~ Jim Yearden to Dr. J. Breiner. |
SCP-2639-A, each named Gloria Stanfeld ([GRRGRL]), Jim Yearden ([WTF_STFU]), and Thomas Warden ([BOOGER]), are tritagonists in the SCP Foundation series. They are three teenagers who have been trapped inside a computer after playing the Quake video game for an extended amount of time which caused their game avatars to manifest in the real world and fight each other while accidentally destroying their surroundings and killing numerous people. After learning of the damage they’d caused they became depressed and refused to play any further until they were convinced by the Foundation to assist them in fighting anomalies which threaten humanity, becoming known as Mobile Task Force Omega-9, codenamed "The Scrubs".
Appearances[]
Their original appearance as living humans is unknown. Their video game avatars resembled humanoids equipped with anomalous weaponry and armor.
Personalities[]
Gloria Stanfield[]
Gloria is shown to greatly enjoy playing Quake with her two friends and appeared to be more knowledgeable on the game when compared to Jim and Thomas as she was in charge of generating new maps for them to play, and was even considered by Thomas and Jim as their leader. She was well-mannered as shown during her interaction with Dr. Breiner and was ready to listen to him. After learning that they had been trapped inside her computer and had been causing damage to the environments they played and killing innocent people just for fun, she blamed herself for trapping her friends as it was her computer and mods that caused all of this. When Breiner began imploring them to save him and his fellow personnel from a hostile SCP, Gloria was the first to respond and after being joined by Thomas and Jim, she decided to make amends by fighting the monster and helping the Foundation in fighting similar threats, despite the organization refusing to let them meet their families.
Thomas Warden[]
Thomas also enjoyed playing with his friends and was respectful towards others as shown with his interactions with his friends and Breiner. He also appeared to be the calmest of the trio as when they discovered that they had been trapped inside Gloria's computer, he tried to calm the others down and assuring they would find a way out of this, and even after learning that they had killed countless innocent people, Thomas attempted to comfort his friends, especially Jim who took it hard. Wanting to make amends for what they’ve done, he agreed to help the Foundation in fighting hostile non-human threats. He also feared that if Gloria's computer were to eventually break down, he would lose complete contact with the Foundation and his friends and be left forever alone in the dark.
Jim Yearden[]
Jim like the other two loved playing Quake with Gloria and Thomas, but was shown to be the most aggressive of the group as very often used rude language while bragging on his player skills. When Breiner first entered their chat, Jim tried to have him kicked out as he had been invested in the game, but after learning he and his friends had been trapped for more than a decade, he completely freaked out, but when he learned that they had caused mass damage and massacre during their matches, he felt deep guilt and outright refused to talk to anyone. Following the fight with a monster which had breached containment and threatened the lives of Breiner and his colleagues, he agreed to assist the Foundation in their mission of protecting humanity from similar threats but outright refused to fight any human regardless if they presented a threat of not.
History[]
Background[]
Gloria Stanfeld, Jim Yearden, and Thomas Warden were three teenagers born around 1981-1982 who became friends and would often play video games together. Around June 18th of 1997, Gloria created a mod for her copy of the video game Quake and invited her two friends to play together. However, while playing the game non-stop, their bodies disappeared while their disembodied consciousness became connected to Gloria's computer in which they played. This also caused their video game avatars to manifest in the real world and thinking they were just playing a game they would shoot at innocent people who got caught in their gunfight. They persisted doing this for over a decade, never noticing the fact that all they could see was the game chat and their avatars' point of view, and killing countless people and causing mass property damage. One such incident caused by them happened around a small church in Siena, Tuscany in Italy on August 18th of 2009 where the local police became involved, leading to an altercation which culminated in the collapse of the church and 96 casualties with 54 fatalities.
