Seiko Ayase is one of the tritagonists of the 2021 supernatural manga series Dandadan and its 2024 anime adaptation. She is a renowned spirit medium who goes by the alias of Santa Dodoria and the grandmother of Momo Ayase.
She is voiced by Nana Mizuki in Japanese and Kari Wahlgren in English.
Appearance[]
Despite being a grandmother, Seiko rather appears to be an attractive and athletic woman of great physique in a casual attire. She has long white hair, typically tied in a high topknot facing the top with a pink tie. She wears a pair of red- half-rimmed glasses. Her typical clothing comprises of a light yellow weather buttoned up, revealing her cleavage. Over it, she sports a blue jacket with white accents. She has a black scarf draped around her neck with a black cape, that's red underneath, behind her. She wears a pair of beige sandals at her feets. It has not been revealed yet why or how Seiko manage to maintain a youthful appearance despite being a grandmother.
Personality[]
“ | An old hag calling another old hag a "dirty old hag." I hate hypocrites. | „ |
~ Seiko's first counter to Turbo-Granny. |
Seiko is a stoic and composed woman who chooses to speak in a uncouth way. Although not obvious at first, Seiko has a great sense of altruism and valiance, aiding those in need without anything in desire from them, denying Okraun's compensation after helping him from his curse.
Despite her willingness to help others, Seiko avoids asking for help herself, showing pride and independence. She can also appear immature at times, teasing her granddaughter or making lighthearted jokes, but acts polite when she feels she has made a mistake. Fitting her role as the grandmother of Momo, Seiko strongly believes that grow-ups must support the youths, feeling saddened when she failed to assist Jiji in his challenge against the Evil Eye. Being a spirit medium, Seiko respects the balance between the living and the deceased, enforcing rules and prompted to exorcise the malicious spirits if they're harmful to the livings.
She seems lethargic, largely laying around the house and smoking, but she is capable of rapid movement if provoked or needed to help out, although when possible she withholds combat support due to believing that the younger generation would be better off learning how to fight their own battles, rather than completely rely on her. In terms of emotional support, she is exceptionally compassionate, yet typically channels this through tough love. Similarly, she is always direct about danger faced when asked, as she believes honesty is best to help remedy a situation, rather than attempting to placate the questioner with a white lie.
