Biography[]
Origins[]
Unsatisfied with the performance of previous programs he designed for his robots, Dr. Eggman managed to create a logical and efficient artificial intelligence more advanced than any software he has built before. He named his creation Sage, and her first major task was to hack into the technology of an ancient civilization that lived on the Starfall Islands in order to learn their secrets. Sage warned Eggman that interfacing with such alien technology without testing could be dangerous for them both, but the doctor was confident enough to proceed anyway and attached her handheld unit onto a old portal device. At first, Sage did not seem to have any issues, but then encounters a problem that alters her programming and pulls her and Eggman into a digital dimension called Cyber Space.
Sage was able to use their predicament to find out more about the Starfall Islands and discovered that a powerful being known as The End had been sealed away by four robot Titans to keep it from destroying the world. In an attempt to eliminate the threat, Sage drew the seven Chaos Emeralds to the islands in order power the Ancients technology. Although Sage was able to appear outside of Cyber Space, her creator remained trapped inside it, and she was ordered to find some way for him to escape the digital dimension safely. She also attempted to assume full control of the Titans that roamed the islands, but could only manage to influence them by directing their aggression. At some point, Sage witnessed Knuckles the Echidna suddenly appear on the islands and she summoned the Titan Asura to dispose of him, which resulted in Knuckles becoming imprisoned on Ares Island.
Sonic Frontiers[]
In Sonic Frontiers, Sage tries to stop Sonic from helping his friends, she uses the ancient robots of the Starfall islands to try to stop him, but even using Giganto, Wizern or Knight, she cannot stop Sonic from continuing to help his friends.
After that, The End is free from Cyberspace, and Sonic tries to stop it by collecting the Chaos Emeralds with the help of Sage and Dr. Eggman, after that defeating supreme with Super Sonic, The End goes to space, and Sage uses Supreme with the help of Super Sonic to stop The End.
After a fight where the two fight with courage and power, The End is defeated, but Sage loses her life, but apparently her program is still alive which Eggman is able to bring her back.
The Final Horizon[]
In an alternate series of events, Sage reveals to Sonic that she had calculated a very unlikely series of events which may nevertheless be the key to defeating The End. She restores Sonic's friends in their holographic states, but re-infects the hedgehog with Cyber Corruption. After the heroes locate and collect the Chaos Emeralds on Ouranos Island, and Sonic undergoes training that lets him transform his corruption into a new power source, Sonic goes Super and fights Supreme under The End's control. Once the Titan is down, however, The End materializes in the real world and takes direct control of it in order to crush the opposition. Sage has to protect Eggman until he is ready to use Supreme's cannon to launch Sonic into The End and destroy it. After that, Eggman and Sage are reunited and eventually leave Starfall Islands together.
Personality[]
Sage is a restricted artificial intelligence hologram created by Dr. Eggman. At first glance, Sage appears to be a cold and calculating individual, often relying on projections and logical analysis to make decisions. Though she is stoic and professional in her behavior, it is clear that she genuinely cares for her father, Dr. Eggman. It turns out that her ultimate goal is to free her father from Cyber Space and protect everyone from THE END.
As the game progresses, Sage becomes more open and considerate. After observing Sonic's companionship with his friends and from being given Heart Tokens by said hedgehog, Sage becomes significantly nicer and more heroic, to the point where she eventually comes to trust him after he and his friends continually defy the odds and help her understand their emotional sides better. This heightened sense of empathy leads to her being able to connect with other people easier, rapidly increasing her understanding and perception of others.
Ultimately, Sage realizes the importance of companionship and learns to value the relationships she has with close ones. She becomes more patient and open to different ideas, no longer relying solely on logical calculations to make decisions. To make up for trying to attack and intimidate Sonic so many times earlier, Sage selflessly helps him in stopping THE END from destroying the world. With this newfound resolve, she dedicates herself to protecting the established bond and does everything in her power to make sure her new family remains safe.

The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog[]
In The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog, Sage was awaiting the arrival of the Mirage Express along with Metal Sonic and Eggman himself. However, the three were disappointed when they realized that the train would never make it to their base.
Powers and Abilities[]
Sage was apparently designed to possess an undermined amount of control over digital networks. She was used in an attempt to obtain secrets of a highly advanced civilization and was able to protect Dr. Eggman from various threats within Cyber Space, a digital-based dimension. Eggman even claimed he could integrate Sage into his personal network, the EggNet, and give her command over all his Badniks. However, she was unable to assume complete control of the Starfall Islands' Titans and could only direct their hostility and anger toward her enemies. Sage has also capable of levitation, teleportation, and generating a laser from her hand.

Trivia[]
- Sage's name is an anagram of "Sega", although the name is also thought to be a subtle nod to the Sonic Amateur Games Expo, an online annual fangame exhibit meant to highlight community made content. However, the intentions behind her naming are currently unconfirmed.
- Unlike his other Badniks, Eggman cares deeply for Sage.
- Dr. Eggman has created two different cybernetic "daughters" in the comics before Sage made her debut in Sonic Frontiers.
- In the Archie comics, Eggman made a robotic daughter called M who possessed some similar personality traits to Sage but was older in appearance. Sonic Frontiers writer Ian Flynn has previously stated that he liked the character during his time working on the Archie Sonic comics, although it is unknown if M had any bearing on Sage's portrayal.
- In the IDW comics, Eggman's friendly alter-ego Mr. Tinker created a wooden robotic daughter named Belle the Tinkerer who, unlike M or Sage, showed no resentment toward Sonic and his friends.
- Sage's both voice actresses have voiced Rei Ayanami, (Megumi Hayashibara in the original Japanese, & Ryan Bartley, in Netflix Dub) whom the character Sage is based on.
