Shūtarō Mendō is a supporting character of the 1978-1987 romantic comedy manga series Urusei Yatsura, as well as its 1981-1986 and 2022 anime television series adaptations of the same name.
He was voiced by Akira Kamiya in the 1981 original series in Japanese and Mamoru Miyano in the 2022 reboot in Japanese and Brian Hudson for Movie 1, Vinnie Penna for Movie 2 (who also voiced Ataru Moroboshi), Robert Rogan for 3-6, and Jack Stansbury in the 2022 reboot in English. As a child, he is voiced by Yō Taichi in the 2022 reboot in Japanese and Brittney Karbowski in English.
Appearance[]
He is handsome, charming and intelligent, on occasions Mendō succumbs to lechery and resembles Ataru, just more respectful and sophisticated in his approach. He has a black hair.
Shūtarō often carries a katana with him, which at any moment could be flying at Ataru's face.
Personality[]
He have two cases of narcissistic and claustrophobic and afraid of the dark. But due to his vanity, his phobias incredibly disappear when a girl can see him.[ch. 30] Ataru often plays on Mendo's fears by putting a large bell over him, forming a dark enclosed area where a girl can not see him. However, this has resulted in him breaking these bells out of sheer terror
He and Ataru are much more alike than either would like to admit.
Biography[]
He was born as a descendant of a samurai family. He is the heir to the Mendō conglomerate with staggering wealth and its own private army.
Upon his transfer to Tomobiki High, he and Ataru immediately become enemies. Then he fell for Lum and has feelings for Lum, tolerating Ataru's presence in order to be close to her.
