Sergey Nechayev, also known by his code name P-3, is the main protagonist of the 2023 first person shooter video Atomic Heart. He is an officer of the special forces, intelligence on special assignments and a specialist in resolving difficult situations by any means, including by force. He is subordinate to Professor Dmitry Sechenov, the husband of Ekaterina Nechaeva and the son-in-law of Zinaida Muravyeva.
He was voiced by Alexander Lomov.
Atomic Heart[]
At the beginning of the game, P-3 was invited to Enterprise 3826 to assist in the implementation of the Collective 2.0 neural network. Upon arrival at the facility, Nechaev discovers that the Company's robots have become hostile and destroyed most of the human staff. Sechenov explains that the lead engineer of the "Collective 2.0", Viktor Petrov, sabotaged the activities of the node of the "Collective 1.0", which manages Enterprise 3826, therefore P-3 was instructed to find and detain Petrov. Together with his partner, Charles, who is a polymer artificial intelligence embedded in the polymer glove of the major, P-3 must resist robots while simultaneously coping with his own, constantly deteriorating, mental state.
P-3 tracks Petrov down in one of the laboratories and finds out that he is working with neurosurgeon Dr. Larisa Filatova. Petrov manages to escape and is presumably killed by robots. P-3 finds only his headless corpse. Meanwhile, the Politburo of the Central Committee of the CPSU begins to suspect that something is wrong at Enterprise 3826, and Sechenov hides the true scale of the disaster. Molotov, one of the members of the Politburo, decides to personally inspect the Enterprise and threatens to close the Atomic Heart project. Charles tells P-3 that Sechenov and the Politburo are secretly fighting for power over the "Collective", and the Politburo, of course, will use this incident as an excuse to get rid of Sechenov. Sechenov instructs P-3 to intercept Molotov, but as soon as Major Nechaev reaches the target, he suddenly loses consciousness and falls into Limbo, and when he wakes up, he finds that Molotov and the entire team accompanying him have been killed. At the same time, Sechenov claims that this is the work of robots.
Then Stockhausen informs Sechenov that someone is trying to send a signal to the West, which leads the latter to believe that Petrov is still alive, the main character declares that Petrov died because he himself saw his body, to which Sechenov already says "Only the body? And Petrov is primarily a head." He orders P-3 to continue the search for Victor, since most likely neurosurgeon Filatov performed an operation for Petrov to transplant his head. While P-3 pursues Petrov, Petrov, who has revealed himself, begins to tell him that Sechenov plans to kill millions of people and enslave the world by activating a new neural network, which is why he is trying to sabotage the project. When the P-3 catches up with him, Petrov informs him that the robots had a combat mode from the very beginning, which he only activated. Viktor asks Nechaev to give Filatova a pair of gold rings and commits suicide, after which Sechenov asks P-3 to save Petrov's head. In response to Sechenov's question about Petrov's gold rings, Nechaev tells him that he has not seen them. P-3 delivers Petrov's head to the laboratory, which houses an installation capable of extracting Victor's memories, but Filatov destroys the device with a grenade. And as a result of the explosion, P-3 loses consciousness.
When P-3 regains consciousness, Filatova contacts him and asks to meet her at the Neptune complex, at the Academy of Consequences. There she shows him the experimental people recruited to study the "Collective" and tells him that this neural network is actually a tool that allows you to deprive people of free will and control their consciousness. Shocked by this information, P-3 decides to cooperate with Filatova in order to further find out the whole truth from Sechenov. Having penetrated deeper into the laboratory with Filatova, P-3 discovers that the HRAZ is not actually artificial intelligence, but the mind of Chariton Zakharov, Sechenov's friend and his colleague, who studied polymers, which turned into a polymer during his own experiments. Using Zakharov's official clearance, P-Z and Filatova penetrate the archives of Neptune to find out more about Nechaev's past. There, P-3 learns that Sechenov, wanting to correct Nechaev's serious traumatic brain injury, installed a polymer implant in his brain, who controlled his mind when it was necessary, and erased the memories of P-3's deceased wife, Ekaterina. Angry, Nechaev decides to enter into a confrontation with Sechenov.
Suddenly, P-3 loses consciousness again and falls into Limbo, and wakes up next to baba Zina, who turns out to be his mother-in-law. She informs Nechaev that he killed Filatov when he was unconscious, which enrages P-3. At this point, Nechaev can either retreat and do nothing, or continue the fight with Sechenov. At the same time, at the time of selection, the player, as well as the P-3, is under pressure according to the principle of majority choice.
If P-3 decides to enter the fray, he learns that the Atomic Heart project, developed personally by Sechenov and approved by the top party leadership, involves the worldwide distribution of combat robots disguised as peaceful ones, with the further seizure of strategic and military facilities and the decommissioning of nuclear power plants, in order to suppress the United States of America, change the political regime, the establishment of communism and the transfer of power to the supreme leadership of the USSR. P-3 meets with Sechenov and destroys his two robot bodyguards, the Twins, in which Ekaterina's brain data is loaded. Then he fatally wounds Sechenov, after which he warns him that Charles has been manipulating him all this time. Charles admits that it was he who put the P-3 into combat mode using the Voskhod polymer expander in his head and is responsible for the deaths of Molotov and Filatova, and his true plan was to eliminate Sechenov and take control of his project, thanks to which he will be able to destroy humanity and replace it with a new race of polymer life forms. Charles immobilizes P-3 with an electric current, climbs into the Array of information, assuming a polymer humanoid form, kills Sechenov and disappears. Meanwhile, P-3 finds himself back in Limbo, where he sees Catherine in the form of a Twin holding out her hand to him, after which the game ends.
If P-3 refuses to fight, he destroys Charles, escapes from Enterprise 3826, and leaves for the resort, allowing Sechenov to continue his plans to activate the "Collective 2.0". Charles, who now represents a small mass of living polymer, also manages to escape, after which the game ends.
Trivia[]
- His catchphrase — "F*** ing pies" — appeared because of an employee who, during a key module adjustment, commented on the situation in Bulgaria as "they almost burned down like f*** ing pies there." Upon hearing this, Nechaev subconsciously attacked him, but was subdued by shouts of "Fire!". After this incident, the ending of the phrase remained with Sergei as a trademark swear word, since Sechenov decided to leave this phrase in the lexicon of P-3 "to give details a new character".
- He is subconsciously angry at things related to his erased memories.
