SCP-8000: I tried, Mr. Paul. Believe me, but you're stubborn. You've been unreceptive to everything I've tried to show you.

Lague: I understood it. I understood it all; I'm just an asshole who can't look in the fucking mirror. I'm a fuck up. What does knowing that mean in the end? I am who I am. I'll never be satisfied, and that's the way it is.

SCP-8000: That way of thinking has only led you to where we are now.

Lague: I can't fucking fix this alone.

SCP-8000: You can fix this by yourself. You need to reflect upon yourself; see what I see. You have success, but you need to appreciate it.

Lague: How? How the fuck can I fix this with everything you've seen?

SCP-8000: I saw a kid who didn't believe in himself become a man who couldn't cope with the thought that no one else would believe in him. Despite all of this, look at you now.
~ SCP-8000 convincing Paul Lague to improve himself.

SCP-8000, also known as The Seal of Approval, is supporting character in the SCP Foundation series. He is supernatural creature taking the appearance of a serpentine seal who appeared to Foundation Director Paul Lague, making him reflect on his life and improve himself for the better.

It was originally an entry for the SCP-8000 contest which won 1st place, earning the post of SCP-8000.

Biography[]

The exact origin of SCP-8000 is a complete mystery. According to himself he was a nameless being who build a large interdimensional library based on the Library of Alexandria which the Wanderer's Library copied after, but most of his claims appeared to be just jokes. He also appeared to be an acquaintance of SCP-6597-1, Scordoh the god of scrimshaw. Around late Mars of 2024, during which SCP Foundation Site-322 Director Paul Lague had the site's scientists build the Seeker machine to use to discover a new important to bring him recognition, SCP-8000 foresaw that if Lague kept increasing the machine's capacity it would cause to explode, destroying the entire site and kill everyone in it.

SCP-8000 entered a site's meeting room where he awaited Lague to arrive. Lague soon entered the room, being too busy with his work to immediately notice the serpentine seal. Upon noticing him, Lague was taken aback, becoming confused at the presence of a talking seal with a long tail. SCP-8000 explained that today there would only the two of them, having removed the both of them from normal reality in order for the two to talk uninterrupted. The seal asked Lague to be honest with each other, before giving him a documentation he wrote for himself as a form of introduction, though the designation of SCP-8000 would be given to him by Lague after their discussion ended.

SCP-8000 asked Lague to spend his entire day with him, opening a tear in reality which led to a library. Though Lague was cautious about the entity that had appeared to him out of nowhere, he relented and accepted SCP-8000's invitation. He stepped through the portal to see the massive library which SCP-8000 claimed was Lague's. SCP-8000 explained that this library contained all of Lague's memories, including the deepest ones which he wished to forget. Demonstrating how the library exactly worked, the seal got one of the books and dropped it on Lague, allowing him to relive the moment he nearly drowned in a public pool which forced him to remove his shorts, embarrassing himself in front of his crush. Once that was over, SCP-8000 told Lague the reason why he brought him here, to look through his past failures, much to the director's dismay.

Starting with their journey, SCP-8000 gathered several books from library shelves, and soon began going through each of them. The duo arrived to the time Lague was a six or seven year old child, back when he wished to pursue a career in the comic book industry. As they looked through Lague's comic books, his younger self barged in crying, deeming his self-made comic books not good enough. He was soon followed by his mother who attempted to support him, but the child Lague abandoned his dream in comic books and instead wished to become a marine biologist. Lague elaborated on why he had abandoned his childhood dream, his father would always diminish his skills and those of others which discouraged him from pursuing a job in comic books. SCP-8000 tried to argue that his standards were as high as he set them out to be, but Lague denied that being true.

They then looked at the time Lague was sixteen years old when he took a test to enter the Ivy League, and although he got a high score was unable to be accepted which further deteriorated his self-esteem. SCP-8000 noted that Lague had changed his major multiple times during college before settling in biology. Lague justified himself that he was unable to understand those fields and thought that he had been lucky to finish his studies just in time. SCP-8000 argued back that Lague was smart and just didn't believe in himself, prompting Lague to reveal that he originally simply wanted to be a capable worker before desiring to leave a mark.

