Kawakami extends her coldness to Ryuji due to his juvenile behavior and tells the protagonist to not interact with him since many in the school view him as a delinquent with rumors spread about him but she does not hold a grudge against him. In fact, she is actually saddened by Ryuji's change of personality after his incident with Kamoshida. Like everyone else, she is aware and afraid of Suguru Kamoshida and his crimes but did not told a soul due to how powerful Kamoshida is as a person and Principal Kobayakawa forbids anyone on speaking about it. After Kamoshida's defeat, she realizes that were more to Kamoshida's character than how the crimes and rumors presented him, which allowed her to unlock her compassionate side, where she would listen to students more often and be willing to help them with anything that they need. Kawakami was even the first person within the school to apologize of not revealing Kamoshida's crimes, feeling that she did not do her best as a teacher.

Takase's guardians later found out and blamed Kawakami for his suicide but threaten to sue her unless she pays them money as a form of an "apology." They place so much pressure on to her to the point Kawakami became a maid out of desperation to pay them back.
