Sein is a major character in the fantasy adventure anime and manga series Frieren: Beyond Journey's End.
He is a priest from his hometown village located in the Alt Woods. He met the elven mage Frieren when he got himself stuck in a puddle of quicksand and decided to join her party after he displayed his skills in healing magic by healing her successor, Stark. Although he initially refused, he ended up accepting to accompany her, Stark, and Fern, as the party's fourth member, to meet his childhood in the past by the name of "Gorilla Warrior".
He is voiced by Yuichi Nakamura and Natsumi Kawaida in his youth in Japanese and Christopher Wehkamp in English.
Appearance[]
Sein is an average-look middle-aged man with green-colored eyes, a bit of beard on his chin, and long brown hair often tied in a low ponytail. The front of his hair are bangs that are separated from the middle. He has a well-built body. His attire of choice is usually an European robe.
In cold environments, Sein is seen sporting a jacket of green color.
Personality[]
Sein is a collected and not-very expressive man with a regular sense of an adult. He demonstrates keen insight into human emotions, quickly grasping relationship dynamics. As the only actual grown-up individual within Frieren's Party, he offers advice to Stark and Fern to aid in their reconciliation, serving more as the mature figure of the group. It isn't rare for him to smile occasionally. He enjoys engaging in casual conversation with the rest of the party, making his comrades guessing what kind of members they are lacking in their party. As his friend could not make a guess of what he believes the group is lacking, he expresses his strong desire to have a good-looking woman by their sides. By practise, he can sometimes be somewhat mischievous when expressing what he wants.
Like most men of his village, he has a hobby of gambling despite having gotten his stuff taken away in the past as a result of losing to his opponents in gambling. His collected manner mostly remain the same even when he steps into an irregular situation, such as when he and the rest of the party discovered a village filled with its unconscious residents. He has displayed some level of knowledge in monsters, curses and magic. Maintaining his calm, he is also very strategic and alert in battles, conceiving strategies to save his party members and the rest of the villagers who were unconscious while he was facing the plant monster that was the source of their unconsciousness.
Abilities[]
- High Intellect and Observance: Sein is intellectual in monsters, having been able to figuring out the source and cause of the unconsciousness of the villagers and his party members, a plant monster.
- High Reflexes: Sein can be shown to effortlessly dodge a plant monster's tentacles.
- Goddess's Magic: Sein has access to Goddess's magic, as a priest from texts in books.
- Healing Magic: Along with that, Sein is also capable of healing others with ease, including from poisons and even curses, as shown when he removed Stark's poison in the blink of an eye.
- Curse Resistance: Sein is resistant to curses, allowing him to remain conscious unlike the rest of her party members who fell asleep because of the plant monster nearby.

- Spellbook: Sein tends to keep a spell book in his pocket that he uses to cast magic spells.
