~ Searcher Clade
Searcher Clade is the main protagonist of Disney's 61st animated feature film Strange World.
He is the biological son of Jaeger and Penelope Clade, the stepson of Sheldon, the husband of Meridian Clade and the father of Ethan Clade. He is also used to be an explorer before abandoning it to become a Pando farmer.
He was voiced by Jake Gyllenhaal, who also portrayed Prince Dastan in Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, Sam Hall in The Day After Tomorrow, Jack Twist in Brokeback Mountain, Donnie Darko in the film of the same name, Danny Sharp in Ambulance, and voiced Jim Prescott Jr. in Spirit Untamed.
Searcher Clade is an adult with light skin, brown hair, stubble on his face, brown eyebrows, and brown eyes.
As a young teen, Searcher wore a brown winter jacket with fur, pants boots, and gloves while carrying a large brown backpack, along with his face being covered in light freckles to signify his youth.
He wears a green shirt with gray sleeves, turquoise green pants with a red string on the belt loop and blue shoes.
Personality[]
Unlike his father Jaeger, Searcher is not daring, particularly brave, and doesn't have much enthusiasm when it comes to exploring, but is rather curious in discovering new types of flora and fauna, which became useful for providing everyone with electricity, particularly when he discovers a type of plant named "Pando". Later, he became more brave and helped restore Avalonia when he, Jaeger and Ethan rebounded.
Searcher is a devoted family man where he showed affection towards his wife and son. Searcher is willing to provide his family and community by growing and reproducing Pando to provide them electricity while not letting the idea of fame get into his head, much like his father did. Searcher also dedicates himself to caring for his son, Ethan whom he deeply loved as Searcher wanted him to his own person, something which he had felt his own father did not seem to let him do. While Searcher loved and accepted Ethan for who he is, he did intend to embarrass his son in front of his friends and crush, Diazo without recognizing the boundaries Ethan had for his age. Searcher also failed to consider what Ethan wanted to do for the rest of his life, believing that being a farmer was the option and fearing Ethan would become just like his grandfather. However, during an argument with Ethan, in which Ethan used the exact words he told his own father before they parted ways, Searcher realized he had become exactly like Jaeger by not considering what Ethan wanted to be and what he wanted to do for the rest of his life. As a result, Searcher apologized and reconciled with Ethan, allowing him to live a life away from their farm while maintaining his strong relationship with him.
Biography[]
Searcher Clade and his father Jaeger are adventurers who brave the wilderness to explore new worlds. While trying to traverse one of the mountains, Searcher discovers a plant that gives off green energy. Jaeger insists on continuing the quest, but Searcher and the rest of the expedition team believe that the new plant, dubbed Pando, is good enough. Jaeger angrily continues his mission alone.
Twenty-five years later, Searcher has made a name for himself by harvesting Pando and turning it into a fuel resource for Avalonia. He is married to fellow harvester Meridian and they have a son named Ethan. The next day Searcher encounters Callisto Mal, the leader of Avalonia who was one of Jeager's former expedition teammates, shows up in a giant airship called the Venture and informs the Clades that the Pando is losing its power, meaning that they need Searcher to help find the cause. He joins a new expedition team to travel into a giant sinkhole where giant roots of Pando have been located.
On the way down, Meridian tries catching up in her crop duster after Ethan and their dog Legend have sneaked aboard the ship. Ethan wanted to come with Searcher but was short lasted when they are attacked by red wyvern-like creatures, continuing to head down until they break through the crust and end up in a subterranean world. As Searcher and Legend are separated from the group during the crash, they get attacked by a creature called a Reaper only to be rescued by Jaeger who has been living underground all these years, revealing that he has tried taking advantage of traversing under the mountain, but is blocked off by an acidic ocean that he cannot cross. He decides to help look for the Venture as a means to cross it. later searcher reunites with Eathan who's with splat after they were attack by more reapers. They are soon rescued by Meridian and Callisto who outrun the creatures and return to the Venture. Searcher insists on completing their mission while Jaeger wants to continue journeying across the Strange World. Callisto agrees to help fix the ship so that they can continue traveling. During this time, Ethan realizes that Searcher and Jaeger do not see eye-to-eye and he becomes frustrated with them and their opposing views.
After another wild encounter, Searcher and Jaeger finally have a heart-to-heart talk and realize that they do respect each other's goals in life. They finally encounter a root cluster of where the Pando is as it is being attacked by the creatures. Believing that the Pando is fighting back, they decide to try and help it. Searcher and Jaeger have another argument over Jaeger's influence on Ethan that ends with Ethan angrily leaving. Searcher follows him aboard a small flying vehicle, but as they are making up, they realize that they are floating above an endless ocean and are in front of a giant eye with a mountain on top of it. The two realize that Avalonia is on the back of a giant turtle-like creature whose body they have been traveling through, and that the Pando is an illness that needs to be destroyed. They head back to inform everyone about it, but they are in disbelief with Jaeger angrily leaving to see for himself and Callisto and the team locking up the Clades to prevent them from stopping their mission. Luckily, Legend and Splat release the family.
To stop the Pando from killing the world, Searcher and Ethan head to the root cluster, which is actually the heart, while Meridian takes over the ship and finally convinces Callisto. Jaeger, after having a change of heart, returns, and they break through the Pando. Creatures suddenly appear and bring the heart back to life, saving the land, but losing the Pando power source. One year later, Searcher and Jaeger's relationship has improved when they work together on the farm.

Trivia[]
Searcher is one of the few Disney protagonists to have both of parents still alive.
Searcher is similar to Marlin from the Finding Nemo franchise. Both are overprotective fathers who deeply love and care about their sons, but their overprotectiveness and expectations of their sons cause them to have a slight strained relationships with them. In the end, both are able to realize the error of their ways and reconcile with their sons, strengthening their relationships with them.
At the end of the film, Searcher's statue is still in the town square of Avalonia. The reason why is unclear as Pando was discovered to be dangerous, but it is possible the people of Avalonia decided to keep Searcher's statue up as he not changed their lifestyles, but also saved their continent.
