“ | I might look like it, but I am in fact one of this city's espers. I am the first-ranked Level 5. The previous one, that is. | „ |
~ Senior/Absolute Leaf introducing themselves to Mitori Kouzaku. |
Senior, better known as Absolute Leaf, is a major character in the manga A Certain Scientific Mental Out, a spin-off of the A Certain Magical Index franchise.
They are the mysterious past 1st-ranked Level 5 esper whose consciousness was torn apart and inhabits two cubes called "Relics". The relic in the hands of Mitori Kouzaku houses Senior's benevolent side who seeks to stop its counterpart and their schemes.
Personality[]
Senior's original personality isn't known as their mind was split in two after the destruction of their original body. As such, there are two different wills inhabiting the two Relics. However, both incarnations have an intellectual demeanor and seemingly have a tendency to include English words in their speech randomly.
In stark contrast to Kokuchou's Relic, the Relic belonging to Mitori Kouzaku is rather humble and polite. While not much is known about their exact personality, Absolute Leaf seems to be quite cooperative and well-meaning, though it can display a somewhat snarky attitude. It desires to stop its counterpart's plots, describing itself as the same as the other and it itself as its own greatest enemy, as well as accepting the 'humiliation' of returning to a world it considered hellish to do so.
Unlike their counterpart, Absolute Leaf doesn't seek to restore their original body and is perfectly content with returning to their pre-revival state. In response to their counterpart's arrogance, Absolute Leaf states that people evolved by copying and there was nothing to say a successor was inferior to the original.
Biography[]
Much of Senior's background isn't known. What is known is that they were a Gemstone esper who came from outside of Academy City and rose to #1, with research on them greatly contributing to esper development and forming the foundation for the current generation. Moreover, they were apparently active during a time with dial-up Internet access, CRT monitors with slow moving images and 8-bit computing, meaning that they have been around since the beginning of Academy City's foundation.
At some point in time, the former #1 Level 5 was presumably killed by Aleister Crowley and Noukan Kihara for unknown reasons. However, their mind managed to survive (though torn in half and missing memories) and wandered the skies of Academy City in a disembodied state, devouring the supernatural as they did so. After the events of the Daihasei Festival, Senior managed to revive themselves and return to the physical world through the creation of Shadow Metal, fashioning their current vessel with their ability.
