Sareena Seasquid

Sareena Seasquid is a secondary antagonist turned supporting protagonist in Barbie: Mermaid Power. She is an inhabitant of Pacifica who was chosen for the Pacifica games to determine the next Power Keeper. She was once an avid supporter of Talleigha Fishtail, but when she awakens as a Water mermaid, she begins to change her mind about Talleigha upon witnessing the latter's super-competitive attitude that opens her eyes to how callous and egocentric she truly is.

She is voiced by Cassidy Naber.

History[]

Sareena is shown as one of the attendants of the Golden Pearl ceremony early on, where she is chosen alongside Talleigha and Finn to be competitors in the Pacifica games that will determine the next Power Keeper. After the arrival of the Barbies and the other Roberts sisters, Sareena is seen swimming alongside Talleigha and Finn, telling them about her hope of becoming an Earth mermaid, since she wishes to make plants grow there. When Aquaryah, Finn's little sister, expresses her point of view on mermaid powers, Talleigha dismisses her idea, causing Sareena to laugh at her friend's comment about the younger mermaid never being able to keep up with the "big fish". She and the others head inside the castle right after for the opening ceremony.

Once inside, Coralia welcomes all the competitors, who additionally reveals that two of them have arrived from the surface world to compete in the games. Sareena instantly expresses hostility towards Malibu and Brooklyn, stating that humans have done more harm than good for the sea. Malibu and Brooklyn immediately protest the idea that not all humans are as bad as the merpeople think they are, and there's more to humans than meets the eye. After the ceremony is over, Isla assists Malibu and Brooklyn in developing their powers, only to be called away by Talleigha and Sareena, who, insult the two Barbies again before leaving themselves along with Isla.

That night, at the mermaid feast, the Barbies are approached by Sareena and Talleigha again, challenging them to a Power-Off above a deadly whirlpool. Due to their inexperience, the Barbies get off to a rough start and are easily overpowered by Sareena when she uses an air bubble to trap them and is seemingly about to let them get pulled into the whirlpool, but pops the bubble over the cliff in the nick of time. This blatant disregard for sportsmanship sparks defensive emotions in Brooklyn, and as Sareena watches, the human-turned-mermaid awakens her causes her fire powers to emerge. However, Talleigha refuses to be overshadowed by a human, and awakens her own pyrokinesis as well in response, which Sareena congratulates her for. But when Talleigha's subsequent sneak attack nearly kills Malibu and Stacie awakens her own Earth powers to save her sister, Brooklyn immediately calls off the Power-Off and swims away with the sisters before any protests can be made. Aquaryah and Finn call Talleigha out on her actions, but Talleigha refuses to listen to reason, and she and Sareena simply swim off in a huff.

At the games the next day, Sareena competes in the Air and Earth challenges, watching as Finn transforms into an Earth merman. During the Water challenge, Sareena teams up with one of the sea animals to aid her in the obstacle course, but not before witnessing Talleigha abusing a shark and her super-competitive attitude revealing it's uglier side. Upon winning the challenge, with Malibu a close second, Sareena ends up awakening as a Water mermaid. Once the race concludes, Sareena denounces Talleigha's actions and refuses to support her any longer, to which Talleigha responds by decrying her as a traitor along with the others. On this note, Finn and a mermaid named Skipper return with the vaquita Viva, needing a Water mermaid in order to translate Viva's language. Sareena comes forward and reveals that Viva witnessed Aquaryah's capture.

Meanwhile, Malibu, also inexplicably able to understand Viva's language, reveals that Chelsea was also kidnapped with Aquaryah. Coralia quickly explains that the games must be postponed to deal with an immediate emergency; an island of accumulated trash that is dangerously close to Mermaid Rock. While Malibu and Viva go out to rescue Chelsea and Aquaryah, Sareena goes with the other merpeople to clear up the accumulated trash in the meantime.

Sareena participates in the cleanup effort to help remove the trash, but all their powers are ineffective against the massive mound of pollution. When Malibu arrives with a newly transformed Marlo, followed by Chelsea and Aquaryah, Talleigha reveals that the power of the Power Keeper is required to finish this task. Malibu, fortunately, reveals that being to be Aquaryah, who, after an inspiring speech from Malibu, steps up and is able to unlock her innate powers as the most powerful of all the merpeople. Malibu encourages all the merpeople to aim their power at Aquaryah, with Sareena being one of the many to do so. As they all watch, Aquaryah uses her newfound abilities to eradicate the island of accumulated trash.

Sareena is shown to be attending the Mermaid Moon Festival in the end, celebrating with her fellow merpeople at Mermaid Rock.
