My name is Sasuke Uchiha. I hate a lot of things, and I don't particularly like anything. What I have is not a dream, because I will make it a reality. I'm going to restore my clan, and destroy a certain someone.
~ Sasuke (Introducing himself to his former team mates).

Sasuke Uchiha (うちはサスケ, Uchiha Sasuke) is the deuteragonist of the Naruto anime/manga series and rival of the titular protagonist Naruto Uzumaki. He serves as a villain from the middle of Part I towards the end of Part II before redeeming himself. He is Itachi's younger brother.

He is voiced by Yuri Lowenthal in the English dub and by Noriaki Sugiyama in the Japanese dub.

Background

Kushina and Sasuke

Meeting the infant Sasuke Uchiha

Sasuke was born on July 23rd and second son to Fugaku Uchiha, the chief of the Konoha Military Police Force and Mikoto Uchiha, members of the Uchiha clan who founded the Hidden Leaf Village alongside the Senju clan generations ago. He was named after the father of the Third Hokage, as his mother hoped he would grow up to be a fine shinobi like his namesake. While still an infant, Sasuke was in the care of his older brother Itachi Uchiha as they saw the attack of the village by Kurama the Nine Tailed Fox, only with Sasuke sensing the demon's evil chakara which frightened him. That event, due to the fact that only a Uchiha could control the Tailed Beast, ultimately led to their clan losing complete standing.

Uchiha's

Sasuke and his family

As a child and unaware of the events that revolved on his clan, Sasuke was more focused on becoming like Itachi, who had their father's favor, and trained to become strong. However, when Itachi began to distance himself from the Uchiha Clan, Sasuke found himself getting Fugaku's attention as he taught Sasuke their clan's Fireball Jutsu which the boy spend days to master before being told not to follow in Itachi's footsteps.

Itachi and Sasuke

The Uchiha Clan Massacre

One evening, coming home from practicing his ninjutsu, shrugging off the feeling that someone was watching him, Sasuke found the area surrounding his home littered with dead bodies of Uchiha Clan members. Frightened and confused, Sasuke ran to his home to find his parents killed by Itachi's hand. Freaking out as he yells at Itachi at what he was doing, Sasuke finds his left shoulder wounded as he is subjected to Itachi's Tsukiyomi playing the slaughter Itachi committing. Itachi then tells Sasuke that he spared him because he is weak, telling his brother of obtain the Sharingan in Mangekyo form and live a life of hatred before facing him again. As Itachi leaves, giving him the location of their clan's vital documents, enraged Sasuke caused his Sharingan to manifest as he attempts to kill his brother. However, Itachi overpowered Sasuke and he ended up in a coma for a few days. With the events hazy, due to his brother's genjutsu, Sasuke had no memory of obtaining the Sharingan. After mourning over his clan's death and discovering the secret documents on the stone tablets, Sasuke swore to avenge his clan and kill Itachi by any means. Since then, Sasuke has become a loner and kept to himself most of the time. While attending the Ninja Academy a few years later, Sasuke encountered a similar social misfit, Naruto Uzumaki. Since that meeting, Naruto recognizing the festering darkness in Sasuke's eyes and the two had become destined rivals.

Personality

Sasuke child

Sasuke's pleasant disposition as a child.

When he was a child, Sasuke was very kind, loving towards his parents and older brother and respectful to his fellow clansmen as well as his teachers. He was even very proud of being Itachi's younger brother and the youngest son Fugaku and Mikoto — famous for being devoted protectors of Konoha, and he desired to emulate them. His original dream was to join the Konoha Military Police Force when he grew up, like his father and as such greatly sought his father's approval and acknowledgement of his abilities. After Itachi massacred the clan, Sasuke's ideals and personality changed drastically due to him suffering his clan's curse and became cold, indifferent, cruel, cynical, somewhat arrogant, unreasonable and devoted the next nine years of his life to kill Itachi.

When he is first introduced to Team Kakashi, Sasuke displayed great indifference to his team-mates as well as others. Feeling superior to all of them, including his teacher, Sasuke was unwilling to cooperate with any of his team-mates, as he felt they would provide him no aid in furthering his ambition to kill his brother; this attitude affected his grades in the Academy after losing his clan, he had the lowest score in cooperation and second lowest in assertiveness. However over time, as he interacted more with his team mates on a day-to-day basis, he began to see them as somewhat of a family and Sasuke started to lose some of his hatred, caring more about his team than his revenge. Sasuke even admitted to Naruto that he almost thought that he must forget about his revenge and instead focus on Team 7. However, Orochimaru branded Sasuke with the Cursed Seal of Heaven during the Chūnin Exams to help push him back into his desire for vengeance and to give him a taste of power. Although Kakashi Hatake sealed away the cursed seal, and taught him the Chidori in the hopes of deviating him from the path of revenge, Sasuke began to draw more power from the seal in the hopes of getting stronger. This caused his previous ambition to be renewed while causing him to disregard camaraderie once again. According to Kakashi, Sasuke has both a and an complex, as he is unwilling to acknowledge when someone is stronger than him, but obsesses when he believes that they are. For example, he was complacent with his rivalry with Naruto when he believed he was the stronger of the two, but upon noticing Naruto's fast growth, showcased in his victory over Sunagakure's jinchūriki, Gaara, who had previously beaten Sasuke, and his own quick defeat by Itachi on his return to Konoha, all culminated in his defection to Otogakure to seek power from Orochimaru.

In Part II, Sasuke became increasingly confident in his newfound abilities. Constantly, he remained composed and unconcerned with the situation at hand. Even when pressured by enemies like Orochimaru or Deidara, he showed no emotional build up; ironically, acting much like his older brother and only getting worked up when it involved Itachi. Despite getting stronger, Sasuke seemed unwilling to needlessly kill in his quest for revenge displaying that he still had some morals Sasuke, however, retained his habit of underestimating his opponents, shown in his overconfidence in his battles. Sasuke has displayed an overbearing sense of pride in his clan's name and a great sense of loyalty to it and kept wearing his clan's crest on his back proudly while refusing to wear any other symbols such as a forehead protector. Despite claiming earlier that he did not care if he had to sacrifice his own body to Orochimaru as long as it served his quest for revenge when Sasuke felt he had grown stronger than Orochimaru he thought that to give himself up to someone weaker than himself was insulting to the Uchiha. However, despite his disrespect of Orochimaru as a person, Sasuke does have great respect for his power, going so far as to reprimand Suigetsu when he felt the latter was underestimating Orochimaru's capabilities. He also views anyone outside of the clan wielding its dōjutsu as an insult, as the eye is representative of the Uchiha clan's powers, showing disgust towards Danzō Shimura who had ten Sharingan embedded in his arm, and an eleventh one in his right eye socket and stated that Kakashi should feel grateful to the Uchiha for the power of his Mangekyō Sharingan. According to Tobi, Sasuke alone is shouldering the entire hatred of the Uchiha clan — an ideal which has been passed down for generations within the clan. After his battle with Itachi, which concluded in the latter's death, the revelation that he had actually been ordered by the Konoha Elders to eradicate the clan coupled with the new knowledge that Itachi had truly loved him, Sasuke vowed to kill the elders for using his brother and ordering him to massacre the Uchiha clan. After he confirmed the truth and became even more induced by his clan's hatred, Sasuke quickly grew to loathe the village that he once called home and vowed to destroy it, thus separating any connection it had to the Uchiha clan and purify the clan's name and pride in the process. He, however, when returning to discover the truth, still felt some connection to his birth place.

Sasukee

Sasuke's hatred overwhelms him as he ruthlessly sacrifices Karin.

Initially, Sasuke still held onto the notion of sparing the innocent and refused to kill anyone unrelated to his revenge. However as his hatred overcame him, he became cold and ruthless, to the point where he was willing to kill anyone who stood in his way and he would kill innocent people of Konoha if it meant achieving his revenge against the village. In his thirst for vengeance, Sasuke put himself far above anyone or anything around him; willingly cooperating with Tobi, whom he knew helped Itachi wipe out his clan, to aid him in destroying Konoha, abandoning his team when they were no longer useful to him. This is seen when he abandoned Suigetsu and Jugo during the battle at the Kage Summit and when he tried to kill Karin in order to dispose of Danzo. When Sakura Haruno confessed her love to him, Sasuke, while caring deeply for Sakura, declined to reciprocate her feelings out of making revenge as his priority, though before he left the village, he gave Sakura a genuine thank you. But would later, he would show extreme indifference towards her and tried to kill her twice after realizing she meant to do the same to him to stop him. Despite his arrogance and brutality, Sasuke is not above giving praise (albeit in a grudging, if not sarcastic, way) to his enemies as he commended Gaara for the strength and speed of his absolute defence and admitted that Kakashi was very skilled at using the Sharingan for someone who wasn't an Uchiha. After expressing a feeling of exhilaration that he had never before felt upon killing Danzō and even declaring that he sees that killing the members of Konoha as a high priority and satisfaction, Karin, Kakashi, Sakura, and the rest of Konoha 11 completely lost all hope for him. Upon receiving his "Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan", Sasuke's cruelty seemingly reached a new level when he killed White Zetsu simply to test out his new powers. Due to being further overwhelmed by his clan's curse, he has also grown to show great homicidal rage whenever someone mentions Itachi in a negative way, even if it's indirect and remote as shown when Kakashi tries to make him understand that there's more to his life than just his clan and his love for blood-soaked loathing only to angrily reply by saying that he wants to hear their screams and moans for laughing at Itachi's sacrifice, crushing Danzō with his Susanoo for speaking ill of his brother and ready to murder a team of ignorant Konoha shinobi for doing the same. Sasuke's inherited Uchiha hatred has also twisted any of his potentially happy memories of Konoha into negative ones in order to fuel his vengeance.

During the second day of the Fourth Shinobi World War, upon reuniting with a reincarnated Itachi, Sasuke showed a somewhat more vulnerable side to himself instead of his usual coldness. This showed just how confused and torn up he is over Itachi's decision, telling his brother that he did not understand why he was spared during the massacre and apparently implying that he would have rather died as a child than have had to deal with the grief and suffering that followed. Having to live through many lies Itachi set for him, Sasuke wanted to hear the truth from Itachi himself. While Sasuke claimed the reunion with Itachi only intensified his hatred towards Konoha, he began to question if revenge is the purpose for his life. Despite this, he was willing to forgive Itachi but no the village and he still wanted to destroy it, even though he knew it was against Itachi's wishes. when Itachi gave Sasuke his parting words, Sasuke began to wonder what it means to be a shinobi and why Itachi would lose everything for the village and his brother. His desire to find the answer led him to revive Orochimaru, who noted how much Sasuke has changed from how he was when being manipulated by Itachi, Tobi, and himself. Orochimaru agreed to reanimate the previous Hokage so he can listen to their stories and allow Sasuke to be his own person without being manipulated for the first time in his life. After getting his answers, Sasuke accepted Itachi's actions and decided to protect Konoha, but he would do so in his own ways. Believing the previous Hokage to be responsible to the world's current problems, he vowed to change the world by becoming Hokage, seemingly breaking free from his Curse of Hatred. While these intentions were noble, many of his former comrades were angry at him for returning and didn't trust him. Regardless, Sasuke fought with the sole intention of defeating Obito, Madara, the Ten-Tails, and Kaguya, though his reasons were largely unknown. Sasuke was one of the few shinobi to not lose his resolve, even chastising Naruto for almost doing so. However, Sasuke was angered by Naruto's new powers, as he always believed he was stronger than Naruto and had more advantages due to his lineage. Regardless, Sasuke's devotion to his cause remained unchanged, to the point where he was willing to abandon Sakura and Kakashi during the casting of the Infinite Tsukuyomi, only saving them because they happened to be near Naruto. He is, however, not above thanking others, such as thanking Sakura and Obito for saving him when he was trapped in one of Kaguya's dimensions.

After defeating Kaguya, Sasuke revealed his plans: make himself the villain for the world to focus their hatred on and give them a reason to remain united. To accomplish this, he planned to kill the current five Kage to get the five nations to focus their hatred on him rather than one another and to kill the tailed beasts to prevent further fighting over their immense powers. Realizing this would require him to cut all ties to the past and Naruto would never stop chasing after him, he resolved to kill his best and only friend. Having come to accept Itachi's efforts to protect the village while branded as a criminal, Sasuke believed that to unify the world, one must be willing to bear the hatred all around him and stand separated from the rest of the world, viewing that as the correct definition as Hokage. Growing arrogant of his acquired powers, Sasuke believed he was the strongest person alive and his power would grant him immortality to continue his goal for eternity. After his final battle with Naruto, Sasuke was shocked by the lengths Naruto would go for him. He revealed he had always been jealous of Naruto for the fact that despite being so similar, Naruto turned loneliness into strength by forming bonds, while Sasuke pushed those bonds away, thinking of them as a weakness, and subjected himself to training and solitude. In the process, Sasuke found himself following behind Naruto as he did with Itachi. Moved to tears by Naruto's determination to be there for him as a friend, Sasuke acknowledged Naruto's friendship and admitted defeat, ultimately overcoming his Curse of Hatred. He showed great remorse for his actions and went as far as to apologize to Sakura for what he put her through. He later showed genuine affection towards her, even poking her on the forehead like Itachi used to with him, before he left to explore the world and seek redemption for himself. This mutual affection with Sakura led him to finally falling in love with her, leading to the two getting married and having a daughter named Sarada.

As an adult, Sasuke has matured by becoming more polite and friendly with his friends and comrades, but he retains his habit of not acknowledging certain people and making insults, albeit more comically than coldly. After becoming a father, Sasuke became very caring and protective towards his family and, despite being apart from them for many years, he feels a deep connection to them. Sasuke is still capable of being indifferent if it is necessary, including towards his own daughter, who doubted her father cared about her. However, Sasuke loves his daughter dearly, as he puts her safety above his own and he showed Sarada how much he loved her and promised to come home, proving himself as a loving father. Sasuke also acknowledges his mistakes as a father and is willing to apologize for them. He also holds a high opinion of Sakura; despite her being kidnapped, Sasuke stated his confidence she will probably have finished Shin off by the time they found her and he criticized Orochimaru for calling her weak. Despite being truly in love with Sakura, Sasuke comically refused to kiss her while Sarada was watching them.

Abilities

Sasuke is hailed as a brilliant ninja, even by the battle-adept Uchiha clan's standards, showing an undeniable prodigious talent and keen intellect to excel at all that he does from early childhood. From this, he finds little difficulty in more challenging tasks since his time in the Academy. Scoring the highest in the performance tests and one of the highest in written tests, he easily graduated at the top of his Academy class. Sasuke has great knowledge if not proficiency in many of his clan's techniques, despite his lack of formal training by relying solely on his innate talent and determination. His abilities have been compared to various remarkable individuals like Kakashi Hatake, who was also hailed as a genius since childhood. Various powerful shinobi have commented on Sasuke's potential, stating that he can with time surpass the likes of Itachi, Nagato and even Madara Uchiha. Orochimaru, who was recognised as the genius of his generation, also noted that Sasuke is far stronger than he was at the same age when he was training Sasuke in Part II.

After awakening his Mangekyō Sharingan (despite not being fully healed from battling Itachi), Sasuke proved able to stand against Killer B, a jinchūriki and extremely powerful ninja, who praised Sasuke as one of the strongest ninja he has ever faced. After fully healing and adjusting to his Mangekyō Sharingan, Sasuke proved able to hold his own against at least two Kage, their respective bodyguards and various samurai warriors. He also fought on even grounds with Danzō, another Kage-level opponent, and ultimately defeated him despite the elder's repeated use of Izanagi — a feat that later earned him praise from Itachi. By the time of the Fourth Shinobi World War, Sasuke was able to match his older brother in various fields of combat, able to work well with him against Kabuto, who had greatly modified his body and gained numerous abilities. After receiving Hagoromo Ōtsutsuki's power and awakening the Rinnegan, Sasuke, like Naruto Uzumaki was able to overpower the Ten-Tails' jinchūriki Madara with ease forcing the latter to both absorb the Shinju and to retrieve his other Rinnegan.

Taijutsu

Lions Barrage

Sasuke delivers the finishing blow of the Lion Combo.

Sasuke's taijutsu was at a very high level since the start of the series, able to shock Kakashi, a famous jōnin, during his bell test by forcing Kakashi to use both hands, and outmanoeuvre two chūnin-level Kirigakure missing-nin. Following his encounter with Rock Lee, Sasuke's skills improved drastically. Having used his Sharingan to copy several of Lee's Shadow of the Dancing Leaf, Sasuke began creating his own manoeuvres. Under Kakashi's tutelage for the Chūnin Exams, he refined more of Lee's Strong Fist-style to roughly matching Lee's combat skills and speed in one month. With this, he overwhelmed Gaara during their initial fight. By the end of Part I, he could hold his own against the entire Sound Four and later dominate Naruto in their battle for most of the fight even when Naruto started using Kurama's chakra. In Part II, Sasuke further improved his taijutsu under Orochimaru's guidance, able to hold his own in a taijustu fight against the likes Itachi and Kakashi, despite his physical debilitation against the latter.

Since being a recent academy graduate, Sasuke showed a high level of speed and reflexes, being the first of his fellow genin to react to the Demon Brothers' ambush. After improving in chakra control, his speed was on a just outpace Haku. He later increased his speed further to outrun Gaara's sand and move faster than unaided eyes could follow in Part I. In Part II, Sasuke's speed saw a huge leap, able to cover wide gaps in the blink of when first facing Team Kakashi in Part II, giving his former allies no time to react. He was later able to evade both Deidara's clay explosions at point-blank range on multiple occasions, and attacks from the extremely fast Killer B and A, though he credited the last to his Sharingan's ability to read their linear moves. He also greatly increased his hand speed, able to do many hand seals in a blur and launch weapon strikes just as quickly, as seen during his fight with Itachi. His speed and proficiency with the Body Flicker Technique have also grown considerably, able to easily cut his opponents down without them noticing. Upon awakening his Rinnegan and meeting Hagoromo Ōtsutsuki and gaining half his power, Sasuke was able to overwhelm and outpace Madara Uchiha despite him being the Ten-Tails' jinchūriki, a feat which Madara praised him for.

Sasuke has shown a high level of stamina and endurance, able to endure a consistent string of battles against the samurai, two Kage and their bodyguards before finally collapsing from exhaustion. In a near-blind, battered, and visibly exhausted state from his latter fight with Danzō and overusing the Mangekyō Sharingan, he still had enough stamina to fight against Kakashi, restrain and disarm Sakura and later match Naruto's Rasengan with his Chidori. His raw strength has also become noticeably greater, being able to lift Sakura by her throat into the air with a single hand even while exhausted. His overall improvements were so great that Sakura even suspected that he had been given drugs to improve his physical capabilities. By adulthood, Sasuke's overall strength and speed had vastly improved to the extent where he could perform synchronized attacks with Naruto enhanced by Six Paths Sage Mode.

Cursed Seal

A noticeable aspect of Sasuke's growth was his acquisition of the Cursed Seal of Heaven. Orochimaru, recognising his potential, bestowed the seal on him to grant him greater strength, and to entice him to seek Orochimaru for further power. When activated, the cursed seal forcefully absorbed Sasuke's chakra, replacing it with Orochimaru's senjutsu chakra which covered his body with a flame-like pattern and granted him enhanced chakra capacity, as well as increased strength, speed, and endurance. Initially, the seal would activate and overwhelm Sasuke if he used his chakra or became too excited, and he was only able to control it with extreme force of will. After defecting from Konoha, the Sound Four advanced Sasuke's Cursed Seal to Level Two, allowing Sasuke to control and unleash its activation at will. When fully transformed, the second level of the cursed seal turned Sasuke's skin dark grey with a black four-point star-mark between his eyes and across the bridge of his nose, his sclerae turn black, his irides turn yellow (except when using his Sharingan), and his lips turn blue. He also grows claw-like nails and his hair grows to waist-length. At any time, he is able to grow large webbed hand-shaped wings on his back that gave him the ability to fly. This granted him power comparable to Naruto's one-tailed form, granting him further enhanced physical attributes and enhanced his techniques.

