Shakaar Edon was a Bajoran male introduced in the Star Trek: Deep Space Nine episode Shakaar.

Growing up in Dahkur Province, Shakaar fought against the Cardassians after they occupied Bajor, eventually coming to lead the Shakaar resistance cell. During his time leading his group, a young girl named Kira Nerys began hanging around and eventually Shakaar allowed her to join the group and participate in attacking the Cardassians. Among his most notable actions was liberating the Gallitep labor camp, a particularly brutal Cardassian labor camp. Shakaar and his people He fought against the Cardassians for over 20 years until the Cardassians withdrew from Bajor, ending the occupation.

While Kira joined the Bajoran Militia, Shakaar and cell members Furel and Lupaza decided to return to Dahkur Province and take up farming. After a few years he and his fellow former resistance members finally received soil reclamation units and were promised that they would be able to use them for a year. When Kai Winn was appointed First Minister after the death of former First Minister Kalem Apren. One of her first actions was to demand the return of the reclamation units, however Shakaar refused to do so. When Winn lied and sent officers to arrest Shakaar after agreeing to meet with him, Shakaar and Kira gathered as many former resistance members as possible and took off for the hills. They are pursued by Lenaris Holem. After ambushing Lenaris in a valley Shakaar and Kira work out a cease fire with Lenaris.

Returning to Ashalla, Shakaar informs Winn that he is going to run for First Minister, a move that is supported by the military and a large segment of the population. Winn drops out of the race when she is told that if she stays in the race for First Minister the people will learn she risked civil war over a couple pieces of farm equipment and throws her support behind Shakaar.

First Splinter Timeline[]

Following the Dominion war Shakaar continued to pursue Federation membership for Bajor. During a goodwill tour of the Federation Shakaar encountered a Parasite queen on Ventax II which took control of him. Shakaar was forced to order Second Minister Asarem Wadeen to stonewall the negotiations to join the Federation. When the joined Trill Hiziki Gard discovered Shakaar was under parasite control, he killed Shakaar. By the time of Shakaar's death, he had been infested for so long that his original personality had been completely destroyed. However the queen had left his body earlier and left Shakaar under the control of a worker parasite.