Lague, wanting to analyze SCP-8000, asked him to know his name to which the seal responded that he didn't have one and allowed the director to name him. Lague gave several suggestions such as Bill and Frankie, but SCP-8000 rejected them all, deeming them too ridiculous and inappropriate for him. This irritated Lague as he wanted to identify SCP-8000 with something, the seal ascertained that the director was obsessed with perfection and if he wasn't satisfied with his work he would give up on it. They then went through Lague's memory of failing at a basketball match which made him abandon sport altogether. SCP-8000 told Lague despite downplaying those events they discussed they greatly affected him and shouldn't let embarrassment get the better of him. This angered Lague, calling SCP-8000 a hypocrite for fearing to be judged by his name, and the two of them were actually the same. Seeing Lague admitting of his personal issues, SCP-8000 told him that his name had always been Wallace.

Next the two of them went through Lague's employment at the Foundation. They discussed how Lague managed to get a job at the Foundation and rise through the ranks with the help of some of his friends that were also employed such as directors Moose and McInnis. SCP-8000 noted that Lague had been quite young for his previous positions, but the director told him that at the time he was still unsatisfied. They went through the memory of Lague arguing with Anthony Croix over Randall House becoming a director before him despite being younger. SCP-8000 asked Lague if he despised House, but he denied it, telling the seal that he truly considered House his friend and mentor but had just been jealous at the time, and looking back at it now he came to regret his behavior. They then went through the memory of Lague being dissatisfied with working with SCP-5595, while the latter began behaving like him. Lague elaborated that despite being promoted to a director later on, he wasn't happy with the position as it felt like a consolidation price, and his only wish was to be recognized. SCP-8000 argued back by saying that Lague had truly earned the position and he was recognized by his peers, but his problem was that he wished to reach higher and higher until there was nothing for him to reach anymore.

Eventually, they reached the darkened end of the library where Lague's future memories resided. There, SCP-8000 hit Lague with the vision of a annihilated Site-322, explaining to the director that the Seeker Machine exploded due to Lague putting in impossible parameters. Realizing what his actions had led him, Lague implored SCP-8000 to intervene and stop this catastrophe. SCP-8000 told him that only Lague could avert this future, and in order to stop this from happening he needed to trust himself. Lague, seeing that his dissatisfaction with himself and disregard for others would cost him not only his life but all of his hard work and friends he had made in the Foundation, came to terms with himself and vowed to not forsake himself and be happy with what he had in the moment. This caused the library to change and expand, making space for his future memories as his death was no averted.

With the future changed, SCP-8000 brought Lague back to his site where he apologized to his friends and fellow employees. Before decommissioning the Seeker Machine, Lague used it one last time, this time making sure to be safe for use. This led to the Foundation discovering SCP-8000 flying through the sky, and recognizing him Lague classified the seal as Safe and not to be captured.

Appearance[]

SCP-8000 appeared as large serpentine harbor seal with an elongated tail 150 meters long.

Personality[]

At first SCP-8000 appeared as an ambiguous and enigmatic being who appeared to Dir. Lague out of nowhere, though was prone to cracking a few jokes. Lague distrusted SCP-8000 since the creature was unwilling to be direct with him and was barely convinced to follow him to his library. As they went through Lague's memories, SCP-8000 revealed more of his personality, showing that he was genuinely a caring being who wished to help not only the director understand his problem but also avert the disaster that was abound to happen. During their conversation, SCP-8000 expressed that he didn't consider take a name as it would probably cause the people to misjudge him based on his name, but after he was called out by Lague for fearing the others' image of him when he himself suffered from a similar problem which the seal was trying to help with, SCP-8000 decided to take the name of Wallace just to calm him down. Once Lague was hit with the truth about himself and what he had done, SCP-8000 forced him to stop wallowing in his self doubt, instead increase his self-confidence and improve himself as a person in order to make amend for his past mistakes and fix his relationships with his fellow employees.

Powers and Abilities[]

SCP-8000 was shown to be capable of levitating on his own and fly through the sky. According to himself, SCP-8000 could phase through solid objects and see future events. He displayed the latter capability when he foresaw that Lague's recklessness would led to the destruction of his site and attempted to intervene, and insinuated that could even travel through time. SCP-8000 was shown to be able to open a portal by tearing the fabric of reality, a feat that was difficult for him to do, which led to a interdimensional library which he had created to record all of Lague's memories, both past and future. SCP-8000 could also transport Lague directly into the past memories, making the director relieve those exact moments.