However, the seal had disadvantages. Prolonged periods of time would corrode Sasuke's body and caused him some pain. Also the presence of Orochimaru's chakra twisted and darkened Sasuke's personality. However with additional training, Sasuke greatly extended the time he could maintain his cursed seal active. In Part II, Sasuke gained complete control and mastery over the cursed seal, and could even access its power without fully activating it and even perform partial transformations at will. Since Itachi sealed Orochimaru, the seal was removed from Sasuke. Despite this, Sasuke's being still proved compatible with the cursed seal's source, Jūgo. Since allying himself with Jūgo, Sasuke has benefited from Jūgo's power via taking advantage of the senjutsu imbued healing by infusing some of Jūgo's flesh into his own. Alternatively, Sasuke himself can be imbued with some of Jūgo's chakra to augment the Uchiha's various techniques, like his Susanoo, producing a "Senjutsu Susanoo".

Ninjutsu

Bukijutsu

Since early childhood, Sasuke has displayed great skill and use of various ninja tools which has grown and diversified over time. Sasuke was trained in archery during his childhood. He is also skilled in the use of wire strings, using them for a variety of purposes ranging from rappelling, to manipulating the path of his shurikens, to ensnaring an opponent and setting them on fire. His level with both trap and weapon-based tactics even surprised Kakashi during their first bell test. During the second stage of the Chūnin Exams, Sasuke displayed the ability to infuse his kunai with chakra.

Kenjutsu

ChidoriKatana

During his training with Orochimaru, Sasuke became a skilled user of kenjutsu and acquired a Sword of Kusanagi, which become a major part of his fighting style. His skill was able to defeat hundreds of Oto-nin unscathed and without killing them. His skills were better shown during the Kage Summit, as he effortlessly killed multiple samurai, even deflect their barrage of chakra blasts, and skilfully blocked an attack from Mifune, a famous master swordsman, who acknowledged Sasuke's swordsmanship. Sasuke's lethal swordsmanship is shown to be very versatile, using impressive speed and precision behind his attacks, leaving little time for enemies to react. He can effectively use it in either a normal or reverse grip, giving him various attack styles and able to attack or defend from various angles, letting him easily change his attack type to suit the situation. He can use his blade as a mid-range projectile with great precision as seen during the battle against Kabuto. Sasuke is also able to adapt his swordsmanship with equal proficiency into his element-related techniques, including a makeshift Chidori blade or flexible sword made from his Blaze Release.

Shurikenjutsu

Sasuke giant shuriken

Sasuke wielding a fūma shuriken.

Sasuke is also well-versed in weapons use such as kunai and shuriken, showing tremendous aim while still in the academy. Tactics-wise, he can use techniques like hiding a second shuriken in the shadow of the first and control the path of them using wire strings. With his Sharingan, he can use an advanced version of the latter technique to control a larger number of shuriken at once and even use them to ensnare an opponent with the strings. Sasuke's aim and tactical skills are almost on par with Itachi, also able to effectively hit targets in a blind-spot by accurately deflecting one kunai off another to ensure they strike their mark. Since his battle with Itachi in Part II, Sasuke started using a pair of bracelets with a special seal to instantly summon shuriken and kunai of various size and shape, thus increasing the amount he carries at any one time and launch speed, able to launch an enormous amount of weapons at blazing speed. He has also demonstrated the ability to increase the lethal properties of shuriken by rigging the blades to disconnect and launch them into separate directions. Sasuke can also use his nature transformation to infuse his fire chakra and lightning chakra into his shuriken to increase their power and set up a hidden attack.

Summoning Techniques

Snake Authority Spell 1

Sasuke using snakes to restrain Jūgo and Suigetsu.

Sasuke is one of the rare individuals to have a dual summoning contract with two species: snakes and hawks. Its so far unknown which contract he received first, though he was able to get the snake summoning contract during his training with Orochimaru. He became able to summon various-sized snakes to aid him in battle, even hidden from his sleeves to strike or bind his opponents with little time to react. He was also able to summon snakes from any part of his body. He can also summons Aoda, a giant snake to aid him in his fight to quickly carry him through the terrain.

Some time later, Sasuke also made an additional summoning contract which allows him to summon hawks. Once summoned, it can help Sasuke fly about and outmanoeuvre his opponent's attacks. In the anime, the hawk was also of capable of performing coordinated attacks with Sasuke.

Nature Transformation

Fire Style Fireball

Sasuke using the Fire Release: Great Fireball Technique.

As a recognised member of the Uchiha, Sasuke has great proficiency in Fire Release nature manipulation. A true genius, he already mastered his clan's rite of passage technique, the Fire Release: Great Fireball Technique by age 7. Even Kakashi was amazed at such a feat as, according to him, genin usually require much more experience and developed chakra to perform elemental techniques. He can also use his fire techniques in conjunction with his weapon skills. He can also produce a barrage giant dragon-shaped fireballs that can quickly burn an enemy, even with minimal contact.

Also having a natural affinity for Lightning Release, Sasuke learned to manipulate it under Kakashi's guidance in hoping to deter Sasuke from using the Cursed Seal. Kakashi also taught Sasuke the Chidori, made more effective with his Sharingan, letting Sasuke punch through most obstacles with ease and severely damaging most opponents. In Part I, Sasuke could only use it twice a day, plus a third usage with the activation of his Cursed Seal. In Part II, Sasuke was shown to be able to use the Chidori several times in one day. Over the timeskip, Sasuke greatly developing his lightning chakra, having mastered it to create many new techniques and refined his Chidori, gaining praise later from the Fourth Raikage to break through his Lightning Release Armour at all. His new-found skill can channel his lightning chakra to emit electricity from all over his body and through the ground to act as a shield and stun enemies on contact. He can also channel his lightning chakra into his shuriken and through his sword for extreme cutting power that also numbs anyone it cuts. This is powerful enough to slice through Samurai Sabre Technique. He can also concentrate it into a extendable sword and solid senbon for more precise attacks. Sasuke's most powerful elemental technique is Kirin, a technique that uses natural lightning, allowing Sasuke to perform it even when visibly exhausted. The technique is powerful enough to destroy a small mountain, as well as break through Itachi Uchiha's Susanoo.

After attaining half of Sage of Six Path's power, Sasuke gained Yin Release by using this nature, he is able to produce a more enhanced version of Chidori that is able to pierce Madara Uchiha's jinchūriki form. In addition, his Chidori Sharp Spear became powerful enough to bisect the jinchūriki with ease.

When Sasuke gained the Mangekyō Sharingan, he manifested Amaterasu. He developed it into an advanced form known as the Blaze Release. Aside from unleashing a wave of unquenchable black flames that incinerates everything that reflects in his eyesight, Sasuke can control the movement of the flames into surrounding him and creating spikes to protect himself. As such, he was regarded as more skilled with it than Itachi was by C. When he gained his Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan, his Blaze Release greatly improved. He could combine Blaze Release: Kagutsuchi with Susanoo to create Blaze Release: Susanoo Kagutsuchi that can pierce through heavy defences and ignite them, and create a barrage of Amaterasu magatama to handle multiple enemies. Sasuke could also use his Kagutsuchi without using Susanoo for more direct usage.

Dōjutsu

Sharingan

Sasuke Sharingan

Sasuke's Sharingan

Sasuke is one of select members of the Uchiha clan to possess its famous kekkei genkai, the Sharingan. Sasuke first awakened his Sharingan at age 7, with one Tomoe in each eye, after seeing Itachi murder their clan. However, due to the trauma Sasuke endured, he was unable to recall this development and could not use it until years later during his battle with Haku, where his right eye gained an additional tomoe, afterwards able to use it at his own volition. Shortly before the Chūnin Exam Sasuke gained two tomoe in both eyes and later during his battle against Naruto in the the Valley of the End, both eyes reached full maturity with three tomoe. Since being consciously aware of it, Sasuke drastically increased his time periods to which he can maintain his Sharingan with little effect to his chakra levels, even in prolonged fights against several high-level opponents. While only making liberal use of it during Part I, Orochimaru stated that an even greater power and clarity than Itachi's could be sensed from Sasuke's Sharingan, despite its incomplete state at the time.

This dōjutsu grants Sasuke multiple enhanced visual powers. It grants Sasuke immense clarity, able to observe and differentiate the flow of chakra, plus perceive everything within his sight and from that able to accurately predict a target's movements. After his Sharingan fully develops, he was also able to follow the speed of both Naruto's initial jinchūriki form and one-tailed form during their fight, though couldn't completely dodge the latter's chakra shroud. It also allows Sasuke to perfectly mimic a person's movements and even copy their techniques into his own arsenal, provided he is physically able to as using Rock Lee's taijutsu proved physically taxing until after he further conditioned himself.

His Sharingan can also cast powerful genjutsu through eye-contact. Throughout Part II, Sasuke has demonstrated formidable dōjutsu illusions, able to easily hypnotise his adversaries to restrict movements, relaying recorded memories, applying deceptive imagery, inducing hallucinations shocking enough to stir the emotions of even someone like Sai, and even easily quelling Jūgo's violent impulses. Defensively, Sasuke was able to stop Orochimaru's attempt to possess the former's body, erode the dimensional space used for the Sannin's Living Corpse Reincarnation technique and ultimately turn it against him. Also, despite wielding a lesser dōjutsu, Sasuke's substantial ocular prowess would prove strong enough to dispel a genjutsu as powerful as Itachi's Tsukuyomi. Likewise, Tobi noted that Sasuke's resourcefulness and precise timing is able to easily catch his opponents off-guard in his illusions. More prominent examples of his aptitude for Sharingan genjutsu was his ability to enter Naruto's subconscious to effectively suppress Kurama's chakra, along with his complete control over Manda showing his potential to use the dōjutsu's most potent power to subjugate the tailed beasts.

Mangekyō Sharingan

SasukeMangekyo

Sasuke's Mangekyō Sharingan.

Sasuke awakened his Mangekyō Sharingan after the death of his older brother, Itachi. The tomoe of Sasuke's Mangekyō spread and converge along the edge of its iris, taking on the appearance of three intersecting ellipses. Following the acquisition of his brother's eyes, Sasuke's Mangekyō pattern changed, gaining a symmetrical, more aligned rendition of Itachi's Mangekyō tomoe that is centred within Sasuke's own. According to Madara, the pattern of Sasuke's Mangekyō is known as the "Straight Tomoe", which gives Sasuke an even higher capability of reading his opponents movements and to fluidly act upon.

Customary of the Mangekyō Sharingan, prolonged reliance upon its ocular powers places a great burden on his eyes and body, deteriorating his vision after each use. Despite the danger of regular use, Sasuke has not hesitated to test his limits with the power it affords. After his fight with Killer B, Sasuke began to find his vision sporadically fading. During his confrontation with Kakashi, the excessive usage of his Mangekyō Sharingan led to the repercussions becoming more prominent as Sasuke began reeling from overexertion, resulting in his eyesight being reduced to a heavy blur. Out of respect for his older brother's views, Sasuke initially refused to take Itachi's Mangekyō Sharingan as his own to avoid blindness, but faced with this and Naruto's unyielding convictions, he finally requested that Tobi transplant them. This resulted in Sasuke's acquisition of the Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan; obtaining additional might from Itachi's ocular power and showing none of the previous signs of physical strain, diminished sight, or fatigue that plagued him from sustained use of this dōjutsu.

Sasuke EMS Anime Closeup

Sasuke's Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan.

With his left Mangekyō, he is able to cast the unquenchable black flames of Amaterasu, which ignites at the focal point of his sight. With his right Mangekyō, Sasuke is able to cast Blaze Release: Kagutsuchi to extinguish and manipulate the flames at will. Sasuke's use of these black flames are said to surpass Itachi's.

After awakening the powers of both Mangekyō Sharingan, Sasuke became one of the few Uchiha capable of invoking Susanoo; the materialisation of an immense humanoid construct of chakra. His extreme emotions have been the root of its development. While initially relying upon different partial manifestations, Sasuke was soon able to complete his Susanoo's body. It can produce a Susanoo Sword, Susanoo Bow that doubles as a shield, and an orb of chakra that conjures the arrows. Defensively it ribcage, in its incomplete stage it was able to take a barrage from Gaara, Kankuro, Temari and Darui undamaged. Offensively, his Susanoo's fist and various weapons are strong enough to destroy many large stone pillars with a single attack and its arrows move at speeds only Sage Mode users such as Kabuto Yakushi can avoid. Sasuke's "final" Susanoo developed during his skirmish against Kakashi, becoming a similar yet more sinister version of Itachi's own final Susanoo and changing the composition of its orb of chakra to that of Amaterasu's black flames from which he is able to fashion a number of weapons.

Susanoo Gallery

Following the recovery of Itachi's transplant, the final stage of his Susanoo underwent a drastic change, with scaled hands, a beak-like hood and a larger bow, with a more shield-like appearance, giving it an overall more intimidating appearance. By the time of the Fourth Shinobi World War, Sasuke was able to conjure his Susanoo in a considerably larger size and complete with a lower body and legs. Using Jūgo's Sage Transformation, Sasuke is able to infuse his Susanoo with senjutsu chakra, which appears as the flame pattern of the Cursed Seal of Heaven covering it. Upon further syncing with Naruto as well as more experience with his Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan, Sasuke is able to stabilise Susanoo's final form and arm it onto Naruto's senjutsu-enhanced Tailed Beast Mode, enabling them to cut through Obito Uchiha, and his Sword of Nunoboko. After further adjusting with the power of the Sage of Six Paths, Sasuke was able to advance his Susanoo to a stabilised version. This Susanoo was capable of fending off Madara Uchiha's Chibaku Tensei technique. and has also been shown to be able to protect those inside of it from the Infinite Tsukuyomi as its light can not penetrate through its chakra body.

Rinnegan

Sasuke's colored Rinnegan

Sasuke's Rinnegan.

After receiving half of the Sage of the Six Paths' chakra, Sasuke awakened the Rinnegan in his left eye. Unlike Hagoromo's Rinnegan, Sasuke's Rinnegan possesses a secondary state with six tomoe, bearing a slight resemblance to Kaguya's third eye. With it, Sasuke gains the ability to touch Madara Uchiha's Chakra Disruption Blades without suffering their after effects. He is also able to see otherwise invisible targets, and moreover, has gained the ability to teleport himself and anyone near him as well as inanimate objects within a limited range. Despite his left eye being a Rinnegan, he still retains all of his Sharingan and Mangekyou Sharingan powers. Like other utilizers of the Rinnegan, Sasuke can wield the powers of the Six Paths Technique. He utilized Deva Path to individually seal away the Tailed Beasts within seperate Chibaku Tensei and Preta Path to absorb one's chakra through physical contact. By using Susano'o as a vessel, he can absorb and contain the Tailed Beasts' chakra. Kurama noted that he was able to reach Hagoromo's level of chakra control by doing so. Years later, he could open portals to traverse across dimensions and planets. Black Zetsu also alluded that Sasuke's Rinnegan may be the reason for why he was able resist the influence of the Infinite Tsukuyomi. However, when drained of his chakra, Sasuke's Rinnegan temporarily loses its six tomoe and he is unable to utilize the Mangekyou Sharingan as a result.

Chakra

Even by Uchiha standards, Sasuke has exceptionally strong chakra which stems from being the current reincarnation of his ancestor, Indra, inheriting his strong spiritual energy. At age 7, he was already able to use his clan's Fire Release: Great Fireball Technique. This later surprised even Kakashi, as such techniques usually require more developed chakra. In Part II, his reserves grew considerably greater. Even in an extremely weakened state, he could summon Manda, a high-level summon (though he may have used Orochimaru's chakra). After developing his Mangekyō Sharingan, despite Sasuke recklessly used it multiple times in a single day among other chakra-consuming techniques, he still fought effectively in multiple consecutive battles against four of the Kage, Danzō and later Team 7 before finally succumbing to exhaustion. After gaining Itachi's eyes, Sasuke's reserves appear to have grown even further, as during the battles against Kabuto and later battling in the Fourth Shinobi World War Shinobi Alliance against several powerful enemies where he was visibly unaffected from using several high-level techniques.

Quality-wise, Sasuke's chakra is very powerful: its strength is compared to that of Madara Uchiha's, whose chakra was particularly strong even amongst the Uchiha. When Sasuke first arrived at the Land of Sound and gave Kabuto a frightening glare, both he and Orochimaru noted Sasuke's exceptional chakra. His chakra's strength was even great enough to break free from Danzō's restraining seal. Likewise, his chakra control has also grown considerably. With many high-level techniques, usually lightning and fire-based, he can perform them with few to no hand seals, giving his opponents little time to react. Due to the curse of his clan, Sasuke continued to sink deeper into darkness, which caused his chakra to become noticeably darker. Even Kurama noted that Sasuke's chakra has become even darker than its own, and even similar to that of Madara. Karin has also mentioned that Sasuke's chakra, as he approached the point of manifesting Susanoo, had become even darker, and colder than the corrupting influence of the second stage Cursed Seal of Heaven, and has since continued to grow even more potent along with the development of Susanoo. After meeting the spirit of Hagoromo Ōtsutsuki, the legendary sage gave Sasuke half of his power.

Intelligence

From a young age, Sasuke has repeatedly shown keen instincts and quick decision-making skills, causing many to consider him a genius. Able to easily learn various advanced techniques or utilise basic ones for crafty manoeuvres, Sasuke already became a stand-out before graduating the Academy. He is a proficient strategist and tactician, observing his opponent's skills and deducing their workings with ease and accuracy whilst remaining calm and composed. He then chooses the most effective means and ninjutsu to counter them. Against crafty opponents like Deidara, Sasuke can quickly decipher the mechanisms behind their abilities and properly find the right counter. His resolution also enables him to pick strategies in which he requires getting injured in order to defeat the enemy, showing tremendous endurance and willpower. He has also proven capable of tricking older, more experienced shinobi like Danzō into confirming the mechanics of their techniques. Likewise, Sasuke has shown able to use even basic illusions to dangerous effect, tricking his opponent into letting their guard down. Even Madara and Minato have noted Sasuke's ability to calmly assess and analyse the given situation, with Madara also noting Sasuke's great battle sense. Sasuke is also a very capable leader, able to form a team from specific ninja after scouting them out and quickly command their respect and cooperation. Furthermore, he can effectively instruct his team to engage an enemy. He also showed the ability to perform a series of precise and coordinated attacks with his brother Itachi with minimal planning despite their previous volatile relationship. Upon reuniting with Naruto after their talk with Hagoromo, he was able to work effectively in tandem with Naruto to combat Madara, further showcasing his ability to be an effective team-mate.

He can develop many powerful techniques on his own, all based on the one technique he learned from another. From Rock Lee's techniques, Sasuke created different techniques of similar affect. From the Chidori, Sasuke mastered the principles of Lightning Release, and created many innovative techniques. He can also use his techniques as setups for his larger-scale one, such as Kirin. Sasuke is a proficient researcher, having done so to defeat Orochimaru and his various abilities, such as the nature of his snake summons and techniques as well as his unique cursed seals. With this knowledge, he was able to resurrect the Sannin using a combination of Anko's cursed seal, a piece of Kabuto's altered body and a special fūinjutsu. Sasuke was also able to use his Sharingan to perfectly sync his chakra with Naruto's to perform the Scorch Release: Halo Gale Jet Black Arrow Style Zero, something Tobirama claimed even the most experienced duo have difficulty achieving. Sasuke was also able to track Itachi even though the latter used a flock of crows to block his vision.

Sasuke was able to use his Rinnegan very effectively against Madara despite only having obtained it recently and was still experimenting with its powers.

Other Skills

Under Orochimaru's training, Sasuke was subjected to the Sannin's experiments and as a result developed physical enhancements including an immunity towards most forms of poisons, to a level that the one Sakura learned from Shizune would not affect him. However, he was not immune to the effects of Orochimaru's true form's poisonous blood. After absorbing Orochimaru, Sasuke gained access to Sannin's regenerative powers that allowed him to heal at a much faster rate than usual, and access Orochimaru's chakra as extra reserves, although he preferred not to. He could also use the Orochimaru-Style Body Replacement Technique to shed his skin and produce a new body, thus repairing any damage he sustained, though it drained him of much of his chakra.

