“ | Over... Everything's over, you say? If you had just accepted Rolling Stones, everything would've ended peacefully. We're all slaves to fate. We cannot change what has already taken shape. I don't know who they are, but now they're going to face a difficult path, and some of them will lose their lives. But... are they all like this? He jumped from up there to destroy the rock for his friend, Bucciarati. The path filled with hardships that they're about to walk, might have some meaning. Their hardships may end up being someone else's hope and might be the beginning to some greater meaning. I can't wish for their safety, but I pray that they are sleeping slaves. Sleeping slaves who will find some meaning once they awaken. | „ |
~ Scolippi's monologue in his final appearance |
Scolippi is a minor character of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure Part V: Golden Wind. He is a sculptor who is investigated by Team Bucciarati on the presumption that he murdered his girlfriend. Scolippi spends the entirety of the arc trying to convince Guido Mista not to resist fate, despite Mista's defiance.
Powers[]
Rolling Stones[]
Scolippi's stand, Rolling Stones, is fully automatic, and Scolippi has no control over it. It takes the form of a rock whose power is seeking out people who are fated to die, to which the rock will track down and change its shape to mimic the face of the soon-to-be-deceased. Should the victim touch the rock, they will die instantly without pain, as if to be "spared" a potentially agonizing death. It is impossible to change the premonition presented by the stone, as breaking it will still display the prediction, and the original victim will still die as fate predicted. Those who are not portrayed by Rolling Stones are not fated to die, and therefore cannot die, as evident when Mista's gun jammed when he tried shooting Scolippi, and when Mista survived a fall from a tall building as he tried to destroy the stone.
History[]
Not much is known about Scolippi's backstory. At some point in his life, he became a sculptor and met the beautiful daughter of a local Neapolitan florist, who turned into his girlfriend. Presumably in the September of 2000, Scolippi's girlfriend discovered from Rolling Stones that she was fated to die, and chose to commit suicide by jumping off the roof of his apartment building with the rock. The police was quick to dismiss the incident, but the florist continued to seek closure on his daughter's death.
Six months later, on March 29, the florist met with Bruno Bucciarati and pleaded for his own investigation into the case. Bucciarati selected Guido Mista and Pannacotta Fugo to accompany him to Scolippi's apartment. However, Mista continuously saw Rolling Stones following the trio, and became increasingly paranoid, having heard the florist's story. When he felt like something isn't right, Bucciarati decided to follow Mista into the apartment building.
Scolippi was in the elevator when Mista confronted him. After incapacitating the man, Mista pushed Scolippi for an explanation to Bucciarati's face appearing on the stone, to which he explained his stand's powers and that Bucciarati was fated to die. He soon fell unconscious as Rolling Stones relentlessly pursued Bucciarati in an attempt to offer the gangster a quick and painless death.
Following the destruction of Rolling Stones, Scolippi overheard Bucciarati, Mista and Fugo discussing the incident amongst themselves as they withdrawed from the property. Scolippi provided an internal monologue where he challenged Mista's defiance of fate, but respected his tenacity and resolve in saving his friend. Wondering if "they (were) all like this", Scolippi predicted a difficult future for Team Bucciarati and prayed they were "sleeping slaves would find some meaning once they awakened".
