Sam, also known as the Protagonist, is the main protagonist of the survival horror RPG Look Outside.
He is a young man who is stuck in an apartment building full of monsters and must use what resources he can find to survive as he tries to find a way to stop the apocalypse.
Biography[]
After having a strange dream, Sam woke up in his bedroom one day with the urge to look outside his apartment window. But before he could do so, he hears the voice of his neighbor Sybil coming from a hole in the wall. Sybil tells him that it is a bad idea to look outside as something horrible was going on and he should stay indoors for at least 15 days to allow the events outside to pass. From that point on, Sam must explore his apartment building to gather the resources he needs to survive. He must also deal with the building's inhabitants, most of which have been transformed into insane monsters while others have retained their sanity and could help Sam in different ways.
Sam eventually meets with some astronomers who reveal that an Eldritch being called The Visitor was gazing at their planet from space and its gaze was responsible for transforming almost everyone outside into horrific, man-eating beasts. Sam can help the astronomers perform a ritual to contact The Visitor by collecting four different items needed for the ceremony. Depending on Sam's choices, different endings can occur.
Endings[]
No Going Back[]
If Sam survives for 15 days, He will go outside to find the planet now overrun by monsters, with the strongest kaiju-sized ones considered the new "rulers of the world". Two-thirds of humanity did not survive the carnage and those who became monsters that retain their sanity found it difficult to cope with their new forms. Nonetheless, Sam and the other survivors would have to learn and adapt to live in this dangerous new world.
Perfect Ritual[]
Should Sam bring all the correct items for the Astronomers's ceremony, the ritual will draw The Visitor's gaze right to them and cause all four Astronomers to merge into a monstrosity called the Exalted Four. However, The merged creature's remaining sanity gives Sam and their party a chance to escape before it is lost completely.
If they choose to say and manage to defeat the Exalted Four in battle, Sam ascends into space and convinces The Visitor to leave their planet alone as the Eldritch being were causing it much harm. The Visitor is grateful for being alerted of this and agrees to leave, but before they do, they offer Sam a chance to witness its true form.
Denial[]
If Sam refuses, his time with The Visitor causes him to transform into a giant, multi-limbed creature with his sanity remaining intact. One quarter of humanity was wiped out during the catastrophe that occurred, but Sam used his growing new form to help the survivors rebuild the world. He also provided people with comfort through difficult times as his reach grew further across the globe. Sam's presence and assistance had bought many people together, which helped restore societies within only a few years. Eventually his limbs grew to engulf the entire planet, but people took to living on his body which made him feel very happy and accepted.
Truth[]
If Sam agrees to see The Visitor's true form, his mind and body cannot handle the full scope of it and he transforms into a giant, mindless monstrosity with maws all over his body. The maws began devouring everyone and everything in sight as Sam's body grow larger to spread across the world. Eventually, the entire planet is devoured the maws and nobody on its surface is spared.
Screaming Sky[]
If Sam and his party run from the Exalted Four when given the chance, the monster will lose its sanity and fly around the planet screaming as it assimilates with anyone it can find. About 90 percent of humanity was wiped out within the 15 days since Sam first left his apartment, and the Exalted Four was responsible for most of the victims during that time.
Flawed Ritual[]
Should Sam only get three of the four Astronomers to show up for the ceremony, they will began to merge together during the ritual and must be defeated in combat. Afterwards, Sam returns to his apartment and looks at himself in the bathroom mirror. At first he seems normal, but then he is horrified to find himself transforming from exposure to the Visitor's gaze. Although he tries to calm himself by closing his eyes, he soon opens them again to the terrifying sight of his new monstrous form.
Eternal Fate[]
Should Sam bring a hamster as one of the items for the Astronomer's ceremony, it will merge with all four Astronomers present to create a monster called Xin-Amon which must be fought in combat. If Sam and his party are defeated, Xin-Amon will devour them and be merged into its body in terrible, excruciating pain for all eternity.
Xin-Amon[]
Should Sam somehow defeat Xin-Amon, he will discover (to his horror) that he has only defeated an increasingly small part of an ever-growing monstrosity that is beginning to assimilate the world. Without the minds of the astronomers to keep it in check, it consumes everything, only to become incredibly lonely in the aftermath.
Failed Ritual[]
Should Sam botch all four offerings, resulting in the four Astronomers being mutated, he will attempt to commune with the Visitor himself, only to be nightmarishly mutated into a living fractal, having accomplished nothing of value in fifteen days, leaving the world to continue to decay.
