While Shadow spared her from the knowledge of her adopted father's murder of her mother and subsequent deception about actually caring about her, by keeping the innocent picture of him, she was forced to suffer a second parental death. The accumulated trauma broke her kind and gentle spirit, leaving her a joyless husk; despite not becoming evil per se, she retreated into isolation and is plotting vengeance on Shadow due to believing he killed her adopted father for no reason. Thus, her pre-existing social exclusion was made even worse, and she was left in a worse situation overall.
