Hero Overview

Gojo: Give us ten seconds. Once ten seconds are up, come back to us.
Itadori: But-
Gojo: Don't worry. I'm the strongest.
~ Satoru Gojo to Yuji Itadori as he prepares to challenge Sukuna for the first time.
I want to reset that garbage jujutsu world. Murdering everyone at the top would be an easy task. But they would just get replaced. It wouldn't bring a revolution. And if I did that, no one would follow me. That's why I chose education. To raise up strong, clever comrades.
~ Satoru's motivation to teach at Jujutsu High.
Oh no. It'll all be fine. I mean really... You're kinda weak.
~ Satoru to Jogo.
Throughout Heaven and Earth, I alone am the honored one.
~ Satoru Gojo's most famous quote.

Satoru Gojo, reputed as The Strongest, is the overarching protagonist of the manga/anime Jujutsu Kaisen 0 and its sequel series Jujutsu Kaisen. He is the strongest and most legendary Jujutsu Sorcerer in the world, even rivaling and surpassing the King of Curses Ryomen Sukuna himself, and a teacher at Tokyo Jujutsu High.

Like most sorcerers, Satoru strives to protect the world from the Cursed Spirits that plagued it. However, Gojo saw the structure of Jujutsu Sorcerer society as flawed, and as such hoped to change it for the better. To this end, he became a teacher at Jujutsu High, a school dedicated to the cultivation of new generations of Jujutsu Sorcerers.

In English, he is voiced by Cristina Vee, who also voiced Ladybug in Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir, Darkness in Konosuba: God's Blessing on this Wonderful World!, and Shantae in Shantae.

Personality[]

Back when Gojo was a student, he was extremely confident in his abilities and reputation as a powerful sorcerer, believing himself to be invincible, his opinion of others often only going as far as his judgement of their strength, as well as being quite apathetic toward anyone he deemed weak. Additionally, greatly influenced by his own desire for power, he was very arrogant, convinced that he is the strongest in the world, which he technically is, claiming that "throughout the Heavens and earth, he alone is the honored one.", displaying extensive pride and arrogance after perfecting his reverse cursed technique following the battle against Toji Fushiguro. During intense battles, Satoru is seen to occasionally fall into a frenzied fighting state, urged by his determination for victory and undeniable proof that he alone is the strongest. His combative style is characterized by his aggressive and domineering attacks, while flaunting his mastered techniques to his opponents.

Nevertheless, despite his haughtiness and strength, Satoru is much more human than he first appears. Despite his arrogance and god complex, Satoru was able to build genuine friendships with Shoko and Suguru Geto and he was best friends with Suguru, despite his disapproval of Suguru's moral compass. He genuinely grew close to Riko Amanai, beginning to develop compassion for and seek to protect "weak people" the first time in his life. Even with his previous arrogance and conceit temporarily clouding his feelings of grief and empathy over Riko's death, after defeating Toji, Satoru quickly felt once more the sadness and regret he felt over failing to save her as he retrieved Riko's corpse with a sorrowful look, uncharacteristically being somber through the entire time and he was emotionally distraught to where he showed none of his previous haughty demeanor when he contemplated killing the Star Religious members that were laughing over Riko's death, simply stating that their laughter disgusted him to where he would feel nothing if he killed them.

His experiences with Riko greatly changed Satoru, but in a completely different manner than Suguru: Unlike Suguru, whose moral compass made him became disillusioned and embittered seeing the Star Globe ruthlessly laugh at Riko's corpse and eventually turned to the path of darkness, experiencing Riko's selflessness and compassion allowed Satoru to abandon his old ways of arrogantly believing himself above having to protect the weak, realizing that the very power that he has makes it his responsibility to protect those who cannot fight for themselves and keeping the balance of the world.

