Shelley Marsh (born November 24) is a supporting character in the long-running animated television series South Park. She is the thirteen year-old daughter of Randy and Sharon Marsh and the older sister (and archenemy) of Stan Marsh. Despite being generally depicted as an abusive bully towards her brother, Shelley has proven she can be a kind person.
Heroic Acts[]
- In "An Elephant Makes Love to a Pig" (season 1, episode 5), Shelley took the blame for Stan and protected him from getting sent away, despite all the abuse she put him through earlier in the episode.
- In "Pre-School" (season 8, episode 10), she vows to protect Stan and his friends from the bully Trent Boyett because no one is allowed to beat Stan up except her.
- In "Broadway Bro Down" (season 15, episode 11), Shelley stands up for Larry Feegan against the obese vegan's parents and she tells them to let Larry live his life and not constrict him.
- In "Tegridy Farms Halloween Special" (season 23, episode 5), Shelley finally gets fed up with her father Randy's weed farm and destroys all of his recipes.
Personality[]
Shelley Marsh is filled with a lot of anger and hatred. Her favorite way to vent this anger and hate is to beat up her younger brother, Stan and his friends, Kyle, Cartman and Kenny. The anger comes from the fact she is not very good-looking due to the headgear she has to wear, meaning that no boys like her at school. This issue is explored in the episode "Cat Orgy", where she confesses this to Cartman. Besides being insecure about her looks, she is also bitter and jealous over the fact that her family often pays more attention to her brother than her.
In addition to revealing her vulnerable side during "Cat Orgy", Shelley has also been found to show compassion for her little brother Stan (usually after he plays the Brother-Sister-Family Card) when all other choices have been exhausted. A perfect example of this is the episode "Pre-School" where Stan and the others are threatened to be killed by Trent Boyett, Shelley vows to protect her little brother because killing him is her job, In the same episode, she showed her more mature side when she told the main 4 that it was their fault for Trent being hardened and told them to confess.
She insists however that Stan come clean about the lies that made Trent want to kill him in the first place, showing that Shelley also cares about the way Stan is growing up and tries to teach him how to be a responsible person.

Trivia[]
- Shelley was named after Trey Parker's older sister who treated him the same way Shelley in South Park treats Stan, albeit not as extreme as the character.
- It's implied that Shelley was not always an angry person, and that she only gained a temper after she got her braces on. Stan himself furthers this theory by saying that she used to be somewhat nicer to him as well before she had the braces.
- Though usually depicted as an antagonist, Shelley has played the role of a protagonist. In the season 3 episode, "Cat Orgy", after her boyfriend Skyler breaks up with her because she refused to have sex with him, Cartman offers to team up with her to get revenge on Skyler and she joins him in doing so. In the season 15 episode, "Broadway Bro Down", she takes pity on Larry Feegan and they begin hanging out and go see the musical Wicked together.
