Sara Kingdom is the tritagonist of the Season 3 serial, The Dalek's Master Plan in the Classic series of Doctor Who.
She was portrayed by Jean Marsh, who has reprised the role for the Big Finish audio plays.
Biography[]
Sara was an agent of the Space Security Service in the year 4000. She was convinced by Guardian of the Solar System Mavic Chen that her brother and fellow agent Bret Vyon was a traitor who had stolen a valuable Taranium Core and was assigned to execute him. Sara killed Bret as per her orders and then pursued his associates the Doctor and Steven Taylor. As she was confronting them, they became caught up in a cellular dissemination experiment and transported to the planet Mira.
There, the Doctor and Steven convinced Sara of the truth: Mavic Chen was working for the Daleks and had been providing them with the taranium to provide their Time Destructor weapon. When the Daleks followed them to Mira, Sara, the Doctor and Steven used the Daleks' space craft to return to the Daleks' base planet Kembel, where the Doctor and Steven had left the TARDIS. Tricking the Daleks with a fake Taranium Core, they managed to escape the planet.
Sara spent some time travelling with the Doctor and Steven, visiting places such as Liverpool at Christmas 1965 and a Hollywood film set in the 1920s. On the planet Tigus, they encountered another old enemy of the Doctor, the Meddling Monk, who tried to lock them out of the TARDIS. Their next stop was Ancient Egypt, where they were tracked by the Daleks and Mavic Chen, who took Steven, Sara and the Monk hostage and forced the Doctor to return the Taranium Core.
Using a component stolen from the Monk's TARDIS, the Doctor, Steven and Sara were able to return to Kembel, where the Daleks had betrayed their allies. Steven and Sara freed them and convinced them to warn the galaxy of the Daleks' plans but Chen still believed he could do a deal with the Daleks and captured the pair, only to be exterminated. Telling his friends to return to the TARDIS, the Doctor activated the Time Destructor, devastating the planet and the Dalek army. Sara disobeyed the Doctor's instructions and stayed behind to help the Doctor, only to be aged to death by the effects of the device.
Trivia[]
- Despite her death in the story, Sara's creator Terry Nation used her as the protagonist of his Doctor-less Dalek stories in annuals and an unmade pilot which was later adapted by Big Finish.