He has since became committed to protecting the lives of innocents and being a jujutsu sorcerer not for the sake of becoming the strongest but for the greater good and the sake of humans who can't defend themselves, to where he would take many dangerous missions without hesitation and no longer sought fame or glory, instead simply focusing on defeating curses to protect humanity, his change in demeanor and strength both impressing and alienating the increasingly darker Suguru until Satoru finally became a better man than Suguru.

His new-found moral compass was shown by how Satoru had adopted his friend's former moral code of not killing anyone without purpose, as he was clearly horrified and adamantly disapproving of Suguru's newfound ruthlessness and willingness to kill all non-sorcerer humans, seeing no meaning in sacrificing them for a better world, to where he was genuinely disgusted when Suguru nonchalantly reminded him he was capable of doing that, showing just how far he has come and how firmly he has committed himself to the protection of the weak. His newfound dedication to protect humanity and keep the balance ultimately lead to him being willing to kill Suguru, somberly accepting there was no other way and putting an end to the man he once saw as an equal and best friend after having spared him in Shinjuku.

In the present, Satoru still keeps his self-confidence but his arrogance has toned down to where he finally realizes being the strongest alone means nothing as even though he has the power to easily take over the world, more people like the higher ups that made the Jujutsu world he has grown disillusioned in would simply appear and he can't always protect the world, seeking to instead reform the jujutsu world from the bottom-up through education and seeking to foster a new generation of sorcerers that has the potential to one day become his equals. He even goes as far as to say that he doesn't mind being surpassed.

Towards sorcerer executives who rule the Jujutsu world he is disillusioned with, he is outright cruel and cold, retaining his old arrogant and uncaring demeanor but pairing it up with an outright bitter and ruthless tone, blatantly showing disrespect and being quite willing to remind he easily has the power to kill all of them. At the same time, his emotional maturity is also shown by how he is much kinder and more nurturing towards his students, to where he was distraught and enraged when he heard Yuji died and repeatedly shows care for protecting them. He even accepted being sealed by Kenjaku and maintained belief in his students, showing how humble he has become.

Satoru Gojo isn't like Yuji Itadori. I know he's capable of cold logic. He probably assumes some degrees of sacrifice is needed to make certain to exorcise us. But with both of the death count and number of living people rising, the scales determining what degree is acceptable can no longer function.
~ Mahito's thoughts on Gojo.

While in a crisis, he is capable of being cold-blooded and will prioritize his enemies' destruction over saving innocent people when he believes that the sacrifice is unavoidable, he has his limits as the Special Grade Curses accurately deduced in that he won't really harm innocents personally and indeed he was visibly dismayed when they threw countless people at him with Transfigured Humans around knowing his only choice would be to use his Domain Expansion to save all of Shibuya. Even though he could have easily killed them all, he instead chose to limit his Domain Expansion to give the innocents a chance to survive.

He cares for Megumi, Megumi is favored by him. After seeing Megumi has been taken over by Sukuna, Gojo vowed to free Megumi by defeating Sukuna.

Powers and Abilities[]

Immense Skill Level[]

Satoru Gojo vs

Satoru Gojo shows off his overwhelming power.

Satoru Gojo is acknowledged as the strongest Jujutsu Sorcerer in the series.

Even when he was still a student, Gojo was already such a powerful prodigy that his power was regarded as causing the balance to be disrupted and made curses stronger to maintain the balance, and his skill made him along with his best friend Suguru Geto the strongest students in Jujutsu High, capable of effortlessly handling multiple powerful and experienced curse users. After nearly dying and being defeated by Toji Fushigoro, the experience allowed Satoru to discover his true capabilities, massively increasing his prowess and power to where he could overwhelm and defeat the renowned Sorcerer Killer, whereas Suguru was easily defeated by him and fellow Special Grade Sorcerer Yuki later on stating it was a truly remarkable feat for Satoru to kill such a superhuman individual. Afterwards, he only continues to grow in power and skill to where he eventually earned his reputation as the strongest, acknowledged by even Suguru to have surpassed him a long way ago. Indeed, Suguru stated that Satoru could very well be capable of killing all humans, and didn't even try to fight back when Satoru was seemingly about to kill him, stating it's fully within his power.

