Shakes the Clown is the lead protagonist of the 1992 comedy movie of the same name. He is an alcoholic clown who was framed for a murder caused by his archenemy Binky The Clown.

He is portrayed by writer and director Bobcat Goldthwait.

Personality[]

Shakes is an alcoholic clown who is always late for children's birthday parties. Shakes is always seemed to have struggled a lot with his job because of his alcohol addiction. He is shown to have very strong hatred towards Binky despite not being a good clown who always tells unfunny jokes. Shakes' two friends Dink the Clown and Stenchy the Clown who are also clowns. They would try to help him by making sure that he wouldn't drink before Shakes jeopardized his job by getting drunk at child birthday party. Shakes had tough relationship with his girlfriend Judy despite him always drinking. He is often shown to have been very wrathful, after he got fired he threatened to kill Mr. Cheese out of anger over being fired. His drinking problem is highly due to the death of his parents and was left orphaned before being raised by his boss Owen Cheese.

Biography[]

The film begins with Shakes waking up drunk in woman's apartment in her bathroom. After walking out the apartment realizes that he is late for a child's birthday party. He heads over to a nearby gas station and gets prepared for the birthday party. After leaving the birthday party, he meets his friends at Twisted Balloon bar owned by Owen Cheese. Dink tells Shakes that Binky is the new host of the show after they found out that fellow clown Peppy was fired before Shakes gets furiated by the news despite him wanting to be the new host of his own show.

Mr. Owen Cheese warns Shakes that if he drinks again at a child's birthday party, he will get fired. Shake's friends go with him on his route to make sure he doesn't drink. While at the party, Shakes secretly drinks a bottle of alcohol causing him to go on a rampage before Cheese fires Shakes after ruining another party causing him to go into a fit of rage threatening to kill before passing out in the back room. While still passed out, Cheese gets murdered by Binky with one of Shakes' juggling pins after he catches them doing cocaine before making a fake 911 phone call pretending to be Cheese framing Shakes for the murder.

The police arrive before Shakes wakes up and runs out and heads back to his place before covering as a mime. He and his friends go on mission to track down the rodeo clowns who are Binky's friends. When they caught up to them they managed to find Binky and found Judy at a studio tied to a board as he attempts to kill her live on the air. Shakes tackles Binky and get into a brawl while Dink and Stenchy untie Judy before she knocks Binky unconscious before Binky gets arrested. Judy gets back together with Shakes and promised to never drink again. Afterwards Shakes seeked group therapy to help for his drinking problem and becomes the new host of the show.