His training has also given him great skill in fūinjutsu and is also otherwise quite knowledgeable in other seals, such as Orochimaru's cursed seals. As an Uchiha, he is also one of the few who can access the Naka Shrine.

Part I

Introduction Arc

Sasuke, Naruto and Sakura are assigned to Team 7 after graduating from the Academy. While Naruto was dismayed and Sakura was delighted to be on the same team as him, Sasuke was indifferent to the arrangement and avoided them. On the day of the arrangement, Sasuke and Naruto accidentally have their first kiss when they got in each other's face in midst of an argument and Naruto was accidentally knocked into Sasuke by a classmate. Jealous of Sakura's affection for Sasuke, Naruto decided to confront Sasuke and steal Sakura's first kiss by disguising himself as Sasuke. While it appeared Naruto succeeded in tying up Sasuke, he actually easily escaped but decided not to confront Naruto due to finding it pointless. Sasuke passes by Sakura, who believed she almost kissed Sasuke earlier but unaware it was actually Naruto. Sasuke asks where Naruto is but she tells him not to mind Naruto and offends Sasuke by making fun of Naruto for being an orphan and he is lucky to have no parents. Sasuke calls her annoying and walks away from a shocked Sakura.

After a long wait, Sasuke and his team-mates meet their teacher, Kakashi, who, during their introductions, takes an interest in Sasuke after he reveals his goal to kill a certain someone. The next day, as they undergo a bell test, Sasuke hides while he and sakura watch Naruto directly confront Kakashi and easily get defeated. Sasuke tries to ambush Kakashi with shurikenjutsu but fails. Sasuke shows concern when he hears Sakura scream but finds it not a surprise she fell for Kakashi's genjutsu. After declaring he is different from Naruto and Sakura and demonstrating this by using Fire Release and excellent taijutsu, Sasuke manages to touch a bell but Kakashi still defeats him and buries him to the neck in the dirt, all the while complimenting Sasuke for his skills. Sakura finds Sasuke and passes out over the sight of his "severed head", much to Sasuke's confusion. When she wakes up, he is by her side and she hugs him, causing him to freak out and tell her not to hug him. Sasuke decides to find Kakashi for another chance, but when Sakura suggests they try again next year, Sasuke replies that is not an option because he is an avenger. With their session over with, Kakashi allows Sasuke and Sakura to eat lunch but forbids them from feeding Naruto. Sasuke goes against Kakashi's orders and offers his lunch to Naruto, over Sakura's protests, because they need to get the bells and Naruto being hungry will slow them down. Kakashi seemingly is about to punish them for this but surprises them by telling them they passed and explains the purpose of the test was to test their ability to work together as a team.

Land of Waves Arc

Team 7

After several meaningless D-rank missions, Naruto secures the team their first C-rank mission: escorting the bridge builder, Tazuna, to his home in the poverty-stricken Land of Waves. Soon after setting out, they are attacked by the Demon Brothers, whom Sasuke easily defeats with excellent taijutsu. Sasuke mocks Naruto for getting frightened and calls him a "scaredy-cat". They are later attacked by Zabuza, leading to a fight between him and Kakashi. Sasuke suffers a crisis as he gets caught up in the battle but resolves to fight. After Zabuza is seemingly killed by Haku, Kakashi has Sasuke, Naruto, and Sakura undergo a tree-climbing exercise by controlling their chakra. Sasuke manages to make it half way to the tree on his first try but finds it difficult. After some time, Naruto starts catching up to him due to advice he got from Sakura, who passed the exercise on her first try. Sasuke asks Naruto what advice did Sakura give him and Naruto mocks him by refusing to say. By night time, both succeed in reaching the top of the tree and head back. The next morning, Sasuke goes with Kakashi, Sakura, and Tazuna to resume the escort duty. They are attacked by Zabuza and Haku, who notes Sasuke's great speed and abilities, and traps in ice mirrors. While Sasuke is analyzing the way Haku's abilities work, he relieved when Naruto arrives to help but he is then dismayed when Naruto enters in the ice mirrors prison to ask Sasuke what the situation is. Awakening his Sharingan for the first time in years, Sasuke is able to see Haku's movements and comes up with a plan with Naruto defeat him. While Naruto distracts Haku with shadow clones, Sasuke uses Fire Release to land a hit on Haku. While this initially works, their efforts are otherwise futile. Haku unleashes hundreds of needles towards an unconscious Naruto and Sasuke gets in front of him to shield him.

Sasuke protects Naruto

Sasuke protects Naruto

When he wakes up, Naruto asks Sasuke why he did what he did and Sasuke says his body moved on its own before he collapses in Naruto's arms. Sasuke tells Naruto his vow to never die until he killed his brother and asks Naruto to never let his dream of becoming Hokage die. Sasuke seemingly dies from his injuries, causing Naruto to tap into the Nine-Tails' chakra. It turns out that Sasuke was put into a temporary death-like state, and when he wakes up, he finds Sakura crying over him in relief that he is alright and he silently lets Naruto know is alright. With Haku and Zabuza both dead, the mission is complete and Team 7 returns to Konoha.

Chūnin Exam Arc

Because of their success in the mission at the Land of the Waves, Kakashi signs them up for the Chunin Exams. Upon arriving at the exam building, Sasuke is challenged to a fight by Rock Lee. Despite his speed and abilities, Sasuke is unable to keep up with Lee who's specialty in taijutsu proves to be a disadvantage to Sasuke. Once the fight is over, Sasuke is humilated to have been defeated by a loser like Lee but he, naruto, and Sakura become disgusted by Might Guy's resemblance to Lee andGuy's emotional punishment to Lee. As they try to enter the exam room, Sasuke and Sakura are able to undo a genjutsu done by two genin who tried to discourage other genin teams from taking the first test. For the first phrase, they were required to take a written test. Sasuke finds the questions too difficult for anyone to know and is unable to answer any of them. He later deduces that the purpose of the test was for everyone to cheat without getting caught. Sasuke uses his Sharingan to copy pencils movements from other participating teams.

In the second test of the Chūnin Exams in the Forest of Death, Sasuke and his team are given a scroll and told the purpose is to collect an identical scroll from another team. After being attacked by another genin team that attempted to steal their scroll by disguising as Naruto, Sasuke comes up with a difficult password so that he, Naruto, and Sakura can confirm their identities. After splitting up, they regroup and when Naruto confirms the password, Sasuke knows Naruto could have never remembered the password and attacks the imposter, revealing him to be a Kusagakure genin Shiore (who is actually the missing-nin Orochimaru). Shiore casts a genjutsu of massive killing intent on Sasuke and Sakura, which freezes them in fear. As Shiore approaches them with the intent of finishing them off, Sasuke, wanting to save Sakura and himself from danger, stabs himself in the leg to break free from the fear and grabs Sakura, and they go into hiding. They are then found by Shiore when Naruto finally arrives and, fearful of Shiore's strength, Sasuke offers the scroll in exchange for Shiore leaving them in peace, over Naruto's protests. When Naruto refuses to hand the scroll over, Sasuke berates him for trying to be a hero but Naruto punches Sasuke down and berates him for being a coward. After naruto is defeated by Shiore, Sakura berates Sasuke for being a coward, causing Sasuke to fight back against Shiore, who manages to bite him on the neck and infect him with the Cursed Seal of Heaven. Sasuke screams from the pain and passes out in Sakura's arms. When he finally regains consciousness, he is under the cursed seal's influence and feels exhilaration by his new powers. He becomes enraged when he sees sakura badly injured and repeatedly demands for her to tell him who did this to her. One of the culprits mockingly confesses, leading sasuke to violently break the arms of the culprit and was about to do the same to his team-mates until Sakura hugged him from behind and pleaded for him to stop, causing the cursed seal to recede. In a flashback detailed Part II, Sasuke is revealed to have met Karin while saving her from a bear, letting her be as he didn't need her scroll.

Sasuke's match up in the preliminaries was against Yoroi Akadō. Before the fight started, Kakashi warned Sasuke that, if his cursed seal got out of control, which would happen if he used any chakra, he would need to be removed from the competition. The match started with Yoroi absorbing what little chakra Sasuke had left through his hands, and with Sasuke being in constant pain from his cursed seal. Having only one option, and remembering his previous encounter with Rock Lee, Sasuke used the Lion Combo. Yoroi was knocked out, and Sasuke advanced to the next round.

Following his win, Kakashi took Sasuke away to seal the cursed seal, but made it a point to tell him that the seal would only remain active as long as Sasuke wanted it to. Not convinced that his words would deter Sasuke from using the cursed seal, and turning to Orochimaru, Kakashi used the month leading up to the final rounds to teach him the Chidori. At the same time, knowing Sasuke would be facing Gaara, he helped Sasuke to emulate some of Lee's speed. After showing up late for his match with Gaara, Sasuke demonstrated the fruits of his training, even managing to break through Gaara's defences and injure him. Before the match could finish, however, it was interrupted by the start of Orochimaru's attack on Konoha.

Invasion of Konoha Arc

With the start of the invasion, Gaara fled the village with his siblings, and Sasuke was sent after them by Genma. Sasuke chased them and, after short battles with Kankuro and Temari, caught up with Gaara before fighting him again. However, Gaara utilises his jinchūriki powers to overpower Sasuke, who is protected by Sakura until she is captured by Gaara's sand before Naruto arrives and helps battle Gaara. When sakura is nearly suffocated by Gaara's sand, Sasuke tells Naruto to do everything in his power to save Sakura because he doesn't want to see another precious person be lost in front of him again. Naruto succeeds in getting Gaara to focus on him and let Sasuke rescue Sakura, and showing concern for Sakura, Sasuke asks Pakkun to take care of Sakura before rejoininng the fight. However, he finds that Naruto had already defeated Gaara. Sasuke later attending The Third Hokage's funeral with his team-mates and the rest of Konoha. In a flashback, Sasuke remembers when Sakura thanked him for saving her from Gaara but Sasuke said it was Naruto who saved her. As she smiles at Naruto, Sasuke becomes jealous and scowls at the attention Sakura is giving Naruto and at Naruto's growing strength.

Search for Tsunade Arc

After the failed invasion, Sasuke went to see Kakashi, and later was seen reading the stone tablet in the Naka Shrine. When he arrived at Kakashi's house to see him again, he found his teacher in a coma. Although nobody in the room was willing to tell Sasuke of what had happened, Aoba Yamashiro soon arrived and let slip that Itachi had returned to the village in search of Naruto. Determined to find Itachi, Sasuke tracks Naruto down and finds his brother there. Despite his best efforts, including the use of Chidori, none of his attacks were able to hit Itachi. Itachi tormented Sasuke physically and mentally, belittling him for still being too weak, eventually leaving Sasuke with a broken wrist and mind. Sasuke then fell into the same Tsukuyomi-induced coma as Kakashi and remained unconscious until Naruto brought Tsunade to Konoha. After she healed him, Sasuke woke up and a relieved Sakura embraced him.

Sasuke Retrieval Arc

Sasuke and Sakura ThankYou

Sasuke thanking Sakura

Motivated by anger over Itachi still being stronger, and his jealously at Naruto for becoming stronger in a short period of time, Sasuke starts treating Naruto with contempt and ignoring Sakura as she tends to him. Despite still recovering from his encounter with Itachi, Sasuke forces Naruto into fighting him. Naruto initially refuses but agrees after pressure from Sasuke, who refused to wear his headband protector because he doesn't recognize Naruto as an equal and accuses him of acting "all high and mighty". They then start to fight and were about to end it with Sasuke and Naruto using Chidori and Rasengan respectively before Kakashi stops the two as they use their strongest attacks on each other. Although thinking his Chidori did the most damage to a nearby water tower, Sasuke is shocked and angry to find Naruto's Rasengan obliterated one whole side of it without the structure being compromised. Kakashi restrained Sasuke and lectured him how revenge will gain him nothing but emptiness and loneliness, but Sasuke refused to listen and asks Kakashi how would he feel if all his loved ones died, to which Kakashi shocked him by replying all his friends were already dead. Kakashi then explains that sacrificing his friends for the sake of getting revenge is worse than the pain of losing his family. Because of Kakashi's words, Sasuke is conflicted with his desire for revenge versus his friendship with Naruto and Sakura. Just as he is about to give up on revenge, Sasuke was confronted by Orochimaru's Sound Four, who have been sent to bring to him to Orochimaru. They leave Sasuke with the offer to come with them if he wishes to use his cursed seal's true potential. Deciding to take Orochimaru up on his offer, Sasuke is about to leave Konoha and runs into Sakura, who had suspected he would leave. After telling her to go home and refusing to answer her questions about his actions, they talk about the time he first called her annoying when they were teamed up together. Sasuke tells Sakura he could have chosen a peaceful life with her and their friends in Konoha but decided revenge was more important to him. Growing desperate, a tearful Sakura pleaded with Sasuke to stay and confessed she is in love with him. She offered him to stay or let her go with him as long as she can make him happy. Although appearing grateful, Sasuke feigned indifference and called her annoying. When Sakura threatened to alert the village of his betrayal, Sasuke appeared behind her and knocked her out but not before thanking her for everything she's done for him and left her on a bench. He then joins up with the Sound Four, who soon afterwards advanced his cursed seal to its second level, a process that left him unconscious for most of their battle with the Sasuke Retrieval Team.

Soon after Sasuke woke up, he ran his way towards the Valley of the End where he is found by Naruto, who had learned Orochimaru's intent to turn Sasuke into his next host from the Sound Four. Naruto asks Sasuke if he is really willing to turn his back on their friends for the sake of getting stronger, which Sasuke confirms. Naruto is further outraged when Sasuke reacts with indifference that their friends risked their lives to find him. Leading into a heated fight, Naruto asks Sasuke if he is willing to throw his life away and allow Orochimaru to take over his body, and Sasuke says he could care less if Orochimaru takes his body and he no longer wants anything to do with everyone and Konoha because they made him weak. As they continued fighting, Sasuke shouts at Naruto for talking about taking him back to Konoha because Naruto doesnt know the anguish Sasuke is going through due to Naruto never having a family or experiencing the loss of a loved one. Naruto sympathizes with Sasuke for this but kept his resolve to bring Sasuke back to Konoha and asks Sasuke if their time on Team 7 meant anything to him. Sasuke says it did and he had come to consider Naruto as his best friend. Knowing killing his closest friend will allow him to gain the Magekyo Sharingan, Sasuke announces his choice to kill Naruto. Naruto refused to let this happen and began to take the fight seriously. Sasuke asked Naruto why he would go so far for him and Naruto says Sasuke is the first person he felt a bond with and considers him as a brother, leading Sasuke to declare he will sever that bond. With Sasuke gloating that Naruto can not even make a scratch on his forehead protector, he initially having the upper hand thanks to his cursed seal and Sharingan. When he managed to pierce Naruto's right shoulder with his Chidori, however, the Nine-Tails' chakra surfaces to protect Naruto, giving him a massive power increase as he attempts to knock some sense into him. Sasuke again merely retorted that Naruto could never understand losing a family as he had never had one to begin with, despite Naruto feeling that Sasuke is like a brother to him and refuses to let him sever that bond. Sasuke's Sharingan evolved to its final stage at that point, tipping the battle in Sasuke's favour with Sasuke now being able to predict Naruto's movements. However, Naruto's Nine-Tails' chakra envelops him in a fox-shaped shield of chakra.

Sasuke and Naruto clash

In response, Sasuke activated the second stage of his cursed seal as both he and Naruto clash with their respective empowered attacks. Clashing with the dome produced from the conflicting energies, Sasuke defeats Naruto with a punch to the chest rather than what remained of Chidori. But before the dome dissipates while losing consciousness, Naruto managed to scratch Sasuke's forehead protector as it falls off of him. Though considering to kill Naruto then and now, Sasuke begins to have second thoughts and resolves to find his own way to surpass Itachi. Leaving behind his scratched forehead protector, which had fallen off after Naruto's last attack, Sasuke made his way to Orochimaru, who decides to train Sasuke until the time to make the youth his new host comes.

Part II

Sasuke and Sai Arc

20130124200724!Sasuke Uchiha Shippuden

Sasuke Uchiha (part 2)

Almost three years after leaving Konoha, Sasuke meets his replacement in the renamed Team Kakashi, Sai. Despite a lack of interest in Sai, Sasuke is inadvertently provoked and subjects Sai to a genjutsu exuding a large amount of killing intent. Sai is amazed that even an emotionless person such as himself was affected by Sasuke's gaze, channelling through his Sharingan. When Sai comments on how Naruto and Sakura have been searching for him, Sasuke once again regards him with indifference in attitude. Later, when Team Kakashi infiltrates one of Orochimaru's hideouts successfully under the leadership of Yamato, Sai, acting on his own, locates and enters Sasuke's room while he was resting in a bid to assassinate him as ordered by his superior in Konoha's Root faction, Danzō Shimura.

However, after spending quality time in Team Kakashi, especially with Naruto, Sai comes to understand the meaning of bonds of friendship, and decides to help Naruto save him. However, enraged on being disturbed, Sasuke destroys the room, drawing Naruto, Sakura and Yamato to their location. Despite this being the first time in nearly three years that they had seen each other, Sasuke expresses his usual indifference towards his former team. Yamato tells Sasuke about how Naruto and Sakura still consider him a comrade, and Sasuke replies he understands and that is the reason why he severed his bond with them. Enraged, Naruto asks Sasuke why he didn't kill him when they first fought. Sasuke says he didn't want to do what Itachi wanted him to do and he spared Naruto on a whim, but he intends to kill Naruto for good, drawing out his sword. Yamato and Sai intercept his attack but Sasuke electrocutes all three of them and prepares to counter Sakura's attack before Yamato takes the blow for her.

Sasuke Uchiha

In Naruto Shippuden at 15 years old

To the surprise of both Naruto and Kurama, Sasuke uses his heightened prowess of his Sharingan to enter Naruto's subconscious to meet the Nine-Tails itself, finally discovering the true source of Naruto's strength. Kurama appears to be impressed with Sasuke's growth and ability as it states his chakra being as "sinister" as Madara Uchiha's. Sasuke coldly dismisses knowing such a person and uses his Sharingan to suppress Kurama back into its sealed cage. Kurama concludes that this would probably be its last meeting with Sasuke, so it warns him not to kill Naruto, for he would only end up regretting it. Back outside, Sasuke decides to finish off his former team-mates, starting with Naruto, only to be stopped by Orochimaru as the prospect of them and other Konoha shinobi thinning out the Akatsuki would make his revenge easier. Accepting the notion, Sasuke leaves with Kabuto and Orochimaru.

Itachi Pursuit Arc

Some time later, Orochimaru tests Sasuke's abilities by having him battle hundreds of Otogakure ninja with no compassion or mercy, a task he completes without taking a scratch and without killing any of them. When inquired about why he refused to kill his opponents, Sasuke remarks that the only person he wants to kill is his brother, Itachi, and leaves to his training room. Soon afterwards, as Orochimaru reaches the limit of his present "vessel" containing his soul, which starts degrading his health, he is notified by Kabuto that the time for his ritual to take over Sasuke's body is near. As Kabuto leaves to get some medicine, a vulnerable Orochimaru is unexpectedly attacked by Sasuke, who deems Orochimaru too weak to be worthy of having his body or the Sharingan. Sasuke also says he no longer needs to learn anything from Orochimaru, having come to believe he is strong enough to defeat Itachi, and admits how much he despises Orochimaru. Although Sasuke appears victorious after a brief scuffle with Orochimaru's true snake-form, he is nevertheless brought to Orochimaru's subconscious for his Living Corpse Reincarnation. Having severely underestimated Sasuke, it is Orochimaru, in turn, who is absorbed to a dormant state within Sasuke, who is able to reverse the process using his Sharingan and hence, gains access to all of Orochimaru's abilities.

TakaHebi

Hebi.