In the present, Satoru's power and skill are feared by even the higher ups of the Jujutsu society, with neither of them being willing to challenge him directly as he could easily kill them all. He also effortlessly overpowered Ryoumen Sukuna and it was regarded even Sukuna at full power won't be able to beat him. The Special Grade Curses and Noritoshi Kamo are also shown to be wary of him, to where Noritoshi stated any of the Special Grades would surely die, including Jogo, the strongest of them, if they challenged him, as shown by how Satoru completely overwhelmed Jogo while not even trying to kill him, and Noritoshi stated to seal him away would require excessive planning and admitted outright there was no way for them to defeat him in combat directly. Even with the Curses having learned to actually counter his abilities, Satoru was still able to easily overwhelm their efforts despite being at a disadvantage due to the Curses endangering and leveraging human lives, killing Hanami while leaving the others in utter shock and awe over how truly powerful and skilled he is, and he is only defeated due to Noritoshi using the Prison Realm to seal him away.

Immense Cursed Energy and Unrivaled Cursed Energy Control[]

Satoru Gojo's reputation as the strongest Jujutsu Sorcerer is backed up by his immense superhuman levels of cursed energy, something which is further backed up due to his possession of the Six Eyes, granting him nearly supreme efficiency and control over his cursed energy, to the point that it is believed he can never run out of cursed energy. This allows him to stand a strong chance at winning against even those who are superior to him in terms of sheer reserves of cursed energy, such as Yuta Okkotsu, who acknowledged he would not be comparable to Gojo in terms of cursed energy despite having superior levels of cursed energy, and Ryomen Sukuna, whose cursed energy is double that of Yuta.

In terms of sheer cursed energy control, Satoru is capable of performing many delicate feats with ease, such as being one of the few capable of using both Domain Expansion and Reverse Cursed Technique, able to activate his Domain for only a split second and even be one of the few capable of casting Domain Expansion several times a day, and capable to even combine positive and negative cursed energy.

Six Eyes (六眼 Rikugan): Inhering this once-in-a-lifetime ocular jujutsu among the Gojo Family, it is the reason why Gojo Satoru is able to make such flawless and precise usage of the Limitless, the vast perception and immense brain processing power allowing him to precisely manipulate the sophisticated powers of the Limitless down to an atomic level and utilize the Limitless techniques' type of complex cursed energy manipulation to their maximum potential.

The mental prowess of the Six Eyes can turn one moment in reality into well over a minute's worth of time within his brain. Working well in tandem with the his enhanced sight, Gojo is able to analyze and calculate the positions of everything within view instantly and he can see things for several kilometers away, while easily able to distinctly tell apart different figures within their vast range.

It's ability to see cursed energy in extreme detail allows Gojo to see the flow of cursed energy in order to read another person's cursed techniques as well as differentiate between different types of cursed energy and identify a person based on it.

This also allows him to utilize the reverse cursed energy needed for Red as the Six Eyes helps him properly understand the complex nature of cursed energy needed to perform a reverse cursed technique.

Gojo has also been able to come up with ways to prevent the toll the Six Eyes' processing power has on him. He can use it to set the Limitless' Infinity ability to automatic to instantly read an incoming projectile danger using it's mass, speed, and shape among other factors, while simultaneously using the Six Eyes to calculate a reverse cursed technique automatically, to keep their brain fresh at all times. Although even with the use of a reverse cursed technique, the Six Eyes can still tire him out, he worked out a way to reduce it's drawbacks even further by covering his eyes, still able to see in a manner similar to a high resolution thermography. Objects that lack cursed energy can be discerned through the blindfold by reading the residuals and flow of the cursed energy surround them. It seems that he only needs to fully release the Six Eyes in order to utilize advanced Limitless techniques such as Hollow Purple and Unlimited Void.

