Viscount Saito Chevalier de Hiraga des Ornières (born '''Hiraga Saito; Japanese: 平賀才人 Hiraga Saitō, pronunciation: /saɪtoʊ hirɑːgɑː/) is the main male character of Zero no Tsukaima. He was originally from Earth (specifically Tokyo, Japan) before he became Louise's familiar and settled in Tristain.
Following the events of the anime's final episode, he married Louise after which they honeymooned in Tokyo.
He was voiced by Satoshi Hino in the Japanese version, and by Jonathan Meza in the English version.
Appearance[]
Saito has blue eyes and is always seen wearing a blue with a white yolk jacket. He has short, slightly spiked black hair. When doing a quest he is seen with Derflinger, the sword of Gandálfr, in a hilt strap wrapped around his back. Later in the series he is made a Chevalier and is granted the right to wear a black cloak.
Personality[]
Saito is a compassionate and caring young man, and contrary to the Noble/Peasant hierarchy of Halkeginia, treats all those he encounters with initial respect and courtesy, assuming they are not openly hostile. This is most openly observed in his indifferent treatment of peasants such as Siesta, or non-humans such as Tiffania, to a noble of high birth such as Louise. This can be attributed to his modern upbringing in Japan where such differences are nonexistent. He also seems to have a deep dislike of those who act above others for such apparently noble positions, such as Guiche's initial snobbish attitude during the first season. He is extremely defensive and caring for his friends, especially Louise. This is exhibited greatly when he stayed behind during the invasion of Albion in order to stall the enemy army in order for Louise, his friends, and his allied soldiers to escape, despite knowing it certainly meant his death. He will also be very jealous when Louise is flirted with or when she is implied to be desirable by other guys such as Guiche or Wardes. He is in fact, a pervert, but not the extreme degrees in which is he is often accused, as he is prone to getting into awkwardly indecent situations with girls, which will inevitably cause Louise or other girls to become jealous or angry.
Background[]
Before being summoned to Halkeginia, Saito lived an ordinary life with his mother and father. It is also noted that he was an average student and that he would have possibly had to attend remedial classes.