With Orochimaru gone, Sasuke goes ahead with his plan to locate and kill Itachi, by first recruiting some of Orochimaru's former test subjects — Suigetsu Hōzuki, Karin, and Jūgo — on the pretext of granting them virtues for their themselves after the success of their mission (Suigetsu wants to obtain Samehada by killing Itachi's Akatsuki partner, Kisame Hoshigaki; Karin wants to be with Sasuke due to her massive crush on him since their meeting; and, Jūgo wants to see if Sasuke was indeed worth of his dear friend, Kimimaro's sacrifice), and dubs their team Hebi. And immediately afterwards, Sasuke had his team split up and learn of Itachi's potential whereabouts. While searching alone, Sasuke is found by Akatsuki members, Deidara and Tobi, with the former wanting to kill him for defeating Orochimaru himself. Using his Sharingan and lightning-based techniques, Sasuke manages to counter most of Deidara's attacks, which results in Deidara producing his C2 Dragon. Though the C2 Dragon manages to overwhelm Sasuke for a short period of time, he eventually defeats it with the second level of Cursed Seal of Heaven and Chidori Sharp Spear. Sasuke's actions anger Deidara severely, fueling his pre-existing hatred for the Sharingan, stemming from his past encounter with Itachi, even further, which to him could not see or admire his "art". Deidara, revealing this to be his trump card, uses C4 in order to finally kill Sasuke. However, Sasuke pierced himself with Chidori to cancel out the tiny, nano-sized explosives within his bloodstream. Shocking Deidara, Sasuke appears behind him and punches him with extreme force, effectively defeating the Akatsuki member, who has depleted his chakra supply. As a last ditch effort, Deidara uses C0 to try blowing himself up along with Sasuke in a titanic explosion, which obliterates everything in the nearby vicinity. Sasuke, however, summons Manda in time and uses his Sharingan to have the great serpent shield and jump the both of them to safety. Unfortunately, just they were able to jump to the Ryūchi Cave, both Manda and Sasuke were hit by the shockwave of the blast, which killed Manda. Shortly after that, Sasuke signaled Suigetsu to summon Manda with Sasuke still inside of it to reunited and group with his team-mates. Later admitting to Karin that he only defeated Orochimaru because he was already weakened after the latter shows disbelief that he could have. After recovering from his wounds, Hebi continues onto one of Akatsuki's lairs, where Sasuke finds a crow clone of Itachi which expresses admiration over Sasuke's growth in power and tells him they will have their battle at the Uchiha Hideout, leaving the rest of Hebi behind to deal with Kisame.

The two brothers then immediately begin a brief taijutsu battle, during which Itachi tells Sasuke the cursed history of their clan and his desire to obtain the flawless Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan by taking Sasuke's eyes. Once he finishes, the brothers first fight in a battle of genjutsu. Sasuke talks about something he had always suspected: Itachi had to have an accomplice to eliminate the entire Uchiha clan. Itachi admitted he did have help from Madara Uchiha, but Sasuke didn't believe him right away due to Madara being dead for many years. As the conversation continued, Sasuke demands the location of Madara so that he can kill him too, but after Itachi declares him to be "immortal", he ensnares Sasuke in a Tsukuyomi, during which Itachi gauges out Sasuke's eye. Sasuke breaks free, much to Itachi's surprise, due to his immense mastery of the Sharingan. With Zetsu witnessing (and "recording") the battle, the two Uchiha begin a battle of ninjutsu. Sasuke and Itachi begin rapidly firing Shuriken at one another, which results in a stale mate. Sasuke launched a Fuma Shuriken at Itachi, an attack which should be easy dodge, however, Itachi was wounded and even coughs blood. Notwithstanding Itachi's condition, Sasuke unleashes a fireball, provoking Itachi to jump to the ceiling, where Sasuke then forces him outside with Chidori to do the same. Once outside, the two brothers produce two clashing fireballs. As Sasuke's fire gains on Itachi's, the latter resorts to using his Mangekyō Sharingan technique, Amaterasu.

Sasuke survives using one of Orochimaru's Body Replacement Techniques, and in his cursed seal second state, launches Fire Release: Great Dragon Fire Technique, which creates an artificial weather condition around them, perfectly suitable for Sasuke to attack Itachi with his final lightning technique that uses the power of natural lightning itself: Kirin. But Itachi barely survives, only by his use of the third and final Mangekyō technique, Susanoo. Having used the last of chakra on Kirin, Orochimaru, who has been absorbed and suppressed by Sasuke's chakra, uses this opportunity to reappear in the outer world through one of his Eight Branches Technique in a last attempt to take Sasuke's body for his own. However, before this could happen, Itachi has Susanoo use the Sword of Totsuka to seal him permanently in a genjutsu realm, thereby removing every tint of Orochimaru's being from Sasuke, including the Cursed Seal of Heaven. Cornered by an incoming Itachi, Sasuke watches in horror his brother inevitably aiming for his eyes, but is flabbergasted when, instead, Itachi says a few words and collapses to his death, after poking him in the forehead- something Itachi would regularly do to Sasuke when they were younger. Shocked and exhausted, Sasuke too passes out, albeit with a smile due to the accomplishment of his lifelong mission.

Sasuke wakes up in a cave in the care of Tobi, who quickly reveals himself to be Madara Uchiha. As Tobi tries to befriend Sasuke by removing his mask and revealing his Sharingan, Sasuke's left eye reacts to Tobi's Sharingan and triggers Itachi's Mangekyō Sharingan which casts Amaterasu, setting the masked man on fire, and causing him to retreat into the darkness of the cave. After dispelling the black flames with ease, an unscathed and masked Tobi appears again and begins to muse about how Itachi never ceased to amaze him. As Sasuke asks what he was talking about, Tobi reveals that Itachi had most likely implanted a one-shot Amaterasu in Sasuke's eye to attack if and when he saw Tobi's Sharingan. As Sasuke complains that he is making no sense, Tobi makes startling revelations that it had been to protect him, and, when Sasuke still didn't believe him, Tobi said how it must all sound crazy, but assured him that he was telling the truth, and introduced himself as the man who had helped Itachi to slaughter the entire Uchiha clan.

Tobi reveals to Sasuke the "truth" of Itachi: that he killed his clan by orders from Konoha, how he joined Akatsuki to keep an eye on the organisation from the inside to keep his village and his brother safe, and that everything he had done was to make sure Sasuke grew strong. Remembering his childhood of how Itachi really was a kind, good brother, Sasuke developed his own Mangekyō Sharingan. In despair for his brother's sacrifice, Sasuke renamed Hebi to Taka and vowed he would destroy Konoha after crying over the memories of his beloved older brother

Invasion of Pain Arc

Before Taka, could attack Konoha, Tobi convinced them to start working with Akatsuki. Sasuke makes it clear his intent is to kill the elders for ordering the massacre and he intended to spare the rest of the village residents because they are not part of his revenge. Tobi sent them to the Land of Lightning to capture the Eight-Tails, where they found its host, Killer Bee. The capture attempt got off to a bad start, as Killer B swiftly overpowered both Suigetsu and Jūgo, prompting Sasuke to face B one on one. Sasuke was unable to read Killer B's unique kenjutsu and B ultimately stabbed Sasuke with six swords. Sasuke was rescued and healed by Karin, and the team decided to all attack at once. While they had more success, Killer B released a great deal of the Eight-Tails' chakra and created a chakra cloak. When Sasuke attempted to use a genjutsu to knock B out, the Eight-Tails broke him out of it and B retaliated on the unaware Sasuke with Lariat, using the Eight-Tails' power to blow Sasuke's neck and chest open.

While Sasuke was down, Killer B fully transformed into the beast sealed within him, leaving Taka outclassed. Jūgo healed Sasuke by fusing some of his own flesh with Sasuke's body and Suigetsu allowed the team to flee and protected them from Killer B's Tailed Beast Ball. Fearing the deaths of he and his team-mates, Sasuke unleashed his new Mangekyō Sharingan and Amaterasu to capture Killer B.

Sasuke delivered Killer B to Tobi before regrouping with Taka. It is revealed that in an earlier, secret conversation with Tobi, Sasuke admitted that he doesn't intend to kill just the villagers but all of the Konoha residents. He explained that, while Itachi wanted him to respect his desire to protect the village, Sasuke's grief of losing Itachi and knowing the truth makes it impossible for him to follow in Itachi's footsteps, and he felt everyone in Konoha is just as guilty as the elders for the Uchiha clan's demise for enjoying the peace Itachi sacrificed his life for. While resting, they dealt with J, who had been following them. However, when Sasuke tipped over a glass of water, he learned that his eyesight was already starting to deteriorate. He opted to keep this revelation from the team. Sasuke and Jūgo later caught J spying on their hideout and presumably killed him before abandoning the hideout.

Five Kage Summit Arc

Team Taka on the move

Taka heading towards Konoha.

Once Taka recovered from their battle with Killer B, they headed for Konoha, but are intercepted by Tobi. He informed Taka about the destruction of Konoha and their failure in capturing the Eight-Tails which had been revealed to be nothing more than a transformed tentacle. Although he had warned the group they would be killed for betraying the Akatsuki, Tobi was willing to let the matter slide if they completed another mission. He told them about Danzō Shimura becoming Hokage and the Kage Summit. Sasuke quickly decides he wants to kill Danzo in order to exact revenge and Taka was led to the Land of Iron, where the summit was held, by White Zetsu.

Sasuke vs the Raikage anime

Sasuke and A clashing

Taka managed to infiltrate the summit without being detected, but their cover was blown by Zetsu, on orders from Tobi. Forced out of hiding, Sasuke engaged the samurai guards and slaughtered them despite his previous strict no-kill policy, due to having fallen into the Curse of Hatred. A, still under the impression that Sasuke has killed his younger brother Killer B, confronted Taka together with his escorts. While Suigetsu and Jūgo encountered the Raikage and Darui, Sasuke managed to take out Cee with his Genjutsu: Sharingan. With C incapacitated and Jūgo defeated, Sasuke then faced off against the Raikage. During the ensuing clash, Sasuke dodged A's Elbow and managed to pierce A with Chidori, despite A's Lightning Release Armour. Despite Sasuke's efforts, A responded with Liger Bomb, though Sasuke managed to protect himself with the ribcage of the Susanoo. Sasuke covered his Susanoo with Amaterasu flames, which resulted in A losing an arm.

Sand Siblings fight Sasuke Uchiha

Sasuke in the Summit

As the Raikage was about to deliver the final blow, Sasuke manipulated the black flames to attack A. However, A was saved by The Fifth Kazekage, and his escorts. After seeing how dark Sasuke had become, the Kazekage attempted to convince Sasuke to give himself up, though Sasuke replied that there is nothing that could stop him from achieving his vengeance and he had closed his eyes off from the light a long time ago because his goals now exist in darkness. Shedding a tear for his former rival, Gaara collaborated with Kankurō, Temari, and Darui to attack Sasuke. However, Sasuke used his incomplete Susanoo to defend himself, create a distraction and escape with Karin, leaving Suigetsu and Jūgo to fend for themselves.

Karin guided Sasuke to the room where the Summit was held, but before he could engage Danzō, Sasuke was confronted by Mifune. In the meanwhile, Danzō managed to escape, but the Fifth Mizukage prevented Sasuke from pursuing him. Though he was exhausted due to the previous battles, Sasuke managed to gather enough strength to briefly fight against the Mizukage. Sasuke was ready to pass out, but was reinvigorated by Zetsu's Spore Technique. He escaped from the Mizukage, only to be confronted by the Third Tsuchikage. He was just barely saved by Tobi, who pulled him and Karin into another dimension using his Sharingan, where Karin nursed Sasuke back to health.

Vacuum Sphere Anime

Sasuke battles Danzō.

Tobi brought Sasuke out in front of Danzō, who immediately attacked the young Uchiha. Sasuke grabbed Danzō with the arm of his Susanoo and interrogated him about the truth of Itachi. Once he realised that Danzō had in fact ordered Itachi to slaughter the Uchiha clan, he immediately crushed the elder to death. However, Danzō appears behind him completely unharmed and ready to fight. Sasuke managed to kill Danzō with a variety of methods, although every time, Danzō was revived unharmed.

Sasuke, overtaken by his lust for revenge, advances his Susanoo to it's complete form, which is able to fire arrows. Tobi realises that Danzō is using Izanagi, which allowed him to avoid fatal injury and rewrite history as he saw fit. Danzō summoned Baku in order to stop Sasuke, however Sasuke managed to defeat the summoning monster with Fire Release: Great Fireball Technique. Sasuke managed to kill Danzō a few more times with different methods before coming to a stale mate. Each determined to kill the other, they clash again, Danzō, with Wind Release: Vacuum Blade and Sasuke with Chidori, as well as Danzō relying on Izanagi to save him. Sasuke, however, had used a genjutsu to only create the illusion that Izanagi was still active, allowing him to mortally wound Danzō. Danzō takes Karin hostage in an attempt to buy time, but Sasuke had no hesitations in fatally wounding Karin in order to finish off Danzō. Sasuke proceeds to tell a shocked Karin that she became a burden to him for getting taken hostage so easily. A mortally wounded Danzo tried to flee as Sasuke calmly walked behind him to finish him off for good. Intercepted by Tobi, Danzo committed suicide and tried to take Sasuke and Tobi with him but both escaped.

With his revenge fulfilled, Sasuke declared his plans to go to Konoha. However, Tobi pointed out that Sasuke was exhausted and near blindness. He also told Sasuke to kill Karin if she was no longer of any use, before leaving himself. As Sasuke was about to kill Karin, Sakura suddenly appeared and interrupted him. She told him that she was willing to follow him, even if it meant abandoning and even destroying Konoha. Sasuke was skeptical and told Sakura to kill Karin to prove her loyalty but as Sakura hesitated, Sasuke turned behind her and was about to strike her with Chidori. Kakashi stopped the attack and noted the intensity of the Chidori meant Sasuke was serious about trying to kill her. Kakashi tries to get Sasuke to give up his vengeance but Sasuke laughed at him and said he would give up if his clan was brought back to him, and he was eager to kill Kakashi. After sending Sakura away to heal Karin, Kakashi engaged in a battle against Sasuke. During which, Kakashi pleaded for Sasuke to realize there is more to life than his clan and revenge, but Sasuke became enraged and said he wanted to hear everyone's screams of pain for laughing at Itachi's sacrifice and seeing Kakashi possess the sharingan despite not being a Uchiha made Sasuke want to kill Kakashi more. In his rage, his Susanoo added an extra layer but, to his horror, his Susanoo disappeared due to his eyesight deteriorating. Unknown to him, Sakura attempted to rejoin the fight by sneaking up behind him and try to stab him in the back with a kunai.

However, Sakura ultimately cannot bring herself to kill Sasuke. Though near blind, Sasuke senses her, seizes her by the throat, and is about to kill her with her own kunai, but she is saved by Naruto. Naruto asks Sasuke why he would attack Sakura, to which Sasuke replies he is no longer part of the team and he sees each and every one of them as part of the village that killed his clan. Naruto sympathizes with Sasuke for his actions, and this angered Sasuke, who called Naruto an "outsider" for not knowing the pain of losing a family. Sakura scolded Sasuke for his words and reminding him that Naruto still considers him a friend and wants to save him from revenge. Sasuke was indifferent to her words and Sasuke cynically counters with his pleasure of gaining his revenge, as well as revealing his crime of murdering Danzō. In his unstable state of mind, Sasuke declares he will not only kill all of them but destroy the village to restore the Uchiha clan's honor. Kakashi tried to deal with Sasuke on his own but Naruto restrained him and clashed his Rasengan with Sasuke's Chidori. As the clash, Naruto tells Sasuke their roles could have been reversed; as their mental states connect, Naruto tells Sasuke that he once considered revenge on the village for ostracizing him as the Nine-Tails' jinchuriki but chose to make bonds with others, including Sasuke. As they talk, Sasuke offers Naruto two choices: kill him and be a hero or be killed and known as a loser. Naruto rejected both, and when their clash was over, Sasuke is saved by the White Zetsu. When Tobi appeared to take Sasuke away, Sasuke agreed to hear Naruto's third option. Naruto explains to Sasuke they have become high-ranking shinobi because they can read each other's minds now and his option is that they will both die the next time they fight. Naruto tells Sasuke to save his hatred and throw it all at naruto in their future fight and he is prepared to die with Sasuke. This angers Sasuke and he demands to know why Naruto is so obsessed with him, and Naruto replies he is his friend. Sasuke agrees to wait for the time they have to fight again but vows to kill Naruto first and refuses to go back on the path he walks. As they are leaving, Sasuke tells Tobi they need to talk.

At their hideout, Sasuke asks Tobi to replace his eyes with Itachi's eyes, as his vision is almost faded due to his reckless overuse of his Mangekyō Sharingan from battling Killer B, A, Danzō and Team 7 as he wants to defeat Naruto with his full power. After transplanting Itachi's eyes, Tobi claimed that Sasuke would need time to recuperate from the operation and adjust to the new Mangekyō. Sasuke however remarked that it felt perfect and that he could feel Itachi's power flowing into him as he evilly smirked.

Shinobi World War Arc

Sasuke recovers from his surgery, he learns about the Fourth Shinobi World War but he says he had no interest in it. After some time passes, Sasuke attacks White Zetsu with his Susanoo and sets him ablaze with Blaze Release: Susanoo Kagutsuchi, saying that his eyes could see just fine in the dark so he should try it outside. He then removes his bandages, revealing his Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan. Back at the Mountains' Graveyard, Sasuke carves an opening through the roof with his sword and, dressed in his old garbs, goes off to find Naruto.

Along the way, he passes through two towns and finds them deserted. Sasuke meets up with some of clones, which are enraged that Sasuke killed the original White Zetsu, and they attack him. Choosing this time to test his new powers further, he slaughters most of the clones using a combination of Susanoo and Amaterasu. He uses genjutsu on a surviving clone to discover that Tobi has waged the war and that the Allied Shinobi Forces were moving to aid Naruto in his battle. Sasuke wonders if Naruto has forgotten what true strength is. He decapitates the hypnotised clone and destroys the last Zetsu clone with Amaterasu before heading towards the battlefield to kill Naruto himself. He then reminisces about his brother and resumes his way to the battlefield. As he notices something coming by the forest, he takes his sword and goes to investigate, only to find his brother, much to his surprise. Positively identifying Itachi, Sasuke asks what he is doing there since he was supposed to be dead, to which Itachi reveals Kabuto had reincarnated him with Impure World Reincarnation. Itachi then tells Sasuke that he wasn't running away but rather was focusing on doing important tasks like ending the Impure World Reincarnation. Sasuke demands to know why he was spared in the massacre and implies he would have rather been killed rather than suffer the grief of having survived, and Itachi says it was because Sasuke was an innocent child who didn't know the truth about the Uchiha clan's plot to take over the village. This doesn't satisfy Sasuke's questions about why Itachi would sacirifce everything for the sake of the village that used him.

Edo Tensei no Risuku

Sasuke joins forces with Itachi to defeat Kabuto.

Still pursuing his brother — who even goes as far as to summon a flock of crows in order to blind him — he manages not to lose sight of him and follows him right to Kabuto's location. After seeing him, Kabuto lets out a maniacal laugh and states that his luck was finally changing due to Sasuke arriving. After seeing Kabuto's form, Sasuke mistakes him for Orochimaru, but after hearing Kabuto's voice, he realises it's not Orochimaru. Kabuto then tries to take advantage of Sasuke's hatred to help him defeat Itachi. Sasuke, however, having learned the truth about Itachi, sided with his brother over Kabuto, stating that anything left of Orochimaru was his enemy as well and then told Itachi that when this was over he was supposed to keep his promise and talk to him about everything afterwards.

As Kabuto covers his face up entirely claiming that introverts weren't used to so much attention, Sasuke surmises that it's because he wanted to protect himself from the brothers' ocular-based genjutsu. Informing his brother of some of the abilities of the snake, he watches on vigilantly as Kabuto's snakes grow in size and attack them. Activating his Susanoo alongside Itachi, he beheads the snakes that attacked him. As Itachi cautions him to not be so rough, Sasuke tells his brother that with Orochimaru's powers it'd take more than that to kill him. Sasuke manages to get close to Kabuto and rip his hood off with the Susanoo, though much to the brothers' surprise, Kabuto was nowhere insight, hiding inside one of the fleeing snakes. Sasuke quickly reacts by drawing his sword and throwing it at one of the snakes, pinning it to the wall. However, as Kabuto manages to elude them, Sasuke listens as Kabuto tells him that the experiments on his former team-mates had allowed Kabuto to acquire new abilities. Forming his Susanoo, Sasuke fires an arrow at Kabuto which the latter narrowly dodges, Sasuke watches on as Kabuto emerges from the mouth of one of the snakes and declares that after finding the Cave and learning the way of the sage from the White Snake Sage, that he had transcended to a dragon.

