Sayoko Uehara is a supporting protagonist in the video game Persona 4. She works at the Inaba Muncipal Hospital as a nurse. She befriends Yu Narukami as he starts working as a janitor at the hospital. She represents the Devil Arcana in her Social Link.
She was voiced by Natsuko Kuwatani in the Japanese version, and by Wendee Lee in the English version.
Biography[]
Flirting with Yu at first, Sayoko opens up to him and reveals her backstory. Because of her behavior, she dated a married doctor that ended up flirting with other girls even though she left him behind. After dealing with the doctor's wife, things get worse for her after hearing that a patient of hers in the last hospital died. She feels extremely saddened by the news that she becomes a workaholic, demanding everyone to do their very best, and eventually collapses from exhaustion.
By the end of her Social Link, Sayoko realizes that she was trying to flee from her feelings by working hard, and that she was losing her goal to care for others, and she gives Yu her Hospital ID, allowing him to fuse Beelzebub. Before the ending, Yu hears that she joined a medical association and went to Africa, as well as the fact that she genuinely had a crush on him.
Appearance[]
Sayoko has short dark hair tied into a ponytail, with brown eyes and a mole on the left of her chin. She wears a nurse's outfit, including a short white dress and a light pink blazer, donning a nursing cap as well. She is typically seen carrying a clipboard.
Personality[]
Sayoko seems like a flirtatious and mischievous person on the outside, but as Yu gets to know her she begins to show her true nature as a very lonely and depressed person, expressing sadness when her patients leave either when they get better or when they die. Her love of helping people was lost somewhere along her career, but her passion was rekindled through her interactions with Yu.