Innate Technique[]

Limitless (無下限 Mukagen): At the base level, Limitless is an innate technique which is derived from the Gojo family. Having been naturally inherited, this technique works via precise manipulation of space at the atomic level, resulting in multiple subsequent results and techniques within the overall ability. With the manipulation of space as just the base level of the technique, Limitless has three standard and one "non-standard" form beyond this.

  • Infinity (無限 Mugen): Being the neutral form of the Limitless, the Infinity is commonly known as the ability to stop, although this is a common misconception as the true power of the Infinity is to slow things down. When something attempts to hit Satoru, the person or object in question instead hits the infinity between himself and them. According to Satoru, this is the convergence of an infinite series and comes straight from the paradox of Achilles and the tortoise. Akin to the way Achilles will never catch the tortoise due to the potential, infinite amounts of finite space separating them or how the real number one will never touch the real number two due to the infinite amount of fractions that separate them, the opponent will never touch Satoru due to the infinity between them. Satoru can decide what does and doesn't touch him and can do so based upon mass, speed, and danger ratings.
    • Cursed Technique Lapse: Blue (術式順転「蒼」 Jutsushiki Junten・Ao): The reinforced version of the neutral limitless; Blue is the byproduct of Gojo amplifying the Limitless and negative energy, producing a vacuum. Through these, Gojo creates a scenario where the world itself is forced to correct itself and fill in the negative space, causing things to be pulled together at the particular spot.
    • Cursed Technique Lapse Maximum Cursed Energy Output: Blue (術式順転出力最大「蒼」 Jutsushiki Junten Shutsuryoku Saidai・Ao): Satoru creates a center of gravity capable of attracting everything. He can also move the point of gravity at will.
    • Cursed Technique Reversal: Red (術式反転「赫」 Jutsushiki Hanten・Aka): Being an inversion of Blue, Red has the opposite effect. Using his reversal technique to invert the properties of Blue, Satoru activates the divergence of his infinity and causes a repulsive force. Being an ability that is powered by positive cursed energy and formed as a reverse curse technique, the ability has two times the destructive ability of Blue.
    • Blue Punch: Gojo infuse his punch with blue , yuta and hakari vomit after take his punch
    • Blue 8 obs: crush from all directions
    • Blue Sphere : Gojo summon orbs with his hand , it increases power of blue , cursed completely
    • Hollow Purple (虚式「茈」 Kyoshiki・Murasaki): Satoru snaps his fingers, combining "Blue" (attraction) and "Red" (repulsion), firing an invisible force that erases all matter in its path.
  • "Domain Expansion: Unlimited Void"

Unlimited/Infinite Void (無量空処 Muryōkūsho): Gojo's Domain Expansion. It creates a metaphysical space that causes the victims to receive all kinds of stimuli and information endlessly, restraining their thought processes and actions. Gojo's control over his Domain is so fine that he can activate it for only 0.2 seconds, limiting its lasting effect on those he traps within it. Those he makes physical contact with are also immune to its effect.

Physical Abilities[]

Master Hand-to-Hand Combatant: Satoru has displayed incredible levels of martial arts prowess: His Limitless aside, he displays a highly methodical and refined fighting style, precisely striking at the enemy's weak point and skillfully using martial arts techniques. This is shown by how not only did he easily overwhelm and tossed aside Jogo with multiple physical strikes, but even with his Limitless deactivated, he is still quite able to easily overpower both Jogo and Hanami, shocking them with his combat prowess. Even while suffering severe injuries from Sukuna's Malevolent Shrine, he was still able to effectively fight off the King of Curses in close-range combat, impressing Sukuna with his resilience and skill in hand-to-hand combat. He was also a capable teacher in martial arts, as he successfully trained Yuji and Megumi both to become powerful hand-to-hand fighters.