As Kabuto's technique is initiated, Sasuke covers his ears and closes his eyes in pain, realising that he can't maintain his Susanoo. As the technique ends, Sasuke opens his eyes to see Itachi's Susanoo protecting him. Kabuto tries to implant doubt and mistrust amongst the two brothers, but Sasuke doesn't fall for them and attempts to hit him with his Chidori Sharp Spear, but fails. As Kabuto tells them that a mismatched pair like them could never defeat him, Itachi tells him that they'd be going with an attack pattern they had used in their youth against a wild boar. Forming his Susanoo arrows, Sasuke is able to hit Kabuto's snake-tail with his arrow, effectively pinning Kabuto to the ceiling of the cave. He later realises that Kabuto was moving to use his discarded sword to seemingly sever his snake-tail. Itachi intercepts the swing however. As Itachi returns to Sasuke, he tells him that beating a giant pig like that was probably no problem for him now, to which Sasuke replies that dealing with the snake before them was the more pressing issue.

Noticing the strong teamwork between the two brothers, Kabuto admits that he is surprised by it. Sasuke explains that he merely wants to know the truth from Itachi's own mouth. Realising that Sasuke is now aware of Itachi's secret past, Kabuto mocks Sasuke for trying to get the truth from Itachi when he has been lying to his younger brother all his life. Kabuto goes on to say it is foolish that Sasuke is helping Itachi when their personal goals are so different; Itachi's being to protect Konoha while Sasuke wants to destroy it. Pointing out that he and Sasuke share similar goals of destroying Konoha, Kabuto again tries to persuade Sasuke to join him. Ultimately, Itachi tells Sasuke not to listen as Kabuto is an even better liar than him. Itachi then admits to Konoha's dark side, but still firmly considers himself a Konoha ninja, greatly shocking Sasuke. Admitting to his own faults for how Sasuke turned out, Itachi promises to tell him something important after the battle, which he intends to finish with "Izanami", the partner technique to "Izanagi". As Kabuto attacks, Itachi blocks it, telling Sasuke the technique has begun and to stay near him.

As Kabuto attacks once again, this time incapacitating Itachi, Sasuke creates a ring of Amaterasu flames around himself and his brother in order to prevent Kabuto from getting any closer. Growing impatient, Sasuke questioned Itachi about whether or not they really had to keep him alive as it was hampering them. Seeing that Kabuto was prepared to attack once more, he asks Itachi again if Izanami was ready yet. The siblings come under attack once more as a copy of Sakon — which emerged from the base of Kabuto's naval snake — transformed into Jirōbō and breached their Amaterasu barricade. Without time to retaliate, the two brothers incinerated the onslaught on web produced by the copy of Kidōmaru which appeared next. Kabuto then produced a copy of Kimimaro to barricade their exit with bones after covering their fore with more web. Realising that they were boxed in the brothers activate their Susanoo with Sasuke using his Blaze Release: Kagutsuchi to destroy the web that was in front of them whilst leaving the field of bones to Itachi. Retreating further into the cave, the brothers are afflicted by Tayuya's auditory genjutsu. Using their own genjutsu to break each other free from the technique, the brothers are able to stop the white snake form of Orochimaru from attacking them. However, Kabuto uses this opportunity to emerge from the mouth of the snake and bisect Itachi.

Sasuke saves Itachi

Sasuke protects an incapacitated Itachi from Kabuto.

As Kabuto attempts to reassert his control on Itachi again with his seal, Sasuke intervenes, launching his sword at Kabuto and then using his Susanoo in an attempt to capture him, forcing Kabuto to retreat. Sasuke then launches a fireball at Kabuto, only for Kabuto to easily counter it with a powerful water stream. As Kabuto then redirects his attention to Itachi, Sasuke rushes to his brother's side, where Itachi tells him once again to stay close to him. Sasuke then watches as Kabuto and Itachi seem to repeatedly clash in the same manner. It is then realised that Itachi's Izanami has finally taken effect, forcing Kabuto to repeat the same series of events with the same outcome every time. Taking the opportunity to question his brother about the technique, Itachi explained the mechanism behind Izanami and when he used it. Seemingly angered when Itachi told him why he used a technique that could be cancelled by the victim, Sasuke listens as Itachi explained his reasons for doing so, before Itachi tells him that he would be stopping the Impure World Reincarnation. Voicing his apprehension at first when he hears this, as it meant that Itachi would also be stopped once the technique was cancelled, Sasuke reacts angrily to Itachi's statement that he was proud to be able to protect his village and claiming that after all the village had done to Itachi, there was no way he could forgive them.

Itachi's farewell

Itachi imparts his final words to Sasuke.

Sasuke told Itachi that it was because he remembered his time with Itachi that he would not give up his vendetta against Konoha and in the same manner that Itachi strived to protect it, he would destroy it. With that, he wished his brother farewell before he noticed Itachi walking towards him with his hand outstretched. Itachi then explains to Sasuke that what Danzō and Tobi had told him had been the truth: he had been given the choice to either die along with his clan or to kill the Uchiha, protecting the village and Sasuke. Itachi reaches Sasuke and puts his hand on the back of Sasuke's head and his forehead on his, telling him that he knows that he can't change Sasuke's mind, but no matter what path he chose, he would love Sasuke forever.

Ten-Tails Revival Arc

Kaija Hōin

Sasuke revives Orochimaru.

Sasuke started to question what a village was, and what shinobi truly were, leading to wonder if revenge was his purpose in life and he doesn't know what he should do. While still lost in his thoughts, Suigetsu and Jūgo found Sasuke, and give him the scroll they had found at Orochimaru's hideout. From what he reads in the scroll, he declared that he will find the human who knows everything and decides to revive Orochimaru to help him. To this end, he used Anko's Cursed Seal of Heaven along with a piece of Kabuto's altered flesh to revive Orochimaru, ignoring Suigetsu's vehement protests. After catching each other up with what has happened, Sasuke shows Orochimaru the scroll, making him wonder what Sasuke wanted from "them". Tired of being treated as a child by everyone, Sasuke was determined to find the truth of Konoha's past and of his clan in order to find his own path.

Sasuke returns to Konohagakure

Sasuke returns to Konoha for the first time in years.

While insisting that he still desired revenge, Sasuke explained that he must know what the idea of revenge really meant for him to know if it was truly his decision. Intrigued by how much Sasuke has changed, Orochimaru decided to take him to where his questions could be answered. Following the Sannin, their travels took them to Konoha where they briefly sense the volume of Naruto Uzumaki's chakra on the battlefield. Reacting to this as little more than a nuisance, Sasuke tells the group to continue on their journey, which took them to a temple which had fallen into ruin on the outskirts of the village. Retrieving a mask from there, Sasuke followed Orochimaru through the village where he stopped, moved to a high vantage point and surveyed the village, noting that it had changed somewhat. Not one to linger on sentimental feelings, Sasuke pressed on to the destroyed Naka Shrine where he unsealed the hidden meeting hall below the temple. Once there, Orochimaru initiated the ritual to unseal the contents of the Shinigami using the spore clones that had been attached to Sasuke as sacrifices to reincarnate the ones who knew everything: the previous four Hokage. After introducing himself to the Hokage, Sasuke asks Hiruzen why he had ordered Itachi to massacre the Uchiha clan to have him confirm everything he had been told before. Tobirama then tells Sasuke that he was from a clan possessed by evil, revealing how the Sharingan was awaken, and how an Uchiha who experienced loss would spiral deeper into darkness and become unwieldy, and that he, in his attempt to help the Uchiha channel that force, gave them the Konoha Military Police Force, which ultimately destroyed them as well. Though admonished for this by his brother Hashirama Senju, Sasuke told them that he was not pure nor a child and asked the latter what is a village and what is a shinobi.

Sasuke no Kotae

Sasuke makes his decision to protect Konoha.

After Hashirama concluded his story, Sasuke mused that it was nothing if not ironic that the person who had inherited Hashirama's will was an Uchiha. Tobirama, however, corrected the young Uchiha, noting that not only did he himself not hate the Uchiha, but that there were many who had transcended the limitations of thinking only of the Uchiha, presenting his subordinate Kagami Uchiha as a prime example of this. Having heard all he needed to from the Hokage including the Third and Fourth, Sasuke seemingly broke free of the Curse of Hatred and resolved to protect the sacrifice his brother had made and head to the battlefield. As they prepared to head out, Karin appeared, having sensed Sasuke's chakra, and berated him for stabbing her. He simply apologizes to her, which she reacted with a combination of dismay and delight, but after being told by Orochimaru to look over Sasuke's actions and help him, Karin decides she can't stay angry at Sasuke after all.

Arriving on the battlefield, Sasuke's presence shocked Sakura and the rest of Konoha 9, although Naruto was expecting him and mocked him for his late arrival. Everyone was angry at Sasuke for coming and demanded what he wanted, and after noting they are still annoying, he informs them of his decision to protect the village and become Hokage. This further shocks and dumbfounds them, and they berate him for saying such a thing because his crimes against them and others can't be forgotten or forgiven. While Sasuke understands they can't forgive him, he says he doesn't care what they think of him and his resolve to be Hokage is to recreate the ninja system due to his belief the world's current problems are due to the current and previous Hokage. Naruto and Sasuke get ready to take on the Ten-Tails when Sakura says she will join them as a member of Team 7, leading Naruto to joyfully declare Team 7 has been reborn.

As Hashirama managed to make small openings in the barrier containing the Ten-Tails, Sasuke charged in along with his former team-mates to face the beast. He initially fought several of the Ten-Tails clones using his Kenjutsu skills. Sasuke was impressed as he witnessed Sakura use her enhanced chakra release to defeat a clone and destroy the area around her with one punch. Sasuke later saved Sakura from the Ten-Tails' clones that had managed to sneak up on her and warned Naruto not to get in his way. After Sai informed Naruto of how to reach the Ten-Tails' real body, Sasuke, Sakura, and Naruto simultaneously used the Summoning Technique with which Sasuke summoned a snake summon named Aoda alongside Katsuyu and Gamakichi respectively. He then used Aoda to slide past the clones of the Ten-Tails, while also fending off their attacks using a more enhanced version of his Chidori-infused sword. After two clones managed to put up a barrier in his way, Sasuke manifested his Susanoo and broke through it with his Susanoo Sword. He then used the Susanoo to fire an Amaterasu flame-enhanced arrow towards the Ten-Tails, which was combined with Naruto's Wind Release: Ultra-Big Ball Rasenshuriken, to do even more damage to the beast. Afterwards, he commanded the Amaterasu flames to burn the Ten-Tails as Sai asked Jūgo if Sasuke was serious in his vow to become Hokage.

Naruto then told Sasuke to extinguish the flames when the Ten-Tails was weak enough to rip the tailed beasts out of its body only for Sasuke to refuse, fanatical on his path to end the "twisted system" and create a new one. Later, as Madara began to use Obito to revive himself, Sasuke and Aoda made their way towards Obito in order to stop the process. After Aoda was captured by the Ten-Tails, Sasuke lunged at Obito, manifested Susanoo, and fired another flame-enhanced arrow at Obito. However, Obito managed to deflect the attack. Just as Sasuke was about to take out Obito with Chidori, Minato teleported to Obito and cut him down. However, he survived the attack and surprised everyone by becoming the Ten-Tails' jinchūriki. Sasuke was shocked to witness Obito cut through the First and Second Hokage so easily. When Naruto questioned his father about whether or not he couldn't prevent teleport the Third to safety, Sasuke told him to stop worrying because it was part of the Hokage's plan to determine Obito's new skills since they couldn't die because they were reincarnated. Sasuke later intercepted Obito's attack on Naruto with his Susanoo and declared that he would be the one to erase the past. However, Obito managed to break through the Susanoo and attack both Sasuke and Naruto.

With Minato unable to teleport to their aid as the marking for the Flying Thunder God Technique had seemingly vanished, Naruto's quick-thinking is able to save them from Obito's attack. Remembering what Minato had said about how the Flying Thunder God Technique worked, Sasuke realised that Naruto had connected them to Minato through the use of chakra arms allowing him to teleport them to safety. Sasuke later watched on as the event unfolded on the battlefield, and on Minato's orders prepared to launch a consecutive collaborative attack with Naruto after Minato had attacked Obito. During this time, when Minato was attacked by Obito, Sasuke reprimanded Naruto, reminding him that they needed to stay focus. He later looked on in shock as the ball Obito had attached to an unaware Minato prepared to expand, threatening to eradicate them all. Manifesting his Susanoo and grabbing Naruto as well, they are saved by Tobirama who teleported the orb away from them. While Tobirama and Minato came up with a new plan of attack, Sasuke rushed forth and launched Amaterasu at Obito, much to Minato's protests. However, Obito managed to deflect Sasuke's attack, stating he could see the build up of chakra in Sasuke's left eye. He and Naruto then launched their counter-attack against Obito forming another Kagutsuchi-infused Rasenshuriken. As they charged, Minato teleported in front of them taking the blow of the technique, Minato then used the Mutually Instantaneous Revolving Technique to land a surprise attack on the new jinchūriki.

Though they believed the attack to have worked initially, they are all shocked to see Obito emerge from the attack unscathed. As they rushed forward, Sasuke noted that Obito would not be an easy one to defeat. As the readjusted their strategy, Naruto informed Sasuke that he was going to go all out again and asked if he would be able to keep up, to which Sasuke noted that he should not look down on the Uchiha. Watching as Obito attempted to deflect Gamakichi's Starch Syrup Gun technique, Sasuke later watched on in shock as Naruto was able to land an attack on Obito, wondering how he had accomplished this. Upon hearing Naruto's explanation of the situation, Sasuke came to realise that he meant that only senjutsu could counter the Ten-Tails and its jinchūriki and the young Uchiha later watched on as Obito trapped them in a barrier and prepared to launch several Tailed Beast Balls at them.

With the situation getting even more dire, Sasuke agreed with Jūgo and noted that he was going to get them both, and Naruto out of dodge. However, when Naruto dismissed their idea and insisted they come before him, Sasuke and the others soon found themselves on the outside of the barrier where the attack had been launched. As Sasuke looked on dumbfounded, Naruto explained what had happened and the Uchiha realised that they had once again used the basic principle of the Flying Thunder God technique to teleport them all outside of the barrier. Watching on as the battle progressed with Naruto and Minato on the front-lines, Sasuke silently wondered how Naruto could so effortlessly control such a large volume of chakra, and contemplated just how far his childhood team-mate had come, angering him. Sasuke later watched on as Obito manifested the Ten-Tails and had it assume its final form: that of the God Tree and Obito continued with the Eye of the Moon Plan.

As countless shinobi began being drained of their chakra, leaving everyone else filled with despair, Hashirama had Ino Yamanaka link everyone telepathically so that he could pass on the info that his original had heard about the Shinju and the Eye of the Moon Plan and to try and rally them to continue fighting. While Hashirama's words fail to inspire anyone, Sasuke continued to battle without fear or doubt, donning his Susanoo and cutting down a limb of the enormous tree shocking everyone. Calling out to Naruto, Sasuke asked the young man if he was done, as he himself had just begun. Through Ino's telepathc link, Naruto's emotions and memories were conveyed to everyone, leading the young Uchiha to sympathise with the loss of Itachi. Sasuke, in his complete Susanoo, joins Naruto in an assault. After Naruto informs Sasuke not to forget that only senjutsu will work against Obito, Sasuke tells him that he is not quick to forget, unlike Naruto. With this statement, Sasuke has Jūgo use the senjutsu chakra from his Sage Transformation on his Susanoo, which covers Sasuke's Susanoo with the Cursed Seal of Heaven markings.

Sasuke and Naruto then proceed to attack Obito, who once again used the Truth-Seeking Balls to aid in protecting himself from their assault. In unison with Naruto's senjustsu-enhanced Tailed Beast Ball, Sasuke fires a senjutsu-enhanced arrow at Obito. Sasuke and Naruto were unhappy to see that their combined technique did not harm Obito, due to him surrounding himself in a sphere formed from the Truth-Seeking Balls. The battle continued resulting in Sasuke's Susanoo and Naruto's Tailed Beast Mode form being destroyed. However, Sasuke and Naruto got up on their feet again, their resolves untouched. Standing alongside his comrade, he noted that they would end the battle with their next attack, to which Naruto agrees. With this, Sasuke manifests his final Susanoo which begins to encase Naruto's Tailed Beast Mode mantle.

After Sasuke's Susanoo fully encased Naruto's Tailed Beast Mode mantle, Sasuke then manifested his Susanoo sword. Noticing their powerful combination, Obito manifested a huge shield and the Sword of Nunoboko, preparing to engage the two young shinobi. After agreeing that they had one opportunity to take down Obito, Sasuke and Naruto charged into battle. While the Konoha 11 destroyed the shield, Sasuke's Susanoo sword managed to shatter Obito's legendary weapon. With his sword destroyed, Sasuke and Naruto managed to slash through Obito with the Susanoo's senjutsu-enhanced sword. Due to the success of Sasuke and Naruto's attack, Obito began losing control of the tailed beasts and Naruto began pulling the chakra of the tailed beasts out of Obito. Sasuke and the rest of the Allied Shinobi Forces later assisted Naruto in the great chakra tug-of-war against Obito, eventually succeeding in extracting the tailed beasts from him. Sasuke prepares to finish Obito off but Kakashi stopped him and reminded him and Naruto they still needed to deal with Madara.

Infinite Tsukuyomi Arc

Sasuke arrived to the battlefield from atop Sai's ink-bird and immediately began incinerating Madara with his Amaterasu. However, Madara shrugged off Sasuke's attack and absorbed it. After Madara defeated Naruto and Sai, as well as absorbing Hashirama's Sage Mode, Sasuke attacked Madara viciously with his sword. Madara allowed Sasuke to pierce his bicep and grabbed his blade, while also offering the young Uchiha the opportunity to join him in the battle against the Allied Shinobi Forces. However, Sasuke refuses his offer and informs the elder Uchiha that he plans to kill him, to which Madara responds that he will take Sasuke's eyes as a temporary replacement for his lost Rinnegan. As Naruto and Sai attempted to assist Sasuke in his battle against Madara, the elder Uchiha managed to evade the three attacking shinobi and turned his attention towards the tailed beasts.

Sasuke summoned a hawk to go after Madara, but was halted by Hashirama, who offered him a technique that would be able to bind Madara even his own senjutsu chakra. Sasuke flew towards Madara, and attacked him using an opening created by Tobirama, who was fighting Madara. However, Madara immobilized Sasuke in the air, and fatally stabbed him with his own sword despite Tobirama's pleas.

Sasuke clung to life remembering his resolve to honour his brother's sacrifice, and change the shinobi world for the better. However, Sasuke finally collapsed as Madara walked away. Tobirama and Karin later noticed grimly that they could no longer sense Sasuke's chakra. Later on, Sasuke was approached by a barefooted individual. The individual turned out to be Kabuto who was able to rediscover himself and thus, break free from Izanami. He chose to save Sasuke's life as Obito volunteered to save Naruto's life declaring that he now knew who he was and where he belonged and would pay Itachi back for helping him realise all this.

Within Sasuke's unconscious mind, he met the spirit of the Sage of Six Paths. He told Sasuke of his family history and revealed to Sasuke his status as the reincarnation of his eldest son Indra. Admitting to his own faults as a father and leader, Hagoromo asked Sasuke to help fix his mistakes. His answer was apparently enough to earn the approval of the ancient Sage, who passed the Yin half of his power to Sasuke. Upon awakening, Sasuke readied himself to return to the battle.

