Scrounge is a supporting character who appeared in Issue #17 of the Marvel US Transformers comic.
He was created by Bob Budiansky and Don Perlin.
Biography[]
Scrounge was one of the Autobots based on Cybertron. He acted as a spy, carrying out surveillance on Decepticon operations, using his "special hand" to tap into their base and record their conversations. He worked closely with Blaster, who considered him a friend, but the other Autobots didn't consider him a reliable source of information.
Scrounge and Blaster made an attempt to find out the whereabouts of the missing Cybertronian scientist Spanner. Scrounge tapped into the Decepticon headquarters' security system and, although he found no information on Spanner, did manage to record information on a mysterious transmission the Decepticons had received. He set off to meet Blaster but was intercepted by senior Decepticon Shrapnel and taken prisoner. After a brief interrogation by Cybertronian Decepticon leader Lord Straxus, who tore off his arm, he was sentenced to be executed in the smelting pool, where captives were melted down.
Scrounge was eventually found by Blaster but was already half-melted by his time in the smelting pool, with only the upper half of his body remaining. He told Blaster that the information he had obtained was more important and gave him the recording. Realising Scrounge was beyond saving, Blaster reluctantly abandoned him as he was airlifted to safety by Powerglide. Scrounge's information did however prove crucial to the Cybertronian Autobots as they learned the legendary Autobot leader Optimus Prime was alive on Earth.
Trivia[]
- Although he only appeared in one issue of the comic, Scrounge's death would haunt Blaster for some months afterwards: He appeared in flashback in Issue #29 when Blaster recalled having to let him die for the sake of the Autobot cause.