Immense Strength: Satoru possesses tremendous physical strength to easily overpower powerful curses without a problem, delivering powerful punches and throwing Jogo a considerable distance with a single kick during their fight, as well as easily breaking off Jogo's arm and ripping off Hanami's roots as well as later on tearing apart transfigured humans effortlessly, As an Adult during his fight against Ryomen Sukuna showed his Physical Prowess surpassed that of Maki Zenin and Toji Fushiguro who both have Heavenly Restrictions that heightened their senses and physical power to the maximum.

After dismissing his domain, the strongest sorcerer of the modern age slaughterred all of the roughly 1,000 transfigured humans unleashed upon B5F in 299 seconds.
~ Satoru activating his domain only for 0.2 seconds to slaughter all one thousand transfigured humans among innocents in 5 minute.

Immense Speed: Satoru is an extremely fast fighter, managing to follow the movements of Jogo effortlessly and throwing almost imperceptible punches and kicks. He was shown to be able to move faster than the eye can perceive. However, an even more impressive feat was showcased when Satoru eliminated a thousand transfigured humans in a matter of about five minutes.

Immense Durability and Endurance: While scarcely considerably injured, Gojo has demonstrated astonishingly incredible levels of durability and resilience. He was able to keep fighting after being stabbed by Toji Fushiguro through the chest, and even survive having his throat stabbed and then his torso slashed down, instead going through a revolution that dramatically increased his powers. Years later, he was miraculously able to withstand the effects of Sukuna's Malevolent Shrine with his cursed energy weakened from casting and losing a Domain duel with only minor slashes all over his body and remain fully combat capable, shrugging off his injuries long enough to cast Reverse Cursed Technique on himself.

Great Intellect and Knowledge[]

While generally straightforward, Satoru has repeatedly proven to be exceptionally intelligent and tactical, with a proven ability to figure out his opponent's plan with minimum information and great competence in adapting to any enemy and situation, knowing precisely what to do to counter their techniques and find ways to defeat them.

During his rematch with Toji Fushiguro, Satoru was able to deduce that Toji came from the Zenin Clan due to his knowledge of his cursed technique and abilities, and came up with a successful plan to capitalize on Toji's pride and incomplete knowledge using the Purple Technique few knew of, successfully neutralizing what would have been a successful strike and killing the Sorcerer Killer.

Over the years, Satoru became familiar with the way of thinking used by jujutsu elders and how disorganized the jujutsu world is and managed to efficiently avoid and put them in their place even without using his power to easily kill them. With such foresight, he was able to easily deduce the jujutsu elders had planned to kill Yuji and discredit him by having the other first-years killed and he proved capable of foiling their efforts to try again, keeping Yuji's whereabouts hidden until he decided to reveal his survival and even anticipating the possibility of a temporary defeat leaving him unable to protect Yuji, thus coming up with a strategy by telling Yuta to take care of Yuji should he be defeated.

During his participation in the Shibuya Incident, although outsmarted by Kenjaku's elaborate plan to seal him away, in his combat exchanges with Jogo, Hanami, Choso, and Mahito, Satoru proved capable of thinking his way efficiently out of the various approaches used by his direct opponents to fend off and overwhelm Jogo, Hanami, Choso and Mahito while limiting property damage and casualty to minimum. Faced with Jogo and Hanami's efforts to use Domain Amplification, Satoru swiftly came up with a decisively successful plan by easily deceiving Hanami into undoing his Domain Amplification by putting up a facade of attacking Jogo and using hand-to-hand combat and then goading Jogo into stopping his attack by threatening to kill Hanami, accurately anticipating the shock of Hanami's death would stop Jogo from carrying out his threats to kill any innocents. He even managed to neutralize their ultimate strategy of endangering innocents and seemingly putting him in a situation to where his only option is to use Unlimited Void and kill them all by quickly coming up with a strategy to only use his Domain Expansion for a brief amount of time.