After Sasuke took out Madara's chakra rods from Tobirama's body, the Second used his Flying Thunder God Technique to send Sasuke on the main battlefield, as he teleported him to Minato's kunai that Naruto had taken with him. Madara watched on with surprise as Sasuke arrived next to Naruto, as the young Uzumaki noted that he and Sasuke are going to defeat him together, after he told him that he's not going to beat him alone. Sasuke, who unlocked the Rinnegan in his left eye after his meeting with Hagoromo, told Madara to get ready, and the older Uchiha replied that he had both their powers, the Rinnegan and the senjutsu of the Six Paths and that they were about to find out who is the strongest in a final battle.

As Madara continued to seemingly manipulate targets from afar, Sasuke's Rinnegan saw through the charade, discovering that Madara was actually producing an invisible clone to aid him. Realising that the clone was invulnerable to physical attacks, and that it could be damaged only by techniques containing senjutsu or Hagoromo's chakra, Sasuke countered Madara's assault by stabbing him with his sword. Sasuke then explained his analysis to Naruto, and ordered him to prepare an attack with senjutsu. The two then proceeded to assault Madara again. Collaborating with Naruto, Sasuke used an enhanced Chidori combined with Naruto's Sage Art: Magnet Release Rasengan to strike Madara, only for Madara to use his Limbo: Border Jail to absorb the damage. Realising the situation was shifting to Sasuke and Naruto's advantage, Madara instead stole Kakashi's Sharingan as a temporary replacement left eye and used its power to teleport to the Kamui's dimension to retrieve his actual left eye from Obito, but not before Sasuke bisected the older Uchiha.

Shortly afterwards, Sakura was teleported out of Kamui's dimension by Obito to Sasuke's shock. She warned her allies of Madara's potential power should he regain both his eyes. After Naruto restored Kakashi's original left eye, Kakashi asked Sasuke what his goals were now. As Sasuke remained silent, Kakashi chose to not push the question, instead reminding Sasuke that they are still all former members of Team 7. Kakashi also reminded his former students of their first lesson in teamwork. After Madara returns, fully regenerated and with both Rinnegan, Madara created four shadows to hold off his opponents. While Sakura impulsively attacked Madara, Sasuke and Naruto rushed to her aid; Naruto pulled her out of harm's way and Sasuke cut off the rod Madara stabbed her with. Madara then took to the air and performs the Chibaku Tensei. Sasuke responded by unleashing his Perfect Susanoo that flies into the sky and to cuts through the massive meteorites.

Upon noticing the moon had taken the image of Madara's third eye, Sasuke quickly retreated to the ground, and used the wings of his Susanoo to shield Naruto, Sakura, and Kakashi from the Infinite Tsukuyomi. When Naruto tried to leave to help others, Sasuke stopped him, telling him to be patient.

Kaguya Ōtsutsuki Strikes

Sakura asked what was happening outside and Sasuke replied she didn't need to know because there was nothing she could do. As Kakashi and Naruto defended her question, Sasuke announced he was taking leadership of the team, much to Naruto's outrage. Kakashi solemnly admits that with Sasuke's Rinnegan, he may be the only one able to save the world. As the light of Madara's technique finally ended, Sasuke let down his Susanoo, noting that only a Rinnegan had a chance of cancelling the Infinite Tsukuyomi. Madara then confronted the remaining free individuals, only for Black Zetsu to suddenly betray Madara and impale his hand through Madara's chest, shocking its audience. As Madara asked his own manifestation why he would do this, Black Zetsu boldly stated that it was actually a manifestation of Kaguya Ōtsutsuki. Black Zetsu then proceeded to expand its being into Madara.

As Black Zetsu continued to overwhelm Madara, Sasuke noticed that all of Madara's shadows had disappeared. Sasuke and his comrades were immediately knocked to the ground after large amounts of chakra burst from the ground and flowed into Madara. Sasuke deduced that the chakra was coming from the people trapped within the Infinite Tsukuyomi, and resolved to stop Madara before he could absorb any more chakra. While Naruto attacked from the front, Sasuke instantly teleported behind Madara and attempted to cut him down. However, Sasuke and Naruto's efforts were futile, as they were trapped within strands of chakra. As Black Zetsu transferred its remnants into Madara, the chakra began to settle, and Kaguya was fully revived. Noticing that Sasuke and Naruto are reincarnations of Indra and Asura respectively, she sent them hurtling to the ground. Explaining that she did not want Sasuke or Team 7 to interfere with her plans of creating her own army, she teleported them into a cave with a river of lava and Sasuke and Team 7 began fall into it.

Sasuke immediately summoned his hawk to save himself from the molten river, and he quickly saved Naruto as well, ignoring Naruto's pleas to save Kakashi and Sakura, who were saved by a quick-thinking Kakashi. When Naruto questioned his complete disregard for the safety of his comrades, Sasuke informed Naruto that they are the only ones who can defeat Kaguya, and so neither one of them can die, even if they survived at the sacrifice of others, such as Sakura and Kakashi. Kaguya immediately rebutted with a pinpoint attack, which Sasuke tried to block with his Susanoo, but ultimately failed, which resulted in his hawk's wing being pierced as well as Sasuke's left arm. As he fell into the pit of lava once more, Sasuke activated Susanoo to protect himself, and was swiftly saved by Naruto, who discovered his ability to fly. Naruto then proceeded to clash with Kaguya and managed to provide an opening for Sasuke, who rushed in to strike resulting in a massive explosion.

Ultimately, Sasuke's attack fails, and he is forced out of his Perfect Susanoo and begins to fall into the ocean of lava once again. As his blade is destroyed by the lava, Sasuke manages to teleport himself to Naruto's location, and he receives a platform to stand on from Naruto. Angry that his Susanoo has no effect on Kaguya, he and Naruto do not notice Kaguya as she sneaks up behind them with tears in her eyes. Black Zetsu emerges from Kaguya, latches onto Naruto and Sasuke, and begins absorbing their power, while he also explains the history of Kaguya's defeat, his creation, and his attempt to revive Kaguya. Once Black Zetsu finishes his tale, Naruto manages to rip Black Zetsu off of himself and Sasuke, and the two shinobi prepare their counterattack.

Sasuke and Naruto later discuss a counterattack plan, which gets put into action when the former uses Amaterasu on Kaguya, albeit she absorbs the attack and the latter uses the new technique. Ultimately, the plan is successful as Kaguya is distracted long enough to be punched by Naruto. Sasuke prepares to strike Kaguya with Yin Release while Naruto proceeds to strike Kaguya with Yang Release. However, the sealing attempt is unsuccessful as Kaguya shifts them to a different dimension and traps the two in a prison of ice. Sasuke uses Blaze Release: Kagutsuchi to free himself and Naruto from the ice. Black Zetsu tells Kaguya that she should separate the two, and so Kaguya emerges behind Sasuke and pulls him into her portal, leaving him trapped in a desert dimension, isolated and confused.

He attempts to find a way to escape, but to no success and quickly becomes exhausted. Sasuke senses Naruto's chakra but is unable to find him. Later he notices Obito and Sakura opening a portal and calls for him to come. The portal becomes smaller as Obito falters but Sasuke shifts to get in and catches Sakura as she collapses. He then explains how his ability works and thanks them for helping him. Sasuke returns to the ice dimension along with Obito and Sakura. As Sasuke makes his way towards Naruto, and the latter asks him if he has thanked Obito and Sakura, which he coldly rebuffs and tells Naruto to focus on Kaguya. Kaguya immediately shifts everyone to a high gravity dimension, and prepares to eliminate Sasuke and Naruto. Thanks to the effects of the gravity, Sasuke and Naruto manage to dodge the attack, but Kaguya launches the attack once more, intent on eliminating the threat. Kakashi and Obito jump in front of Sasuke and Naruto, but Obito uses Kamui to save Kakashi as well, and is stabbed in the process, shocking Sasuke and everyone else.

Sasuke recharges his left eye while everyone listens to Obito's final words. As his Rinnegan's power is restored, Sasuke takes the opportunity to surprise Kaguya and instantly teleports next to her. While Naruto attempts to save Obito, Sasuke informs him that he cannot do anything to save him, and so he should instead focus on Kaguya. Sasuke activates his Perfect Susanoo and flies towards Kaguya's location, preparing to take her on in battle. As he continues to battle her, Sasuke presents a dismayed and angry Naruto an opening, which he takes to rip off Kaguya's arm, with Black Zetsu still attached to it. While Sasuke begins pressuring Kaguya, Naruto launches nine separate attacks, each imbued with on of the tailed beasts' chakra. After hitting Kaguya with it, her body becomes unstable, transforming into an amalgamated mass of the tailed beasts. It produced several outstretching hands, sucking up everything it came in contact with. As it approached Sakura, Kakashi, having inherited Obito's Sharingan powers from the departed spirit, uses Susanoo to save Sakura, much to everyone's surprise.

Regaining control of herself, Kaguya then shaped the tailed-beast mass into a giant Truth-Seeking Ball. Kakashi devised a plan and shared it with his students, telling them to be ready for what could be their last mission as a team. As Naruto distracts Kaguya with his clones, Sasuke waits for the opportunity to leap into action. While Kaguya is distracted, Sasuke swaps place with one of Naruto's shadow clones and appears next to Kaguya. As she attempts to escape, Sakura comes from above and knocks Kaguya down, as Naruto and Sasuke finally manage to touch her with their special sun and moon tattoos they received from Hagoromo, preparing to seal away the Rabbit Goddess once and for all.

Immediately upon contact, Sasuke and Naruto begin the ultimate sealing technique: the Six Paths Chibaku Tensei. Kaguya wonders how she, the ancestor of all chakra, could be defeated by mere fragments of chakra, as she reverts back to the Demonic Statue of the Outer Path, and is encased by the landscape, creating an enormous satellite similar in size to the moon. After sealing away Kaguya, the moon tattoo disappears from Sasuke's hand, as the sun tattoo disappears from Naruto's hand, and reappears on the hands of Hagoromo. Relieved that they have defeated Kaguya, they immediately worry about how they will return back to the real world. Suddenly, Team 7 and the tailed beasts are summoned back to earth by Hagoromo and all of the previous Kage. Satisfied, Hagoromo thanks Sasuke and his comrades for saving the world.

While everyone celebrates Kaguya's defeat, Sasuke senses some life in Madara, and rushes to eliminate his fallen enemy once and for all. However, he is stopped by Hagoromo, as Hashirama approaches his former comrade. Following Hagoromo's advice, Sasuke listens to Hashirama and Madara's final words to each other, as Madara passes away peacefully and the reanimated Hokage return to the afterlife. As the tailed beasts begin to talk about their future plans now that they are free, Sasuke grimly makes his intent to kill the current five Kage still trapped within Infinite Tsukuyomi known. He then proceeds to take control of the nine tailed beasts and seal them away within separate Chibaku Tensei. As Kakashi asks if he still simply desires revenge, Sasuke plainly states that what he wants is to recreate the world the way it should be, doing so with revolution. Noting that only Naruto still stands in his way, Sasuke faces his former friend and ally. While Hagoromo sadly looks on to see that once again his children battle each other, Naruto firmly says he will end this feud once and for all.

Before they depart for their battle, Naruto urges Sasuke to at least release the tailed beasts, but Sasuke tells he he intends to destroy the tailed beasts, which would require killing Naruto in order to eliminate the chakra of the tailed beasts within him, while also keeping the ones he trapped alive in order to end the Infinite Tsukuyomi. He orders Naruto to follow him, as he wants to take their fight elsewhere. As Sasuke turns to leave, Sakura makes a final plea to keep Sasuke from abandoning them again by telling Sasuke she still loves him and asks him to stay if he still holds a spot for her in his heart. Although appearing moved by her words, Sasuke feigned indifference casted a genjutsu of him impaling her chest on her, knocking her unconscious. Kakashi scolded Sasuke for ignoring the pain Sakura was going through because her desire to save him and her continuing to love him was making her suffer, and Sasuke countered that there was no reason for him and Sakura to love each other because he believed her feelings were from a failed past. Sasuke then led Naruto to the Valley of the End so they can settle their feud once and for all. Though Naruto tries to persuade Sasuke once more with Itachi's words, Sasuke rebuttals by preparing to tell Naruto what he means when he says the word "Hokage".

Sasuke explains Itachi's sacrifice to Naruto, stating that Itachi is the definition of a "true Hokage," despite the fact that his one mistake was allowing Sasuke to live so that he could learn the truth about his brother. Explaining his goal further, Sasuke tells Naruto that as he will become the Hokage, he will become darkness itself and take on all of the hatred of the world alone. By absorbing the hatred of the shinobi world himself, Sasuke will eliminate the darkness of the failed system, allowing it to shine once more. Naruto attempts to explain the error in Sasuke's ways once more, claiming that Sasuke does not know anything about his brother or what he believed in. However, Sasuke does not take Naruto's words into account, and states that Naruto's death will be the beginning of the new clean slate he is determined to inflict on the world. With nothing else left to say, Sasuke and Naruto clash, with enough force to begin cracking Hashirama's statue.

Repelling against each other, Sasuke immediately fires a massive fireball at Naruto, who manages to deflect the attack by activating his Six Paths Sage Technique. Leaving Naruto little time to react, Sasuke shifts behind Naruto, activates his Chidori, and knocks Naruto into the water. As Naruto recovers, Sasuke activates his Susanoo and fires three arrows towards Naruto, though he manages to block Sasuke's attack by utilising three of his Truth-Seeking Ball, resulting in several small explosions. Sasuke activates his Perfect Susanoo and tries to slice down Naruto, only for his attack to be countered by one of Naruto's tails as he enters Tailed Beast Mode. The two titans' fists clash together, as memories of the past are shared between the two.

A new clash between Sasuke's Susanoo clashing with Naruto's Tailed Beast mode. Taking a moment, Sasuke warns Naruto to pick up the pace if he doesn't want to die, while Naruto refuses to abandon Sasuke, despite their differences. While Naruto forms a Tailed Beast Ball, Sasuke applies the Chidori to his Perfect Susanoo. The two techniques clash, resulting in a massive explosion, as Naruto and Sasuke enter their inner subconscious once again. Sasuke tells Naruto that they are no longer children, and that despite their differing opinions, they should be able to understand each other at this point. While remembering Sasuke's words about two high class shinobi learning each other's feelings through their fists, Naruto tries once more to convince Sasuke to stop fighting, stating that his goal is pointless since the five shinobi villages have already united. However, Sasuke explains that they only united to defeat a common enemy; with their enemies defeated, Sasuke believes the world will become like it was before the war. Resolved to becoming the common threat for the sake of the shinobi world, Sasuke explains that he will find some way to gain immortality through the use of his immense power- stating that is what he means by becoming "Hokage." Returning to the real world, Sasuke and Naruto are knocked back as a result of the explosion of their colliding attacks.

Attack from behind Sasuke's Susanoo fighting against Naruto's clones. Pleased that Naruto is becoming serious, Sasuke summons the satellites encasing the tailed beasts and begins channeling their chakra into his Perfect Susanoo, as it changes into a more humanoid form, while stating he is quite possibly the strongest person in the world, which is later noted by Kurama, as he states that Sasuke is on the level of Hagoromo himself. While Naruto summons three shadow clones, Sasuke immediately attacks him from behind, knocking one of his clones into the earth. The two battle in the sky, as Naruto tries to attack Sasuke, but fails as Sasuke uses a lightning-based senbon to counter Naruto's technique, resulting in a massive explosion. Naruto combines his clones to form one powerful chakra avatar and throws two Rasenshuriken, while Sasuke fires a lighting-enhanced arrow, as the two attacks prepare to collide in the air. Sasuke and Naruto's attacks collide in the air, creating a massive explosion that devastates the land and destroys the heads of the Madara and Hashirama statues. Completely drained of chakra, the two fall to the earth and into the valley once more. Surprised that Naruto has survived the last encounter, Sasuke attempts to use Amaterasu to incinerate Naruto, but fails, as Naruto uses Kurama's chakra to protect himself from the damage.

As Sasuke begins to feel the effects of using too much chakra, Naruto takes the opportunity to create clones that attack Sasuke altogether, sending him into the air, Naruto plans to deliver a decisive blow, but Sasuke also manages to land a hit as well. Sasuke summons shuriken to eliminate Naruto's clones and attacks what he believes is the real Naruto body, only to be fooled with a clone as Naruto lands a large blow. Sasuke tries to use his Chidori, but fails, as Naruto activates his Rasengan, only for him to trip and lose the technique. Seeing this opportunity, Sasuke kicks Naruto onto his and begins punching Naruto repeatedly in the face, until Naruto finally manages to break free with a headbutt. As Naruto rises, the two engage in a long battle of taijutsu for an entire day. Upon nightfall, Sasuke and Naruto continue to fight with only their strong wills, as the two are both completely exhausted. Kurama gives Naruto more chakra to use for one final attack, but Sasuke manages to use his Rinnegan's Preta Path ability to absorb Naruto's chakra for his own. Activating the Chidori and his Sharingan once more, Sasuke prepares to end Naruto's life, stating that he will finally be alone once his one and only best friend is dead. Refusing to give up, however, Naruto struck back, sending Sasuke into the wall of the valley. Enraged at his persistence, Sasuke channeled the last of his chakra into a Kagutsuchi-infused Chidori and clashed for a final time with Naruto's Rasengan.

In the process, they destroyed the rest of the valley and each other's arm. Completely drained from their fight and on the verge on dying, Sasuke lost consciousness. Waking up some time later, the two lay next to each other with Sasuke asking why Naruto would go through such lengths for someone like him. Naruto says they're friends but Sasuke doesn't believe him because it obviously goes further than that. Naruto explains that he feels pain whenever Sasuke is going through a tough time. Shocking Sasuke, the two eventually fall asleep for the night once more.

While unconscious, Sasuke begins thinking about his relationship with Naruto and how he has always felt the same way about Naruto that Naruto has felt about him. Upon waking up in the morning, Sasuke laughs at Naruto for still wanting to fight him despite their injuries and, as he acknowledges that he himself had truly been jealous of Naruto from the start, Sasuke admitted defeat. Sasuke asks Naruto to take his Rinnegan and give it to Kakashi to end the Infinite Tsukuyomi but Sasuke wants to end his own life. However, Naruto told him he wouldn't let the Uchiha die on the battlefield, declaring that he would always be there for his friend no matter what, moving Sasuke to tears. Sakura arrived shortly after and healed the two. He tries to speak to her but she tells him to be quiet so she can concentrate on healing them. Guilt-ridden, sasuke then sincerely apologised to Sakura for all the things he had done. She tearfully accepted it as a pleased Kakashi looked on at his team reuniting once again. Sasuke forms the special sign with Naruto by, resulting in the release of the Infinite Tsukuyomi and the world being saved from the final threat. Following this, he released the tailed beasts from their prison in the satellites, much to the delight of Naruto.

Blank Period

After the war, Sasuke was officially pardoned by Kakashi, who had become the Sixth Hokage following Tsunade's retirement, and a good word from Naruto. Opting to see the world through clearer eyes, Sasuke prepares to leave Konoha, choosing not to wait for his prosthetic new hand to be finished. Sakura asked once more if she could come with him and while Sasuke tells her this journey is for him alone and that his sins had nothing to do with her, he affectionately poked her on the forehead, like his brother Itachi used to do to him, promising he'd be back and thanking her. As he departed from the village, he ran into Naruto, who had been waiting for him. Saying their final words to each other, Naruto gives Sasuke his former forehead protector that he had discarded at the end of their first fight. Accepting the headband as a sign of reconciliation, Sasuke leaves Naruto and the village, travelling around the world as a nomadic vagabond for many years in order to find redemption and analyse the world.

The Last: Naruto the Movie

Two years into his journey around the world, Sasuke eventually crosses paths with Hiashi Hyūga, who had earlier been injured in his battle against Toneri's puppets. While rescuing Hiashi, he watches as a large meteorite descends from the sky and obliterates nearby. Returning to Konoha, Sasuke indiscreetly drops Hiashi off to be healed, while other Konoha shinobi protect the village from falling comets. Lee and other taijutsu users manage to destroy a piece of a large meteorite, but the remainder of it continues hurdling towards the village. With no one else able to stop the meteorite, Sasuke activates his Chidori and destroys it, resulting in a massive explosion. After informing Kakashi that it was his job to protect the village since Naruto was away, Sasuke mysteriously vanishes. Coinciding with Naruto's marriage to Hinata, Sasuke continues his journey around the world, wandering in the desert once more.

