Shaula, also known as the Crimson Scorpion, is a supporting character in the 2014 Japanese dark fantasy light novel series Re:Zero − Starting Life in Another World.

The Crimson Scorpion was a mabeast created over four hundred years ago by the Witch of Gluttony Daphne. Unlike other mabeasts, Shaula had intelligence and could shape-shift into a human. Eventually, she became the apprentice of the Sage Flugel, whom she dearly loved. Alongside her master, the first Master Swordsman Reid Astrea, and the Holy Dragon Volcanica, Shaula battled and defeated the infamous Witch of Envy. The Jealous Witch, who had destroyed half of the world with her terrible power, could not be killed and was therefore sealed by the heroes.

After the defeat of the Witch, Shaula was commanded by Flugel to guard the Pleiades Watchtower, his base-of-operations that was filled with many secret. The Watchtower was surrounded by mabeast-infested dunes and overlooked the Great Waterfall at the edge of the world and the shrine where the Witch of Envy was contained. Shaula's job was to kill anyone who approached the Watchtower or the shrine, as the Jealous Witch could never be allowed to escape. Shaula loyally protected the Watchtower for around four hundred years. Although she waited dutifully and alone, Flugel never returned to relieve Shaula of her job.

Appearance

In her human form, Shaula had long dark-brown hair that she tied into a ponytail. Her dark green eyes had three red dots inside their pupils that were arranged in a triangle. Her alluring figure was only covered by a black string bikini top, a pair of long black high-heel ankle boots with orange collars and a single orange star positioned at the top part of the shaft on each boot, form-fitting black short shorts accompanied by an orange belt, and a long black ragged cloak with an orange interior and a hood. Interestingly, Shaula's clothing matched the color of Subaru Natsuki's favorite tracksuit.
