Seiya Ryuuguuin (In Japanese: 竜宮院 聖哉, Ryūgūin Seiya) is the titular main protagonist of the light novel, manga and anime series Cautious Hero: The Hero Is Overpowered But Overly Cautious. He also has a cameo appearance in the second season of Isekai Quartet, a crossover anime which features characters from the "Isekai" genre of anime.
Originally from Japan, Seiya was summoned by the Goddess Ariadoa to save the B-Class world of Ixphoria from the clutches of the detestable Demon Lord. On their journey, Ariadoa and Seiya met a healer princess named Tiana and a mage named Colt who both joined their quest to slay the Demon Lord. Seiya and his party soon became known for facing off against foes far more powerful then them and prevailing through sheer luck. At an unspecified point, Seiya began a relationship with Princess Tiana which led to the healer falling pregnant.
After a long and arduous quest, Seiya and his party finally faced off against the Demon Lord without any prior preparations. Although they managed to kill the Demon Lord, they were caught off guard by his special ability which allowed him to resurrect himself, a fact Seiya would've known if he had researched beforehand. The resurrected Demon Lord devoured Colt, Ariadoa, and Tiana with the unborn child, before finally killing Seiya. In the wake of Seiya's death, the Demon Lord took control of Ixphoria and turned it into his own personal hellscape. Seiya, on the other hand, was sent back to Japan with none of his memories of Ixphoria intact.
Sometime later, Seiya was summoned by the Goddess Ristarte to save the S-Class world of Gaeabrande from its Demon Lord. Although he possessed no memories of Ixphoria, Seiya had instinctively learned from his prior mistakes. This time he decided to commit himself to extreme caution despite his incredible natural abilities and swift growth speed, in the hopes that he could succeed where he had failed before.
In the anime adaption of Cautious Hero and Isekai Quartet, Seiya is voiced by Yūichirō Umehara in the Japanese version and by Anthony Bowling in the English version. Umehara also voices Goblin Slayer in the show of the same name, Goro in Darling in the FranXX, Kureno Sohma from Fruits Basket and Siegfried Kircheis in the Legend of the Galactic Heroes franchise. Bowling also voices Aoi Torasaki in Absolute Duo.
Appearance[]
Despite his mature appearance, Seiya is only seventeen years old biologically speaking. Ryuuguuin is very tall for a Japanese man, standing at an impressive 6'0". His black hair is spiky yet well-kept, and is turned down at a right angle. His eyes are black, matching the color of his hair. He has been described as having an emo aesthetic, due to his hair and his cold attitude.
Seiya is considered attractive by almost everyone hes encountered, including allies and enemies. Due to his intensive workout regime, Ryuuguuin has an incredibly well-toned body that makes him even more physically desirable. Many women have expressed an attraction to him due to his looks alone (e.g. Ristarte, Ariadoa, Adenela and Valkyrie).
Seiya's basic outfit consists of a white t-shirt, a black jacket with a purple interior, black trousers and black shoes. He also wears several pieces of steel armor over his clothes, including a chestplate, pauldrons, and joint protection. He usually has a set of large bracelets stashed inside his jacket with gems in there center. These bracelets were made by Seiya by synthesizing Ristarte's hair, and give him various stat boosts and elemental abilities.
Personality[]
Seiya Ryuuguuin's key personality trait is his borderline pathological caution. He refuses to fight any opponent he feels he isn't 100% prepared to face. Despite this, he went into battle against Wohlks Roseguard without being sure of his victory. In order to ensure the safety of his loved ones, Seiya threw caution into the wind when he went to confront the Demon Lord of Gaeabrande alone. Seiya has proven that his excessive preparedness is necessary several times, as his ability to predict and create a contingency for every possible scenario has saved the day multiple times.
Seiya is a man of few words, when he does speak he does so rather bluntly. When speaking, Seiya is partial to using slang language, particularly language pertaining to hipsters. He does not hesitate to express his dissatisfaction with the actions and opinions of his allies. Ryuuguuin seems rather inept at socializing and picking up on the romantic feelings others harbor for him. Despite this, Seiya was able to use Adenela's feelings for him to manipulate her into fighting on his behalf. When Adenela confessed her feelings to him, Seiya responded with a concise and formulated rejection which gave off the impression that such an occurrence was commonplace for him.
Trivia[]
