humanoid robot composed of iron, glass, and plastic.
Powers and Abilities[]
SCP-2040 being a robot with an AI it possesses capabilities found in most advanced robots. It possesses a power source that according to it is fueled with nuclear power and has shown no sign of running out, but how this works is unknown due to SCP-2040 being unwilling to divulge any information about it. SCP-2040 also claims to possess an "Ion Ray" weapon to attack enemies and the ability to "Light Jump" between planets, but thus far has refused to display any of these properties. SCP-2040 appears capable of receiving or releasing wireless transmissions as the Foundation had locked it inside a chamber that blocked transmissions. It's capable of talking in different languages, including some alien ones, but mostly uses English when talking to Foundation personnel.
Personality[]
SCP-2040's personality appears to have been programmed by its creators, but from time to time would display its own special characteristics. SCP-2040 is determined in traveling the universe to find anyone willing to help its creators in preventing the destruction of their home from the laws of physics which they saw as unnatural. Everytime someone attempted to it about another subject unrelated to its plea SCP-2040 would most of the time refuse to talk or display its other capabilities it claims to have, stating that it would be against its programming, but if questioned about its journey it would become distracted and tell them its stories and encounters with different alien creatures. When SCP-2040 is constantly told that a response is being formulated to its message, it would patiently wait for days and seemingly years, but if a response is accidentally given to it than it is possible that it would result in SCP-2040 leaving Earth. The Foundation has used this tactic to keep it under containment and took special care in not giving it a response.
