Template:InfoboxSadness is the deuteragonist of the Pixar film Inside Out. She is one of the five emotions inside the mind of Riley Andersen. She is voiced by Phyllis Smith. Hence her name, she is always sad and miserable.

Role in the film

Sadness is one of Riley's emotions that are introduced when Riley cried as a baby. Whenever she touches a memory orb, it turns blue. Sadness is eventually seen with her friend Joy about collecting memory orbs into the internal core. When all the internal core orbs have been scattered, Sadness and Joy go after them and end up go into Long Term Memory.

While trying to find the important orbs for the internal memory core, Sadness and Joy were distracted by an imaginary friend named Bing Bong. He guides Sadness and Joy across Imagination Land and trying to return to the headquarters with his rocket, but are unable to reach it. Suddenly, Sadness and Joy ended up in the Memory Dump when trying to return to the HQ.

Joy later asks Sadness to return, but Sadness ends up convincing her that Riley doesn't need her; the two finally made it to the headquarters when Riley is leaving San Francisco by going across the tubes leading to the location. Sadness was able to save Riley by placing the memory orbs back into the Internal Core, which made Riley very sad in missing her parents. By the end of the film, Sadness and Joy became the best friends when Riley is adapting for a new life.
