~ Scratch complaining & also his famous quote.
“
You know what? You're right. Molly's way too chipper in the morning. (...) And she thinks helping others is the most important thing in the world. (...) She thinks you could have more fun being nice, than you can have being mean! Which is just crazy. And here's something even crazier: She's right. And I like her for it! She's my friend and I'm hers! And I don't care who knows it!

~ Scratch standing up to the Ghost council while expressing how much Molly and her cheerful personality means to him.
Todd Mortenson, nicknamed Scratch, is the titular deuteragonist of the 2021 Disney Channel show The Ghost and Molly McGee.
He used to be a normal guy whose soul eventually left his body when his fear of facing the dangers of seeing the world got the better of him and became a wraith. Going by his childhood nickname "Scratch", he would eventually work under the employment of the Chairman: the head honcho of the ghost world as a misery bringer to his hometown of Brighton for years, that is until a chance meeting with a happy-go-lucky girl named Molly McGee where he would accidentally bound himself with Molly forever, Scratch would once again open-up to others & continue living again
As a human, Scratch is completely pale with very flabby cheeks and arms alike, he also shows a nicely shaven haircut, he also has wrinkles on his forehead, inner cheeks and under his eyes nose up on his face.
As a wraith, Scratch is a light blue ghost with green teeth, a large neon blue nose, yellow-green eyes with small black pupils and a purple tongue. Scratch's body is translucent and typically appears lumpy but he is able to change in shape and size when he wants to, for example when attempting to scare Molly and her family. His color appears more translucent while he is invisible, meaning he is only visible to the people he chooses. He has been shown to be able to give himself legs and manifest bugs onto his body if he wanted to.
Personality[]
At the start of the series, Scratch is shown to be a grumpy, pessimistic ghost whose joy comes from spreading misery (due to his job at least). Prior to the McGee family arriving in Brighton, he was largely a loner and greatly values his privacy, but that changed Molly came into his afterlife & when one of his spells backfired, he finds himself forever cursed in her presence, which he finds completely embarrassing & horrifying.
But as the series goes on, initially finding Molly's personality completely annoying at first, Scratch soon grows fond of the human girl & her family, which is especially shown when they eventually do move out & the curse is broken, he shows genuine sadness over his new friend's departure. Additionally, Molly's presence soon gives Scratch enough courage to open his life to others again & gains many more friends, human & ghost alike, than he ever did.
Biography[]
Past[]
Back in childhood, Todd, better known as Scratch, hung out with his childhood friend Adia in the town of Brighton they pretended to be on adventures, sadly Adia and her family was forced to move out of town & Todd would continue to grow up alone. By their adulthood, Aida went to travel around the world but Scratch/Todd stayed behind at home and worked in a business due to his fear of what might happen if he was traveling. Over time, Aida kept trying to convince him to go on adventures around the world but Scratch was too scared to go and after many attempts to convince, Aida decided to not try to convince him anymore. Realizing that he threw his chance away at traveling and being with his friend, Scratch/Todd felt into a depression and gave up on his life, causing his spirit to leave his body, become a wraith and enter the ghost world with no memory of his own life.
While in the Ghost World, Todd would believe that his nickname Scratch was his real name and began going by it, where he would be acquainted to many of the inhabitants there like the ghost of the former president of America Abraham Lincoln and the annoying blowhard Ezekiel Tugbottom, but he got the attention of another ghost named Geoff who would come to believe that they're best friends, much to his annoyance. However at some point down the line, Scratch would come under the employment of the master of the Ghost World the Chairman, where he was tasked to make humans in his hometown as miserable as possible & is forced to keep is that way because the Chairman threatens to banish him to the Flow of failed phantoms, a chain created by him to any ghosts who fail his standards, so he would continue to scare people until one day his afterlife would change forever.
The Ghost and Molly McGee[]
The Curse[]
One day after scaring a bunch of people, Scratch is summoned by the Ghost Council as the last ghost they need to review for the day, who thank him for scaring people in Brighton, in which he thanked the Council for congratulating them, as he's about to join them at a party, he gets sent back to Brighton.
A little while later, he finds an unexpected surprise when a new Family named the McGees move into Brighton and move into his house as their new home, Scratch tries to stop them from moving on, only to by hit by a door as the older daughter Molly comes upstairs, but he finds it even more surprising when he sees that not only is she barely scared of him one-bit, but that she immediately tries to befriend him. Seeing she won't leave him alone, Scratch decides to curse her into making her go away, except said curse specifically says that "he'll be there to haunt her" but because she doesn't find him nowhere scary, she pretty much sees this as a blessing & him realizing to late that he pretty much cursed himself, he tries to fly away from her, but he witnesses firsthand just how the curse works that when Molly calls his name, he immediately floats right back at her, which only makes his current situation worse.
Needing to get this curse broken fast, Scratch races back to the Ghost world to get help from the Chairman's minions, the Barrister Ghosts, on how to get it done, to which they simply tell him that all he needs to do is get Molly to scare the other occupants in his house away, but since he knows (at the time, at least) Molly is anything but scary, Scratch learns the other way to get the curse broken is to simply scare the home owners. With that set in mind, Scratch heads back to the human world and proceeds to scare the McGees away, but before he can be successful Molly earns a bit of his trust when he offers Scratch a bit of food, which is enough for her family to let him stay & Scratch to tolerate them, along with a spirit house (something Molly's grandma suggests using to deal with the ghost) for him to live in.
First Day Frights[]
The following morning, Scratch finds another way to scare Molly out of the house for good by playing on her social anxiety during her first day at her new school, but his efforts were not necessarily needed to give Molly "the worst first day in the history of first days" as she flubs things herself by mispronouncing the name of the most popular girl in school, Andrea Davenport, twice.
Just when it seems that Molly's as good as packed, however, he hears someone call her "the worst of the worst"-- something he has been called in the ghost world on a regular basis-- triggering feelings of guilt in him for the first time in his (after)life and causing him to, quite reluctantly, possess said popular girl, Andrea, to not only make people think she doesn't care about how her name is said anymore, but also undo the outcast effect she put on both Molly and Libby (who got shunned for the same reason as Molly since first grade).
After school, Molly confronts Scratch about it in a sing-song manner, and while he denied it and claimed they'd both end up in jail if he didn't help, she constantly teased him with the fact that he actually cares about her as only a true friend would.