SCP Foundation[]
The SCP Foundation soon came to notice the teenagers' avatars causing damage to various parts of the world and set out to contain them, cataloguing them as SCP-2639-A and their "power-ups" as SCP-2639-B and originally classifying them as Keter while covering-up the incidents caused. During their investigation, the Foundation came across Gloria's computer in 2010 and transported it to a secured site where Dr. J. Breiner attempted to contact the three teenagers. As Breiner began talking to them via the game chat he politely asked where they were, but the teenagers discovered that they could only see the screen and nothing else, freaking them out. Breiner attempted to calm them down and asked to not play any more matches for now under the pretext that it could complicate their search for their bodies. Later, deciding to meet them in person through their avatars Breiner instructed Gloria, Jim and Thomas to start a new match but to not attack anything. However, after manifesting Thomas became bored and started to shoot at people as he saw them as zombies, Breiner told him to stop and that he had sent a team to retrieve them. This caused all three of them to realize that they had been killing innocent people all this time.
Gloria, Jim, and Thomas became stricken with guilt and soon fell into depression over the horrible acts they had committed. Breiner attempted to sympathize with them and raise their morale but all his words fell on deaf ears as all three of them refused to talk at all with anyone. One day, a hostile SCP had breached containment in the same site in which the computer was located and as it began killing every personnel Breiner and two of his surviving colleagues were able to make their way to the computer and lock themselves inside the room in order to keep the monster from reaching them. Breiner began imploring the three teenagers to manifest themselves inside the site and fight the monster as it was breaking down the door, and after some consideration the trio decided to intervene. They arrived at the site and fought off the SCP, allowing Breiner and his colleagues to escape and recontain the monster. In the aftermath, Breiner came to check on them and congratulated their actions when dealing with the monster. Seeing what they've achieved Gloria, Jim and Thomas offered to further assist the Foundation in their mission at protecting humanity from the dangerous anomalies threatening it, as a way to atone for the destruction and deaths they had caused. Breiner brought this offer to the O5 Council who decided to accept it and turned them into the new Mobile Task Force Omega-9, codenamed "The Scrubs".
One of their first missions was combat an apex-tier pluripotent entity originally designated SCP-3797. On June 13th of 2015, SCP-3797 awoke and began using its reality-warping powers to cause a CK-Class Restructuring Scenario. Omega-9 alongside MTF Omega-12 attempted to terminate 3797 but to no avail as it was able to use its powers to evade its demise. Thankfully, the Temporal Anomalies Department from the future was able to construct a powerful weapon which retroactively destroyed SCP-3797 as it was unable to foresee this, saving the world while the monster's description was archived.
Possible Endings[]
SCP-6776[]
After Site-19 was taken over by a hiveminded plant anomaly designated SCP-6776-A, on 545th attempt to reclaim the site O5-3 sent Omega-9 to fight off the plants. However, after ten minutes in exploration they saw several of the contained anomalies approaching them and soon felt peaceful and happy as a result of 6776-A, leading to them disconnecting from the computer without properly explaining the reason why.
Project Isorropía[]
Following the success of the cross-testing of anomalies at Site-100, SCP-2639 was cross-tested with SCP-076, a superhuman violent humanoid who can generate swords and resurrect himself. 2639-A began endlessly battling the barbarian, both continually dying before reviving. Despite neither side winning, all of them greatly enjoyed the battle.
Powers and Abilities[]
After their minds became connected to Gloria's desktop computer, designated SCP-2639-C, while playing a modified version of the video game Quake they achieved the power to manifest themselves in the real word in form of their game avatars, designated SCP-2639-A, and interact with their environment and people just like a game match, since they could only see their surroundings in video game graphics and the people and animals as game monsters. When starting a new match a 1 kilometer cubic volume would manifest in a random place on Earth in which their avatars and "power-ups", designated SCP-2639-B, would generate, but with the Foundation's help they were able to manifest the zone to a desired location. When an instance of SCP-2639-A died they could reform themselves within the zone and when touching an SCP-2639-B instance, which only they could touch as they were intangible to normal people, they would be granted a boost to one of their character stats or gain new weapons, but one particular instance known as "Ammo Pack" which served to reload weaponry could only manifest when one SCP-2639-A instance or human died within the zone.
