Hero Overview

I know it's probably not the best time to have this realization, but I probably shouldn't have been dating you in the first place. Apparently a 23-year-old dating a high schooler is frowned upon by society.

Scott Pilgrim is the titular deuteragonist of the 2023 Netflix original anime Scott Pilgrim Takes Off, a reimagining of the original Scott Pilgrim comics and film.

After meeting the girl of his dreams, Ramona Flowers, his concert is interrupted by her first Evil Ex Matthew Patel, who challenges him to a fight. During the fight, Scott is seemingly killed, but it turns out he was actually kidnapped and teleported to the future by his older self.

He is voiced by Michael Cera in the original English version, who reprises his role as Scott from the 2010 film Scott Pilgrim vs. The World. As a teenager, he is voiced by Finn Wolfhard, also played Trevor Spengler in Ghostbusters: Afterlife, Richie Tozier in It, Mike Wheeler in Stranger Things and Player Bouchard in Carmen Sandiego (2019). In the Japanese dub, he is voiced by Hiro Shimono.

Biography[]

Despite being the titular character, Scott transitions into the role of the deuteragonist while Ramona assumes the role of the protagonist. Initially following the storyline of "Scott Pilgrim's Precious Little Life," an unidentified portal transports Scott to the future, courtesy of Robot-01. In "2 Scott 2 Pilgrim," it's revealed that his future self pulled him into the future to prevent him from confronting the Evil Exes due to Future Scott's inability to cope with the heartbreak stemming from a split with Ramona. Scott discovers Ramona investigating his disappearance through Robot-01 and convinces Future Wallace to help him return to the past. Reunited with Ramona in the present, Scott confesses that he was the one who created the portal.

During his adventure, Scott encounters an older version of himself in a battle within the Dream Desert and promises Ramona that he won't become that older version. Even Older Ramona arrives to confront Even Older Scott, and the two Ramona's fuse into Super Ramona, aiding Scott in defeating the older version of himself. In the epilogue, Scott reunites with Ramona and their friends for a hangout session.

Personality[]

Scott's personality contrasts very much with his original counterpart. Despite his reduced role in the series, he emerges as a much nicer and more empathetic individual. Witnessing the plight of his future self serves as a catalyst for self-reflection, inspiring him to strive for personal growth and redemption. In his encounter with Matthew, rather than resorting to violence, Scott attempts to peacefully resolve the conflict through dialogue, showcasing his newfound maturity and empathy. His willingness to acknowledge his mistakes and seek ways to rectify them is evident when he questions what went wrong in his past actions and how to make amends.

Scott's capacity for genuine empathy is further demonstrated through his bond with Robot-01, despite the latter's role in his abduction. He harbors no ill will towards Robot-01, illustrating his forgiving nature and ability to see beyond past grievances. Moreover, Scott displays a compassionate and supportive demeanor towards Future Ramona during moments of self-doubt, offering reassurance and acknowledging her positive impact on his past self's transformation.

Upon his return to the future, Scott takes immediate steps to make amends for his past transgressions, apologizing to Knives for his infidelity and mistreatment. His sincerity is met with acceptance from Knives, reflecting his commitment to personal growth and accountability. During his confrontation with Older Scott, Scott prioritizes protecting Ramona over personal pride, swiftly coming to her aid despite the physical disadvantage he faces. His refusal to succumb to the negative traits exhibited by his future self underscores his determination to break free from his past mistakes and strive towards a brighter future.

Overall, Scott's evolution throughout the series highlights his journey towards self-improvement and redemption, characterized by empathy, accountability, and a genuine desire to become a better person. His transformation is marked by a departure from his previous jerkish behavior, reflecting a newfound maturity and understanding of the impact of his actions on those around him.

Appearance[]

Scott is a young fair-skinned man of average height and build. He's consistently portrayed as having relatively short, tawny hair with thick black eyebrows.

Scott seems very laid back with his sense of style, with him usually wearing casual outfits with denim pants and sneakers. Due to this, Scott sports various t-shirts throughout the series. One of his most iconic ones is a green shirt with the print of a heart with his initials in the middle, which is also a "smashing pumpkins" t-shirt - similar to that of the "Zero" shirt he can be seen wearing - This is also his default appearance in the game.

Due to the cold weather of Toronto, Scott is constantly seen with a navy parka with a fuzzy hood whenever he is seen outside. The coat also has the symbol of the X-Men sewn into his right shoulder, which is implied to have been sewn by Scott himself