Epilogue

Roughly three years after the war, Sakura left the village to find Sasuke and demanded that she go with him on his traveling. Because of her refusal to leave his side, he relented. During their traveling, they got married and Sakura became pregnant with Sasuke's child. By the time Sakura went into labour, Sasuke brought her to one of Orochimaru's hideouts and had Karin help with the delivery. Sakura gave birth to a daughter, whom she and Sasuke named Sarada. The birth of his daughter essentially marked beginning of the restoration of the Uchiha Clan, as Sasuke always wanted. Afterwards, the Uchiha family returned to Konoha and lived as a normal family for a couple of years.

When Sarada was a toddler, Sasuke uncovered evidence that Kagiya was forming a White Zetsu army to fight against an enemy far greater than herself. He asked Naruto, now the Seventh Hokage, to call a Kage Summit meeting. Accompanied with Sakura, he explained his suspicions and, to prevent a panic, he asked to go on a top-secret mission so he can continue his research. Naruto and the other Kage agreed to keep this a secret. Knowing this would mean protecting his daughter and the new generation, Sasuke left Konoha and ceased contact with his family, though he never forgets about them and feels a strong connection to them. Over the years, Sarada would ask her mother about her father, and Sakura explained they are important to him.

A few years later, Sasuke is walking through a forest when he senses something and reaches for his sword but dismisses it as part of his imagination. Unknown to him, Sarada is talking about him to Sakura.

Naruto Gaiden: The Seventh Hokage and the Scarlet Spring

While Sasuke is seemingly returning to Konoha after a 10-year absence, he notices that something has gone amiss. He then gets attacked by a cloaked individual, wielding a kusarigama. After fending his opponent off with his sword and a stream of lightning, Sasuke notices that the person has a Sharingan and wears the Uchiha clan's family crest on his back. As the mysterious shinobi flees, a confused Sasuke ponders how this is possible. Following this, Sasuke sends a messenger hawk to inform Naruto of the recent event, asking to meet with him.

Later at the waiting point, Sarada arrived, having joined Naruto on the journey to finally see her father again. Sasuke caught her by surprise where Sarada was crying with joy after finally seeing her father after longer than she could remember. Sasuke, however, was cautious and drew his sword in suspicion that she was affiliated with the boy that attacked him. Sasuke then moved to attack Sarada, who dodged his blade. He then moved to attack her with his hand when Sarada screams out "Dad", causing Sasuke to realise who she is and cease his attack, feeling guilty for not recognizing her. Sarada questioned who her real mother was, but received no answer. She demanded to know what Sasuke had been up to all this time, but he told her it was none of her business, causing her to run out the door crying with Naruto in pursuit to comfort her. Afterwards after sensing Shin and his father were attacking outside, Sasuke hurried outside to aid Naruto and protect his daughter.

Sasuke quickly engaged the mysterious man, swatting away his blades with his own sword, only for the man to catch hold of Sasuke's blade, Sasuke then used his Rinnegan to swap places and launch a Great Fireball Technique. The older man quickly pulled Shin in the way of the blast to take the brunt of the damage. Amazed at Sasuke's dōjutsu might, he voiced his desire to make it his own and introduced himself as Shin Uchiha as well. Adult-Shin then took advantage of Sasuke letting his guard down by manipulating Sasuke's sword into stabbing Naruto. The enemy Uchiha then launched more blades at Sarada, forcing Sasuke to shield his daughter with his body. Sakura appeared and quickly pummelled the man into submission. With the fight seemingly over, Sakura apologised to Sarada for not giving her a proper explanation about their family situation, to which Sasuke insisted that it wasn't her fault, but rather his own. Suddenly, a small creature appeared and teleported Shin, his son and Sakura away. Realising that Shin's arm was embedded with multiple Sharingan like Danzō's, Sasuke surmised that Orochimaru was behind this. Accepting Naruto's call to bring the children along, they went to Orochimaru's hideout for answers.

Along the way, they met with Yamato, who watched over Orochimaru from the outside. Upon arriving, they were greeted by Suigetsu and Jūgo, shortly followed by Orochimaru. Sasuke threatened retaliation against Orochimaru if he was involved in the attack on his daughter and the kidnapping of his wife. Orochimaru denied anything to do with what happened but explained that Shin is a long-time clone experiment of his that has since gone out of control. Following Orochimaru's explanation, Sasuke asked where Shin is. Orochimaru happily decided to tell, so Sasuke could kill Shin for him. Later, Sasuke waited outside with Orochimaru and his men for Naruto and Sarada to return, with Sasuke later berating them for making him wait and accused Naruto of making Sarada upset. When Orochimaru noted that Sakura might be dead, Sasuke calmly denied that being possible. With both of his dōjutsu finally regaining their full power after earlier using them to investigate Kaguya's dimensions, he manifested his Susanoo to transport everyone with him.

After taking flight with his Susanoo, Sasuke asked Naruto to detectwhere Sakura was. They soon found her engaged in a battle against Shin. Sasuke quickly dove in with his Susanoo and crushed Shin's body. While Sasuke checked to make sure his wife was okay, Shin called his clones to distract the enemies while he escaped. However, the clones instead betrayed and stabbed Shin, with one of them simply explaining that they outgrew the need of Shin. Thousands of more Shin-clones then appeared. While Naruto dealt with the army through his shadow clones, Sasuke swiftly took down a giant Shin-clone with his Susanoo. Shin took advantage of this fight to escape with his Time–Space technique, attempting to take the children with him through his creature. Seeing this, Sarada quickly killed the creature while Shin over-taxed himself. Sasuke then watched on with pride as Sarada joined the fight and defeated several Shin-clones with a single punch, using strength like her mother's.

After Naruto used Kurama to frighten the Shin clones into surrendering, Sasuke asked Naruto what should they do with the clones and Naruto proposed that they be taken to Konoha Orphanage, which Sasuke considered too soft but agreed with him. Learning that Sakura is indeed her biological mother, Sarada asked Sasuke if he believed their family to be connected to each other with their feelings, which he agreed with. When asked why, he explained that it was because he and Sakura have her as their daughter. Upon returning to Konoha, he shared his first family dinner with Sakura and Sarada. At some point, Sasuke and his family posed for a portrait together. After an unknown amount of time, he prepared to leave the village to continue with his travelling. Seeing that Sarada was upset, he surprised her by hugging her and affectionately poked her in the forehead, promising to come home soon. Sakura leaned forward in the hopes of receiving a kiss from him, but he instead turned around and bade them farewell, leaving Sakura disappointed while Sasuke was amused.

Boruto: Naruto the Movie

Several months later, Sasuke investigates the ruins of Kaguya's castle in the ice dimension and he finds a hidden scroll. He is then attacked by Kinshiki Otsutsuki and, after a brief battle, he manages to escape from him and Momoshiki Otsutsuki, taking the scroll with him. He returns to Konoha to warn Naruto of the two enemies he encountered but mainly to have the scroll deciphered. He goes to the Uzumaki residence, where he is nearly attacked by Naruto's son, Boruto, but he easily intercepts being hit. As Boruto apologizes for mistaking him for his father, Sasuke asks Boruto for his name and asks Hinata for Naruto's whereabouts, and she tells him he is still at his Hokage office. As he turns to leave, Boruto realizes Sasuke is his father's rival and equal, and starts to admire him. Halfway to Naruto's office, he finds Naruto's old, tattered jacket on the street after Boruto threw it out of the window. Upon arriving, he asks naruto to help decipher the scroll and gives him his jacket, explaining he met Boruto and the boy is just like Naruto when he was younger. Naruto rejects this and says Boruto is like Sasuke when he was younger but retracts this by saying Boruto is not like either of them because he never works hard as a ninja like they did. Naruto believes they are behind the new generation but Sasuke says the nature of a shinobi never changes, even in regard to Boruto. They then make a bet over this when Naruto insists it has and Sasuke says it hasn't. On his way home to see his wife and daughter, Sasuke is ambushed by Boruto, whom he easily defeats. Sasuke is asked by Boruto to take him as his student so he can defeat his father. Sasuke asks Boruto if he can use the Rasengan, and when Boruto says no, Sasuke tells him he can't be his student if he can't use the technique and walks away.

After several days of training, Boruto manages to master the Rasengan and shows it to Sasuke, who notes how small it is. Thinking this meant he failed, Boruto angrily threw the Rasengan into a tree and ran away. Sarada, who had been watching from afar, approached her father and spoke on Boruto's behalf. Sasuke tells her that he never said Boruto failed and he was going to accept Boruto as his student. The next day, Boruto presents a standard-sized Rasengan to Sasuke, who notices the Kote on Boruto's wrist and voices his suspicions on Boruto being able to increase his Rasengan in one day. While disappointed at Boruto for using an instrument rather than his own chakra, Sasuke agrees to train him. One night, they sit by a bonfire and Boruto asks Sasuke to tell him about his father. Sasuke describes Naruto as a stubborn loser who was always ranting he would be Hokage. Boruto elaborates that he wants to know Naruto's weaknesses, and Sasuke explains to Boruto that Naruto was a good-for-nothing filled with many weaknesses but overcame them to become Hokage, and all Boruto needs to know is the Naruto who made it all the way here rather than the Naruto now. As part of their training, Sasuke teaches Boruto shurikenjutsu, but Boruto complains it is Sarada's specialty due to her being Sasuke's daughter and an Uchiha. Sasuke uses the Multiple Shadow Clone Technique to show it is Naruto's specialty but hard work makes it possible for others to learn.

Sasuke keeps tabs as the scroll is being deciphered; during one visit, Naruto reveals he heard from Konohamaru that Sasuke is training Boruto and sadly agrees with Sasuke about the nature of a shinobi never changing. On the day of the Chunin Exams' final phrase, the scroll is finally deciphered and Sasuke, with his suspicions confirmed, rushes to alert Naruto. By the time he arrives at the arena, Momoshiki and Kinshiki are already attacking. Sasuke saves Sarada from being crushed by falling debris and is attacked by Kinshiki as he tries to get her to safety. Shikamaru uses his Shadow Sewing Technique on the two enemies to allow Sasuke and Sarada to regroup with Naruto and Boruto. Sasuke tells Naruto they can't use their powers on the two and the scroll revealed that the two would come steal Kaguya's chakra, which explains why she was forming a White Zetsu army and they are the threat Sasuke has been searching for. As Momoshiki uses all the powers he collected from Boruto to attack them, Sasuke helps Naruto protect their children and themselves by combining Susanoo with Kurama. However, this proves futile and Naruto decides to stop the attack, and asks Sasuke to take care of their children, which he agrees. As Sasuke shields Sarada and Boruto,Naruto successfully stops the attack but is captured.

Sasuke follows Boruto to Naruto's office and overhears Boruto calling himself uncool while donning Naruto's jacket. Sasuke tells Boruto he was scorned during the exams, had his headband taken away, and he is no longer a ninja, but on top of that, he made his sister cry, his mother is hurt, and his father is gone. Sasuke continues that if it weren't for his sister who adores him and his mother who worries about him, Boruto would be in the same situation Naruto was in the past. Asking the boy what he planned to do now, Boruto asks how his father was able to stop the attack with such power. Sasuke tells Boruto he can ask Naruto himself, revealing Naruto is alive and in another dimension, and Sasuke intends to rescue him. Boruto asks why would Sasuke bother with someone like him and Sasuke replies Boruto is actually a strong shinobi with the potential to surpass Naruto, explaining his reasons being that Boruto is Naruto's son, sasuke's number one student, and a bigger loser than Naruto because of his hate to lose. Sasuke forms a rescue mission with the four other Kage and he gives his scratched headband to Boruto before they travel to the dimension Naruto is at. The four Kage engage in combat against Momoshiki and Kinshiki while Sasuke and Boruto rescue Naruto, who asks why Boruto is here and wearing his jacket and Sasuke's headband. Sasuke explains many thing happened but somehow Boruto has become a ninja. Sasuke fights Kinshiki and manages to capture him with help of Chojuro and Kurotsuchi before going to help Darui and Gaara fight Momoshiki. Sasuke warns Naruto not to use ninjutsu on Momoshiki because he can absorb and release chakra, and they decide to use taijutsu. Kinshiki breaks free and tries to knock everyone out of the way so Momoshiki can turn him into chakra fruit and absorb him. Despite Momoshiki's drastic increase in strength and change in his appearance, Sasuke jokingly notes how Momoshiki reminds him of his former self. sasuke and Naruto then fight Momoshiki with taijutsu and initially have the upper hand until Momoshiki imprisons Naruto between boulders and Sasuke is burned by Momoshiki's Lava Release. Naruto comes to sasuke's aid and is enraged to see his friend so badly hurt, but, after being healed by Kurama's chakra, Sasuke assures him he is fine and can still fight. They then combine Kurama and Susanoo and slice Momoshiki's lava creature in half, defeating him. However, katasuke uses his Kote to finish Momoshiki off for good and Momoshiki absorbs his attacks, restoring his strength. He then traps the five Kage in a Shadow Paralysis Technique and is about to kill them minus Naruto. Sasuke, who had saved Boruto from Momoshiki's rampage, tells Boruto to use his Rasengan on Momoshiki, but Boruto doubts it will work and Sasuke tells him to trust him. Boruto's Rasengan succeeds in knocking Momoshiki to the ground and freeing Naruto and the rest of the Kage. Sasuke comes up with a plan with Boruto and Naruto to finish Momoshiki off for good. While Naruto lends his chakra to Boruto to create a Parent and Child Rasengan, Sasuke distracts Momoshiki long enough for Boruto to use a shadow clone to take out his Rinnegan and destroy him with his Rasengan. Exhausted from the fight, Sasuke comments naruto is a wreck and Naruto says he is too, and they sit together. Sasuke declares he won their bet on the nature of a shinobi never changing in regard to Boruto.

After returning to Konoha, Sasuke posed for a photograph with Naruto, Boruto, and the four other Kage. Sasuke is last seen standing on a rooftop with Sakura as they watch their daughter talking with Boruto and Mitsuki. With his mission completed, Sasuke returns to Konoha to live the rest of his life with his family and friends, entrusting the world to the new generation.

Relationships

Naruto Uzumaki

One of the most significant relationships in Sasuke's life is with Naruto, who is his rival, best friend, teammate, and surrogate brother. As kids, they always had a rivalry over who was the strongest, but at the same time, they sympathized with each other after realizing they were both orphans and experienced tragedy in their childhood. This is seen when Sasuke called sakura annoying for criticizing Naruto for being an orphan. In fact, Naruto recalls a time when he and Sasuke glared at each other but then they secretly smiled at the other, and he actually wanted to be friends with Sasuke all along. At 12-years-old, they accidentally have their first kiss, an incident that still haunts them. After being put on the same team, Sasuke had a low opinion of Naruto and called him a loser, but as time passed, he grew to consider Naruto as a friend and Naruto becomes the first person Sasuke develops a bond with since his clan's massacre. When he saw Naruto getting stronger, Sasuke became jealous and started treating Naruto as an enemy before he ultimately decided to sever their friendship and defect Konoha in order to get stronger. When Naruto tried to stop him, Sasuke revealed his new desire to kill Naruto but chose to spare an unconscious Naruto after their first battle. Three years later, when they reunite, Sasuke was indifferent towards Naruto and explained he spared Naruto on a whim but he vowed to finish him off for good just to prove how much he's changed since their last battle. Due to this goal, Sasuke was willing to achieve any means to gain the power he needed to defeat Naruto. As Sasuke fell deeper into darkness, Naruto was left in a deep depression of how low Sasuke had fallen and how everyone was opting to kill him to stop him but Naruto refused to give up the possibility of redeeming Sasuke. Naruto went as far as to beg the Raikage to pardon Sasuke for his crimes against his village and be beaten rather than sell out information on Sasuke. Eventually, Naruto declares to never give up on him and he will bring him back to Konoha, which angered and surprised Sasuke. This made Sasuke more determined to kill Naruto during the war and he rejected Naruto's assertion that he understood why Sasuke was so bent on revenge against Konoha. Sasuke offered Naruto two choices: kill him and be a hero or be killed and known as a loser. Naruto rejected both and said there was a third option, which was they would both die in their final battle. Naruto said he was willing to die with Sasuke in their future battle if it meant Sasuke won't be alone. Despite this, Sasuke temporarily worked together with Naruto in defeating Obito, the Ten-Tails, Madara, and Kaguya, and only protected Naruto so that he can fight him later. To fulfill his goal of creating a new ninja system through destruction and rebirth, Sasuke fought Naruto, who was the one person who can stop him, but in the battle, rather than dying, they each lost an arm. After hearing Naruto's promise to always be there for Sasuke as a friend, Sasuke admitted he was always jealous of Naruto and finally accepted defeat, allowing them to truly reconcile. It would be a good word from Naruto that would prevent Sasuke from being imprisoned for his crimes and Sasuke comes to appreciate Naruto for teaching him the true meaning of a shinobi. In the years to come, they become true surrogate brothers and best friends but remain as rivals, though on friendly terms. As adults, they tend to crack jokes with each other and are more easily able to work together as partners in combat.

Itachi Uchiha

Itachi is Sasuke's older brother. From childhood, Sasuke remembered Itachi as a loving and caring older brother who always poked him on the forehead as a sign of affection. Sasuke looked up to his brother and often threw tantrums when Itachi was unable to spend time with him, leading Itachi to come up with games to keep Sasuke occupied. However, Sasuke felt that he lived in Itachi's shadow as there were high expectations from Sasuke like there had been from his brother, who was deemed a perfect prodigy of the Uchiha clan. Sasuke tried to surpass Itachi by excelling in his studies and learning many of the Uchiha clan's techniques. In the events leading to the clan's massacre, the relationship between Sasuke and Itachi took a turn for the worse when Itachi withdrew from the clan in midst of being suspected of murdering his best friend. Still though, Itachi seemingly still made efforts to spend time with Sasuke and offer him advice to impress their father. Sasuke was horrified to discover that Itachi had slaughtered every member of their clan and when Itachi said he spared Sasuke for being unworthy to kill. He also told the boy to hate him so that he can get stronger and exact revenge on him, which would envelope Sasuke's mind for years. As a result, Sasuke made it his life mission to kill Itachi in order to avenge their clan, causing him to become distant and cold towards others. After a humilating defeat at Itachi's hands and being forced to relive his parents' murders, Sasuke eventually chose to make revenge a more important priority than his friends, and this would send him down the path of a rogue ninja who was willing to use any means to achieve his goal, which had never been Itachi's intent. In their first major battle, Sasuke became strong enough to be deemed a threat to Itachi but the battle comes to a stunning end when Itachi's illness caught up with him and he died. Before dropping dead to the ground, Itachi appeared to try to take Sasuke's eyes but actually poked him on the forehead. After Sasuke learned the truth about the Uchiha Clan Downfall, an enraged Sasuke vowed to destroy Konoha in order to avenge Itachi and cried for his brother's sacrifice. After being reanimated, Itachi admitted the truth to Sasuke and said he never wanted Sasuke to walk the path he is on, but this only angered Sasuke who said he could forgive Itachi but not Konoha for what it has done to him, and it was the memories of the older brother he loved that made him unwilling to give up his hatred for the village. Knowing his words weren't enough to reach Sasuke, Itachi apologized for everything he has done to Sasuke and said he didn't want Sasuke to forgive him but he said he would love Sasuke no matter what choice he made. After this and some thinking, Sasuke accepts Itachi's actions and takes on his will to protect the village. Sasuke would continue to protect the village for the rest of his life, fulfilling Itachi's wish, and Sasuke adopted Itachi's habit of poking on the forehead, which he does with his wife and daughter.

Parents

Sasuke had different types of relationships with his parents; a loving and close one with his mother, and a distant one with his father. His father showed more attention to Itachi for being the perfection of a Uchiha prodigy while not going as far as to speaking to Sasuke. This caused Sasuke to feel neglected and that he was living in Itachi's shadow. His mother was always showering him with love and attention to fill in the void he felt for being ignored by his father, but his mother said to him that while his father appears stoic, he actually talks about Sasuke a lot and is proud of him. When Itachi started withdrawing from the clan, Sasuke was bale to spend time with his father and won his recognition after proving himself to be a prodigy for mastering the Fire Release at a young age. Sasuke was devastated when Itachi killed their parents and still mourned them as he got older.