Quotes[]

Nah, I'd win.
~ Gojo answering that he would win against Sukuna, a simple line that quickly became one of the most famous one in the series.
It's a good night when someone dies a normal death after encountering a curse. Finding a body that's all torn apart is on the better end of the outcomes. If you plan to hunt down Sukuna, you're going to witness some gruesome scenes, and I can't guarantee you won't end up that way yourself. So choose your hell.
~ Satoru Gojo to Yuji Itadori.
You've seen plenty of jujutsu sorcerers, even those with talent, give up in frustration because they couldn't conquer their fear or disgust, haven't you? So today I want to confirm how crazy she is.
~ Satoru to Megumi Fushiguro about Nobara Kugisaki.
Nice. She is crazy, all right.
~ Satoru's conclusion about Nobara.
Searching for someone to blame is just a pain. Maybe I should just... kill all of the higher-ups.
~ Satoru after finding out that Yuji died because the higher-ups intentionally sent his students on a mission that would get him killed.
No one's allowed to take the events of the youth away from young people. Not anyone.
~ Satoru Gojo.
The wave of power you guys have been trying to hold back with your pointless status and traditions has grown bigger than you can handle and is now descending upon us. You won't be able to measure the coming age with the classification of "special-grade". If you think I'm the only one who'll be fighting back, you're going to get hurt, old man.
~ Satoru to Yoshinobu Gakuganji.
But no matter how many allies you have around you, when you die, you'll be alone.
~ Satoru to Megumi.
Dying to win and risking death to win... are completely different, Megumi. Give it your best. Be greedier.
~ Satoru to Megumi.
This is my personal theory, but there's no curse more twisted than love.
~ Satoru to Yuta Okkotsu in Jujutsu Kaisen 0.
Christ, damn rude geezers. I don't ever want to become like them. I'll have to be careful. Besides, no one's allowed to take the youth away from young people. No one is.
~ Satoru about the higher-ups wanting to execute Yuta.
My best friend. The only one I had.
~ Satoru to Yuta about Suguru Geto.
Yo. Long time no see.
~ Satoru to Toji Fushiguro after using RCT to revive himself.
But apparently, it's not good enough for me just to be strong. The only ones I can save are those who are already ready to be saved by another.
~ Satoru to Masamichi Yaga about not being able to save Suguru.

Trivia[]

Gojo Satoru death memorial chile santiago

Gojo's memorial held in Chile.

  • Gojo's reaction getting sealed into the prison realm in Episode 10, Season 2 of the anime is most likely a reference to Episode 309 of the Bleach anime, when Sōsuke Aizen was also about to get sealed.
  • Along with numerous memes being made from the series, Gojo's line in Chapter 221 of the manga, "Nah, I'd win" can be undoubtly considered as one of the most hyped jokes from manga and anime series. It is a reference to one of earliest chapter of the series when he was asked whether he would win or not against Sukuna. This line has also led to the creation to numerous other repetitive lines across medias as the second season anime's popularity rised up.
    • That specific panel of Gojo saying "Nah I'd win" has also been duplicated into countless other fanarts of other fictional characters with the same facial expression.
  • The author of the series, Gege Akutami, has been known by the fandom to harbor some kind of dislike for Gojo as a character, due to having written his overall capabilities to be overpowerful. As a result, his presence only makes the story more challenging for Gege to write.[1]
  • In reaction to his ultimate brutal death against Sukuna, fans of the series have even organized a memorial just for the character at Santiago in Chile.
    • For similar reactions, his death even impacted the author of another manga series, Fly Me to the Moon, Kenjiro Hata, to the point it pushed him to make his series go on hiatus for being "too shocking".

  • Out of coincidence, after Chapter 261 of the manga, Gojo met the same fate as Geto after their death, as both two best friends had their body possessed by someone else respectively.
  • The American rapper and Grammy Award winner, Megan Thee Stallion, who is also a famous anime enthusiast, released a song on June 27 titled "Otaku Hot Girl", which directly referenced several elements from Jujutsu Kaisen, including having Gojo and Sukuna's names in the lyrics numerous times and using a line of Yuji's English voice actor as well as Season 1's original soundtrack. This was followed by her posting herself cosplaying Gojo on her social media accounts later on.[2]
