Shaquille Barrington Rusty Lee Fraser or simply Fraser is one of the main characters in the BBC Three sitcom Bad Education and it's 2015 film adaptation.
He is played by Mathew Horne, who is best known for portraying Gavin Shipman in Gavin & Stacey.
Bad Education[]
In Series 1-3, Fraser was the Headmaster at Abbey Grove School in Hertfordshire where Alfie Wickers (who Fraser considers to be his best friend) and Rosie Gulliver worked. He also taught Geography at the school, though he was not good with the subject as in the second episode of Series 1 "Sex Education", he believed that Hoogeveen was a town in France, only to be informed by Alfie that it is actually a town in Holland.
Despite being Headmaster, Fraser was not very good at the job and constantly tried to act cool in front of the teachers and students and he was constantly undermined by his two previous Deputy Heads, Isobel Pickwell and Celia Green but gets on better with the third one, Martin Wickers who is Alfie's father.
In the first episode of Series 1, Fraser had romantic feelings for Rosie, but these feelings are not shown again after this episode with Fraser viewing her as just a colleague.
In the Series 1 episode, "Politics", Fraser was sent a obscene video by Alfie to his laptop (after being shown it by his student Mitchell) involving a man manipulating his privates to the Peter Gabriel song "Sledgehammer" (as he knew Fraser was a fan of Peter Gabriel). Fraser enjoyed the video, only to realise too late that his laptop was linked to the projector screen in his mock exam class, resulting in the students in the room seeing the video too, to their amusement and Fraser's horror. This resulted in Fraser being temporarily suspended from his job. However, Fraser later regained his job after Alfie blackmailed Pickwell (who wished to replace Fraser as headteacher) into telling the school governors nice things about Fraser after it was discovered by another student Jing that Pickwell had been defrauding the school in her expenses.
In the first episode of Series 3 during a teachers strike at Abby Grove, Alfie resigned to end the strike and so the pupils could return to school. Not wanting to lose Alfie, Fraser sold his flat so Alfie could keep his job.
In the 2022 special, it is shown that Fraser is still working at Abbey Grove, but is now working in the school's canteen, with his position as headteacher taken by a woman named Bernadette Hoburn.
The Big Night In=[]
Fraser made an appearance in a Bad Education sketch as part of the BBC telethon The Big Night In, which supported those affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
In the sketch, Fraser spoke with Alfie via Zoom and assumed that Alfie was contacting him to plat Fortnite with him, only for Alfie to tell him that he was contacting him to take part in a homeschooling tutorial, which he sent Fraser an email about. Fraser reveals to Alfie that he did not get the email and has been gaming due to being on gardening leave.
Trivia[]
- In the second episode of Series 4 "Whodunnit", Fraser mentions having a cousin who works at London Zoo.
