Shez, also known as the Mysterious Mercenary, is a major character within the Fódlan Saga of Nintendo's Fire Emblem franchise. They are the main protagonist of the 2022 tactical hack-&-slash video game Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes.

They are a mercenary who were a member of Captain Berling's Mercenaries, before their captain and comrades were wiped out by Byleth Eisner and Jeralt's Mercenaries. While on their way to swear revenge on Byleth, Shez rescues and meets the three house leaders, Edelgard von Hresvelg, Dimitri Alexandre Blaiddyd, and Claude von Riegan, and they are appointed as a student in the Officers Academy. They are also assisted by a mysterious entity known as Arval.

Male Shez is voiced by Tasuku Hatanaka in the Japanese version and Damien Haas in the English version. Female Shez is voiced by Miyu Tomita in the Japanese version and Dawn M. Bennett in the English version.

Personality[]

In compariosn to Byleth, who is composed and focused, Shez is a brash and headstrong individual. They are straightforward when expressing their feelings and opinions to others, and while they will take any work they can get as a mercenary, they make a point to see a job through to the end and never consider abandoning it for a better offer, understanding the importance of integrity in order to by hired by potential clients.

After being given their power by Arval, Shez becomes rather reckless in their attempts to get stronger, performing such absurd acts as jumping off a cliff three times in order to "get tougher", much to Arval's chargin.

Shez has a terrible sense of direction and dislikes reading maps, which resulted in them getting lost on their way to Remire village and stumbling upon Edelgard, Dimitri and Claude.

Backstory[]

Shez was born in a village in Leicester, within Ordelia territory. Their biological parents died, causing Shez to be adopted by a woman. Shez seemed to love their adoptive mother, as seen in their likes in their profile. Upon the death of their adoptive mother, Shez was cast out from thier village, eventually becoming a mercenary. Later, they joined Captain Berling and her mercenaries. One day, they attacked Jeralt's mercenaries for a job. Shez fought against Byleth the Ashen Demon but was easily defeated and would've been killed if it weren't for Arval's intervention.
