~ Sensei to seia.
Sensei (先生 in Japanese) is the character of the player in the South-Korean RPG game Blue Archive and the main protagonist of the 2024 Anime Adaptation of the same name]. Like his name suggests in Japanese, he is a Teacher and the Advisor of SCHALE, a club formed by the President of the General Student Council, a club that oversees all of Kivotos Kivotos, the "Academy City" where the game takes place in. Prior to the president's disappearance, SCHALE was essentially formed as a sort of stand-in for the General Student Council president although its true intentions remain unknown, providing Sensei with extrajudicial authority and access to students from all academies without any sort of restriction, which is then utilized to prevent or dissolve any conflicts inside and surrounding said academies, their students, and administrators.
He is voiced in the anime by Shogo Sakata in Japanese.
As a teacher, his role is to teach the students living in the Academy City, providing them with wisdom, guidance, and protection. As long as they are considered students by Sensei, whether they are a human-like robot, a high-ranking official, or a terrorist, they will be under Sensei's jurisdiction until the day they grow into adults, as long as they're willing to be under their wing. Making use of their great intelligence, they provide nuggets of wisdom, educate serious topics that students would generally be clueless of, and command these students using incredible military strategies and tactics while still having wacky shenanigans along the way. They are also capable of giving moral lessons that fit with the occasion.
Other than extrajudicial authority, Sensei possesses a mysterious tablet named the Shittim Chest, handed over by the General Student Council's Acting President, Rin Nanagami, which contains w:c:bluearchive:Arona Arona, the main OS of the Shittim Chest. The Shittim Chest's functions are unknown to many others despite having seen the object for themselves, including Rin who was closest to the now vanished president. However, despite being locked behind a password, Sensei was able to input the password correctly: "We long for the seven wailings. We bear the koan of Jericho." Arona, on the other hand, is an OS who is capable of providing Sensei protection from surrounding attacks using her Reality-Warping abilities.
Sensei also owns a special item dubbed as the "Adult Card" (大人のカード in Japanese), a card that allows for immense power for the price of life and time. Despite its full capacity remaining unknown, it allows Sensei to fight beyond the superhuman levels some students have, which in-game is depicted by allowing the player to select their own squad in a story stage that otherwise would have given a fixed squad. However, abuse of the card will result in corruption although it's still unclear how it works.
It is worth nothing that, as stated by Blue Archive's scenario writer Isakusan, all appearances of Sensei is regarded as non-canon, regardless of however they are depicted in any official media.
Game[]
Sensei's appearance is player-dependent; the player gets to chose the sex and appearance the way they want, though the game will refer to Sensei as "they/them" for the ambiguity. However, a "canon" appearance of Sensei can be seen in the form of a doodle made by Arona, which depicts them as a childishly drawn smiling character that, at the very least, is not bald.
Anime[]
In the anime, Sensei appears as a handsome friendly young man with messy black hair parted from the left. Sensei sports a grey formal office uniform with a black necktie and his card holder of SCHALE.
Personality[]
In the game, Sensei's demeanor oscillates between naive, whimsy and reliable, alternating between obliviousness and keen discernment, and toggling between cunning strategy and gullible naivety. Remarkably adaptable, Sensei alters their behavior to suit the needs and preferences of their students. Their pleasant and charming nature makes Sensei a captivating figure, drawing students to harbor feelings towards them like a magnet, including their allure that many of the students find themselves drawn to Sensei on a personal level. Sensei's commitment to their students' well-being remains unwavering, despite the fluctuations in their demeanor. Their eccentricity is evident in their unconventional interests, such as gacha games and robots, which adds to their unique character. Yet, within their quirks lie valuable lessons and words of encouragement for their students. The player's dialogue choices further contribute to the variability of Sensei's personality, making their interactions even more dynamic. Amidst these changes, two constants persist: Sensei's dedication to protecting their students and their deep-seated fondness for combat tactics.
Trivia[]
Contrary to the general belief that a "Teacher" is someone who teaches, a "Teacher" in Blue Archive refers to a "complete being who has completed their growth", as mentioned in an interview with Isakusan. Although what this fully entails remains unknown, Sensei still remains as the guiding teacher that they are, but it separates them from the students who would be deemed as "incomplete" based on this statement.
Despite Kivotos being an "Academy City" with countless academies, a traditional teacher like Sensei is extremely rare due to lessons being taught through Blu-Ray Discs, occasional guest lecturers, and by the students' upperclassmen.
Despite Sensei being depicted as gender neutral, few occasions in-game lean towards the idea that Sensei is canonically male.