Sakura Haruno

Sakura always had a crush on Sasuke since they were small children, but Sasuke often dismissed her. Her infatuation from him was rooted from his good looks and calm, collected attitude, and after being placed on the same team, she spent more time trying to win his affections rather than practicing her ninja skills. He had a low opinion of her and called her annoying for being inconsiderate of Naruto being an orphan. However, as time passed, he started to accept her as a teammate and friend, and he was willing to put his life on the line to protect her. While experimenting the powers of the Cursed Seal of Heaven for the first time, Sasuke was enraged to see Sakura hurt and repeatedly asked her to tell him who injured her before he broke the arms of the culprit. He later told Naruto to do everything in his power to save Sakura from Gaara because he didn't want to lose someone dear to him again. Sakura was the first person Sasuke trusted with the secret of him being infected with the Cursed Seal but warned her that he wouldn't forgive her if she told anyone. Sasuke would later say that his bond with Sakura had grown to the point where they can read each other's thoughts so easily. Similar to how he started treating Naruto with contempt, Sasuke, overcome with rage for not getting stronger, began rejecting Sakura before he decided to defect from Konoha. Sakura, who suspected this would happen, ran into him at the village's gate and they talked about their times together, and went as far as to desperately confess her love to him for the first time and offering to join him as long as she can make him happy. Although touched, Sasuke feigned indifference and called her annoying and knocked her out to prevent her from alerting the village but not before thanking her for everything. When they reunited three years later, Sasuke denounced any bond to Sakura and was more than willing to kill her twice if she stood in his way. Although distraught, Sakura was willing to kill Sasuke to save him sinking lower into darkness. However, with Naruto's vow to save Sasuke no matter what, Sakura decided to put all her faith in Sasuke and Naruto in fulfilling her dream of Team 7 being together again. They were able to put their differences aside as they fought the Ten-Tails, Obito, Madara, and Kaguya and, although Sasuke was impressed by her powerful strength, he rendered her useless and showed disregard in helping her. However, when she saved him from being trapped in another dimension, he thanked her. Before leaving to fight Naruto, Sakura tried to get Sasuke to return home by telling him that she still loves him. Again, although touched, he feigned indifference and knocked out with a genjutsu. He also said there was no reason for them to love each other and he believed her feelings were from a failed past. Afterwards, a redeemed and guilt-ridden Sasuke apologized to Sakura, which she accepted. Before leaving for his journey of redemption, Sasuke and Sakura spent some time together and began a relationship, and Sasuke genuinely fell in love with Sakura, leading him to marry her and have a daughter named Sarada. Despite his long absence, Sasuke and Sakura's marriage turned out to be a good one and sasuke feels guilty for having to leave his family for his mission. While Sasuke confirms he truly loves Sakura, he enjoys teasing her by declining to show her affection in public but is protective of her and holds a high opinion of her. In the novel Boruto: Naruto the Movie, it is implied that Sasuke and Sakura have a passionate relationship.

Sarada Uchiha

Sarada is Sasuke's daughter with Sakura. As the first Uchiha born since its' downfall, Sarada represents the clan's restoration. Sasuke loves his daughter more than anything and she is the reason why he continues to live. Before he left for his mission, it is hinted that Sasuke was very attentive and loving towards his daughter, as he was seen with Sakura teaching baby Sarada how to walk. Although Sasuke left when Sarada was a toddler, he never forgets about his daughter and it turns out that his lack of contact with her during his absence was because his reputation as a powerful shinobi and being an Uchiha would earn him enemies who wouldn't hesitate to harm her if they learned she was his child. Sarada has a strong attachment to her father and she always longed to meet him. When they did meet for the first time in years, Sasuke refused to answer her questions about her parentage and his absence, which briefly strained their relationship. Sarada even expressed anger at both of her parents for keeping secrets from her and doubted her father cared about her. However, Sarada learns she was wrong and her father really does love her, and he said he loved her mother as well because Sarada is the proof of their bond. While Sasuke admits he doesn't know how to be a father, he willing to apologize for his mistakes and make up for them as long as it makes Sarada happy. Sasuke is very protective of Sarada, to the point where he is willing to risk his life for her. Sasuke also doesn't hesitate to show Sarada affection in public, especially when she's upset. Although he unintentionally made her cry during their first meeting, Sasuke actually hates seeing her sad and criticizes anyone, including Naruto, for upsetting her. Sasuke harbors deep pride for his daughter she demonstrates she is a strong ninja, especially when he learns she dreams to be Hokage. In the novel Boruto: Naruto the Movie, Sasuke refers to Sarada as his beloved daughter.

Kakashi Hatake

Sasuke was always deemed as Kakashi's favorite student since Kakashi took a personal interest in Sasuke's desire to kill Itachi for evenge. Having first hand experience in being in darkness and knowing the damage it can cause, Kakashi sought to train Sasuke and taught him the Chidori to appease his desire for power. For a while, this helped calmed Sasuke down and almost made him give up for revenge. When Sasuke relapsed back into his desire and started turning on his friends, Kakashi lectured Sasuke about gaining nothing but emptiness and lonliness after achieving revenge. With his teacher's words in mind, Sasuke was torn between his desire for revenge versus the bond he feels with Naruto and Sakura, and he almost gave up revenge until he was offered the opportunity to gain power from Orochimaru. After Sasuke defected, Kakashi blamed himself for this because he felt he failed as Sasuke's teacher and agreed to help Naruto and Sakura bring him back to Konoha no matter what, even with force as he knew Sasuke was becoming stronger under Orochimaru's tutelage. After three years, once Kakashi learned that Sasuke becoming a dangerous international criminal, Kakashi felt there was little to no hope left in convincing Sasuke to return to the village. Initially, he was unwilling to agree to kill Sasuke for the purpose of keeping a war from breaking out among the nations, but after seeing Sasuke try to kill Sakura, Kakashi furiously tried to finish him off. Kakashi tried once more to convince Sasuke that there was more to life than his clan and revenge, but Sasuke rejected him and made it clear he planned to kill him along with everyone of Konoha. Kakashi opted to kill Sasuke himself rather than let Naruto or Sakura deal with that burden, but Naruto prevented this and Kakashi decided to put his faith in Naruto. In the battle against Madara and Kaguya, Kakashi and his students worked together as Team 7 for the first time in four years, although Kakashi worried Sasuke's allegiance with them was temporary. This was confirmed true when Sasuke announced his desire for a revolution, which Kakashi criticized him for and furthermore when Sasuke ignored the pain he was putting Sakura through. At the end, after Sasuke reconciles with Naruto and Sakura, Kakashi happily looked at his team reuniting for good. After becoming the Sixth Hokage, the first act kakashi does is pardon Sasuke for his crimes due to his services in ending the war, an act sasuke deeply appreciates and even apologizes to kakashi for everything he did.

Orochimaru

Despite seeking power from Orochimaru to get stronger, Sasuke actually despises Orochimaru and finds his use of human experiments disgusting. Although warned Orochimaru intended to use his body for his next vessal, Sasuke said he didn't care about that as long as he gained the power he desired. After three years of training with him, Sasuke decided he grew strong enough that he no longer needed Orochimaru, and admitting he never intended for Orochimaru to take his body all along. He then attacked a sickly and weakened Orochimaru, who tried to take over his body. However, Sasuke used his Cursed Seal to overpower Orochimaru and kill him with ease. Unknown to Sasuke, Orochimaru planted part of himself inside Sasuke to watch him before being killed. As the war commenced, Sasuke revived Orochimaru to have him reanimate the previous four Hokage in order for him to learn the meaning of a shinobi and what he should do in regards to protecting or destroying Konoha. Although he still intended to take Sasuke's body and expressed no interest in the war, Orochimaru was curious by the change in Sasuke and agreed to help him because he decided it was time for Sasuke to make his own decisions rather than being manipulated by others. After Sasuke decided to go to the war and help protect the village, Orochimaru decided to accompany him and convinced the previous Team Taka members to join as well and look over the things Sasuke did to them. Orochimaru seems to have developed respect for Sasuke as a result of his decision, due to that Orochimaru expressed shock when Karin feared that Sasuke was dead after being stabbed by Madara. Years after the war, Sasuke and Orochimaru met once again when Sasuke suspecting that Shin was a test subject of Orochimaru's and threatened to harm him because Shin kidnapped his wife and tried to kill his daughter.

Kabuto

Sasuke never got along with Kabuto and never thought much of him, despite appreciating Kabuto's help to him and Team 7 during the Chunin Exams. He learned of Kabuto working for Orochimaru as a subordinate after he defected from Konoha. Sasuke really finds Kabuto annoying and unworthy of his attention, such as showing no emotion when Kabuto expressed horror that Sasuke killed Orochimaru. As the war was going on, Kabuto used the Reanimation Jutsu to fight against the Allied Shinobi Forces before he was confronted by Sasuke and reanimated Itachi. He tried to kill the two brothers, who joined forces to take him down and undo the Reanimation Jutsu. Kabuto tried to mock Sasuke by reminding him of his desire for revenge against the village. After his defeat, Kabuto was redeemed and decided to make amends to Itachi by saving Sasuke from dying after he was stabbed in the chest by Madara.

Team Hebi/Taka

Karin

Karin has had a deep infatuation for Sasuke since he saved her during the Chunin Exams when they were kids. They didn't formally meet until Sasuke became Orochimaru's apprentice and Karin was working as a subordinate. She developed a sexual attraction to him based on his good looks, his calm and calculating attidute, and his powerful chakra. She made attempts to seduce him or get him to be alone with her but he showed no interest in her and rejected her. However, he found her healing abilities useful for his team and she agreed to join the team after feigning rejection. While he was emotionally distant with her and the team, Sasuke protected them after being reminded of Team 7. As he became more corrupted, Karin became alarmed how "cold and dark" his chakra was but remained attracted to him. When Sasuke was willing to sacrifice her to kill Danzo, he said she became a burden to him for getting taken as a hostage so easily. He was going to kill her before Sakura intervened Enraged of what he did to her, Karin said she was done with Sasuke. She later vented her rage at him for stabbing her but when he simply apologized, she realized she couldn't stay mad at him and forgave him. In the war, she panicked as Sasuke was dying from being stabbed by Madara, and whil under the Infinite Tsukiyomi, Karin revealed that her dream was to see Sasuke smile at her. Years later, while still have feelings for Sasuke, Karin accepts that he is happy with his family; developing a friendship with Sakura and a fondness for Sarada, whom she helped deliver.

Suigetsu

Suigetsu was the first test experiment Sasuke released after killing Orochimaru and enlisted his help in joining his team. Sasuke seems to pay little attention to Suigetsu's actions and finds his frequent arguing with Karin annoying. However, Sasuke demonstrates his habit of pulling off tricks with Suigetsu. As Sasuke's hatred overcame him, Sasuke discarded Suigetsu and the rest of his team, leaving them in midst of a heated battle against the Kage and not caring what happened to them. Due to not knowing what Sasuke did, Suigetsu helps Sasuke decide to revive Orochimaru so he can reanimate the previous four Hokage to determine what he should do with his life. Although terrified of getting involved in the war, Suigetsu felt pressured by Orochimaru to help Sasuke. Years later, Suigetsu would be blamed for the estrangement between Sasuke and his daughter after he erroneously concluded Karin was Sarada's real mother.

Jugo

Jugo is very loyal to Sasuke because Jugo's surrogate brother died trying to deliver Sasuke to Orochimaru. Because of this, Jugo considers Sasuke as his brother's reincarnation and he is willing to anything for Sasuke. Unlike Karin and Suigetsu, Jugo never questions Sasuke for his actions no matter how bad or suspicious they appear, and Jugo is willing to sacrifice himself to protect Sasuke. Due to Jugo's fear of losing control of his Cursed Seal and going on a murderous rampage, Sasuke offers to keep him under control. Even after Sasuke abandoned his team, Jugo was still loyal to him due to being oblivious to what sasuke di and immediately joined him in the war.

Boruto Uzumaki

When they first met, Sasuke told Naruto that his son, Boruto, reminded him of how Naruto was like as a child but Naruto insisted Boruto was similar to Sasuke at that age but retracted that as well. Naruto said Boruto is nothing like either of them because he never worked hard as a ninja, and Sasuke said the nature of a shinobi never changes, even in regards to Boruto. He was surprised when Boruto requested to be his student but Sasuke, remembering what Naruto said, told the boy to learn the Rasengan first. Although Boruto's Rasengan was small, Sasuke was impressed and was going to accept him before Boruto ran away because he though Sasuke's statement of the Rasengan being small meant he failed. Boruto then presented a standard-sized Rasengan and although Sasuke noticed the Kote Boruto was wearing and was a little disappointed, sasuke kept quiet and agreed to train him. Sasuke taught Boruto shurikenjutsu, but when Boruto complained it was Sarada's specialty because of her being Sasuke's daughter, Sasuke taught him that hard work makes it possible for others to learn techniques that belong to certain clans. He also tells Boruto about the hardships Naruto went through to become Hokage. He and Boruto develop a familial bond to where Boruto refers to him as "Uncle Sasuke". While he was disappointed at Boruto for cheating in the Exams, he knew lecturing the boy was pointless and instead sympathized with him for making a mistake. Even as Boruto doubted his abilities, Sasuke told him that he was strong shinobi who can one day surpass Naruto. Sasuke lent his forehead protector to Boruto as a sign he recognizes Boruto as a shinobi despite his mitakes and constantly protect him in the battle against Momoshiki and Kinshiki.

Gaara

Sasuke first met Gaara at the Chunin exams and right away, they expressed an interest in fighting each other after noticing their respective powers. However, Sasuke was almost overpowered by Gaara's sand powers and was left severally wounded as he tried protecting Sakura and aiding Naruto. His defeat at Gaara's hands and witnessing Naruto defeat Gaara would be among Sasuke's reasons for defecting Konoha. As Gaara redeemed himself and became Kazekage, Sasuke fell deep into darkness and became an international criminal. When Sasuke attacked the Kage Summit to kill Danzo, Gaara stopped the Raikage from killing Sasuke and offered to talk to him. Gaara tried to convince Sasuke to let go of his hatred because it will gain him nothing based on his own experience of being consumed with rage and revenge, and asked him to give it up for Naruto's sake if he isn't able to see the light in darkness. Sasuke refused by saying his goals exist only in darkness and he lashed out at Gaara for saying he understands the Uchiha's anguish. Seeing the failure Sasuke had become and feeling sad for Naruto's failed attempts to save his friend, Gaara shed a tear for Sasuke and Naruto before trying to stop Sasuke who escaped. Gaara saw no hope of saving Sasuke and tried to get Naruto to give up on him, but the latter refused. Gaara then decided to put his faith in Naruto in dealing with Sasuke. After the war ended, a redeemed Sasuke seems to be on civil terms with Gaara due to that they had no problem working together in rescuing Naruto and posed for a photograph with Naruto, Boruto, and the other Kage.

Konoha Comrades

Sasuke never had friends among his peers and considered himself far superior than his classmates until he was partnered with Naruto and Sakura. Sasuke had the attention of most of the girls (which annoyed him) but almost all of the boys disliked Sasuke for his attitude. Before defecting, Sasuke was willing to work together with his classmates but merely temporary comrades. After becoming a rogue ninja, his classmates joined together with Naruto to find him and bring him back to Sasuke, which was unsuccessful. When Naruto confronted Sasuke and shouted out that their friends risked their lives to find him, Sasuke was indifferent and retorted he didn't ask for them to look for him. Naruto further asked him if he was willing to turn his back on all of them for the sake of getting stronger and was enraged when Sasuke simply said yes. Three years later, when they learned Sasuke was an international criminal and his actions would lead to a war among the nations, they all opted to kill him to prevent this, although Naruto refused to go along with this and convinced them to let him deal with Sasuke on his own. When sasuke arrived on the battlefield to help, everyone was shocked and angry at him for suddenly showing up, and voiced their distrust in him but Sasuke said he didn't care what they thought of him. The fact he was willing to help them allowed them to put their ill feelings for him aside for the time being. After war, once Sasuke was redeemed, he appears to have made up with all of them and, as an adult, is on amicable terms with them.

Danzo Shimura

After learning the truth about the Uchiha Clan Downfall and it was Danzo who ordered it, Sasuke was overcome with rage and vowed revenge against him. His growing hatred towards the elder caused him to become ruthless and cold to the point where Sasuke was willing to kill anyone who stood in his way. Growing fearful of Sasuke's powers, Danzo fled the Kage Summit before he was intercepted by Tobi who then brought Sasuke and Karin so that Sasuke can fight him. Confronted by Sasuke, Danzo admitted the truth but insisted he ordered the massacre in the best interest of the village and Sasuke's actions were tarnishing Itachi's sacrifice. This enraged Sasuke who fought him and killed him several times before the elder came back to life each time. Eventually realizing he was no match against Sasuke, Danzo took Karin hostage but Sasuke didn't hesitate to stab them both with Chidori. Mortally wounded, Danzo committed suicide and tried to take Sasuke and Tobi with him but failed. Sasuke expressed thrill as "killing" the man responsible for ordering the massacre of his clan, and even as an adult, he seems to have no regret. Ironically, Sasuke was willing to mirror Danzo's actions by becoming the darkness in order to peace intact among the nations and eliminate any threat for peace, although Sasuke later protects the village in darkness, he does so cautiously and peacefully.

Tobi/Obito Uchiha

Tobi/Obito always had a special interest in Sasuke and intended to gain Sasuke's loyalty in order to have him destroy the village and aid the Akatsuki in the war. He was kept away from Sasuke due to Itachi secretly protecting his brother and began watching Sasuke while he fought against Itachi. After Itachi's death, Tobi/Obito approached Sasuke and told him the truth about the Uchiha Clan Downfall and Itachi's actions in order to gain Sasuke's trust. At first, Sasuke refused to believe it all and insisted that his brother was a traitor and a murderer but after remembering Itachi as a loving brother, Sasuke started to believe him and vowed vengeance against konoha. Tobi/Obito convinced Sasuke and Team Taka to join the Akatsuki but Sasuke and his group quickly defected and Tobi/Obito used Sasuke's hatred by ordering him to kill Danzo for ordering the Uchiha clan massacre and, by attacking the Kage Summit, declaring war on the five nations. Tobi/Obito reveals he has no consideration for Sasuke's well-being and will only protect him whenever it is convenient for his needs, such as when he sent a White Zetsu to inform the Kage of Sasuke's arrival despite telling Sasuke and his team to enter the Summit in secret, and when he informed Naruto of Sasuke's actions which would led to a confrontation between the two former friends. While Sasuke didn't trust Tobi/Obito, his desire to defeat Naruto was enough for a reason for Sasuke to work together with him. Ultimately, Sasuke decides to join forces with the Allied Forces and fight against Tobi/Obito, an action that surprised the latter. Even after Tobi reforms back to Obito and offers to help defeat Madara and Kaguya, Sasuke was reluctant and showed no concern for Obito's well-being, but did thank him for helping Sakura save him from being trapped in another dimension. In his last act, Obito sacrifices himself to save Sasuke and Naruto from Kaguya.

Madara Uchiha

As soon as he entered in the war, Sasuke made it clear he intended to kill Madara to end the war and protect Konoha. Realizing Sasuke was related to him, Madara was amazed by Sasuke's powers and tried to appeal to him to join him, but Sasuke mocked him and refused. Although reluctant to kill a member of his clan, Madara ultimately stabbed Sasuke in the chest with his own sword and left him to die. After gaining the powers of the Six Sage, Sasuke and Naruto were ready to fight Madara after he awakened the Infinite Tsukuyomi but were left shocked when Madara was betrayed and stabbed by the Black Zetsu. In the climax, Sasuke tried to finish Madara off as he was dying but was stopped as Hashirama reconciled with Madara. Sasuke seemed deeply touched by their parting ways, likely because he knows he will have to be facing Naruto and kill him.
