Shadow the Hedgehog is a major character in the anime series Sonic X.
He is an anthropomorphic hedgehog and the arch-rival of Sonic the Hedgehog. Shadow was created by Gerald Robotnik, and is the end result of Project Shadow. However, the project was closed, and Shadow was captured by G.U.N. and put into stasis on Prison Island after his friend Maria Robotnik was killed.
He was voiced by Jason Griffith, who also voiced Sonic the Hedgehog in the English version and Kōji Yusa in the Japanese version.

Early Life[]
Fifty years ago, a top-secret project called "Project Shadow" began on the space colony. This experiment was led by Professor Gerald Robotnik, who had been approved by the government and called it "the ultimate creature" that he wanted to use for the benefit of the world. After creating the prototype, Gerald was able to successfully create the finalized creature - Shadow the Hedgehog.
