~ Sewashi introducing himself to Nobita. |
Sewashi Nobi is the overarching protagonist of the Doraemon franchise. He is Nobita Nobi's great-great-grandson from the 22nd century, who sends Doraemon back in time to help Nobita to become a better person. As such, he is indirectly responsible for the events of the franchise. He was also Doraemon's original owner.
He was voiced by Seiko Minamoto in the 1973 anime, Shikoku Ta in the 1979 anime, Saki Satsuma in the 2005 anime, and Max Mittelman in the 2005 English dub.
Appearance[]
Sewashi strongly resembles his great-great-grandfather Nobita, except his big eyes are his actual eyes rather than glasses. However, in the 1973 anime, he does wear glasses like Nobita. He wears a jumpsuit whose colors vary between adaptations: Red and white in the 1973 anime, teal and white in the 1979 anime, and orange in the 2005 anime.
In the movie Stand by Me Doraemon, his hair is ginger.
Personality[]
In contrast to Nobita, Sewashi is quite athletic, serious and responsible. He is very concerned with his great-great-grandfather's life that he sends Doraemon to help him, and always takes matters seriously. On many occasions, he and Dorami also watch Doraemon and Nobita's activities and worry whenever they argue. In those times, he may propose Dorami to take Doraemon's place instead, but Doraemon always proves to be irreplaceable to Nobita. Sewashi also dislikes Doraemon and Nobita's mischievous and irresponsible ways, thinking that they would do no good for Nobita in the future. Despite this, Doraemon eventually succeeds in his mission, showing that Sewashi's faith is in the right person.
Despite his responsibility, Sewashi also doesn't perform well in school, likely the only trait he inherits from Nobita. He also fears dentists.
Trivia[]
- Sewashi is indirectly responsible for the events of the entire franchise, as not only he is the one who sends Doraemon to Nobita, it was also his robot mouse that bited off Doraemon's ears due to misinterpreting Sewashi's order, causing Doraemon to fear mice, as revealed in the 2112: The Birth of Doraemon short film.
- Many fans often speculated that Sewashi fabricates the photo album that he and Doraemon show Nobita in the first episode, since changing the past is generally considered risky, so it's likely that Sewashi only sends Doraemon back to complete the causal loop.
