Sheldon Shellendorf, better known as just Sheldon, is a supporting character in the Splatoon series, being a major protagonist in the story mode of Splatoon 2. He is the lively, overenthusiastic owner of Ammo Knights who sells different weapons in each game to the player, as well as creating modified weapons for Agent 4 in Splatoon 2's story mode.
Appearance[]
Sheldon is an anthropomorphic horseshoe crab, with his shell being on his head, mimicking a soldier helmet. He has a fairly large head, peach skin, buck teeth and wears a pair of binocular-esque goggles. He wears a military outfit with a uniform, pants and leather shoes, as well as a vest with multiple badges on it. He also wears a small apron.
Personality[]
Energetic and peppy, Sheldon is a military fanatic obsessed with weapons, coming from a respected family of weapon makers and initially wanting to become a soldier, only being rejected due to his poor eyesight, which he too developed from staying up overnight tinkering on his latest designs. Renowned for his enthusiasm on weaponmaking, Sheldon is famous for his habit of chattering away on the details of his different wares, a habit which seems to extend to his other job as Director of the Turf Wars Association, so much so they have to put a time limit for his speeches.
Biography[]
Splatoon[]
Sheldon doesn't appear in the story mode at all, only acting as a merchant in the normal PvP game modes as a weapons dealer.
Splatoon 2[]
Sheldon appears as a supporting protagonist in the story mode of Splatoon 2, creating Hero versions of different weapons for Agent 4 to test out, as well as being able to upgrade them. During the final fight between Agent 4 and DJ Octavio, Sheldon drives in on a flying Splatfest truck, allowing Marie to shoot the Hypno-Shades off Callie and return her to her senses. He also gives Agent 4 the Rainmaker they use to eventually defeat Octavio once again. Sheldon also supplies them with replicas of the Hero weapons for regular battles, regrettably unable to make more due to factory limitations.
Splatoon 3[]
Sheldon once again returns to his role of being a regular weapons dealer, having moved his main base of operations to Splatsville and never appearing in the story mode. However, once Neo Agent 3 explores all of Alterna, he supplies the Squid Sisters with the Shel-drone, allowing Agent 3 to send it out in search of various treasures to collect. He also apparently took the twins Shelly and Donny under his wing as his apprentices, with the two running his outlets in Inkopolis Square and Plaza.
As revealed in Side Order, a fragment of Sheldon’s soul was stolen by Order and formed into a palette. Fortunately, after defeating the rogue AI Agent 8 returns this fragment to Sheldon on one of their runs.
Trivia[]
- Sheldon was neutral for the Chaos VS. Order Splatfest, caring little for the fate of Inkopolis as long as he can continue making and selling weapons.
- Despite her normally chaotic nature, Shiver is the only person who's been known to stand Sheldon's non-stop rambling, even being shown to purposefully listen to him at times.
