~ Lang's alternate to "Objection!."

Shi Long Lang is a major protagonist in the Ace Attorney Investigations duology. He is an aggressive Interpol agent who is resentful towards prosecutors due to the actions of Blaise Debeste and Patricia Roland in the SS-5 Incident which was the last case his father worked on.

He was voiced by Kenta Miyake in Japanese and Peter J. Fabiano in English.

History[]

Before The Game's Events[]

Shi Long Lang is a part of the Lang Clan who were an ancient and revered family in Zheng Fa descending from the member Lang Zi who helped shape the country into what it is today with his philosophies.

In 2007, Lang's father Dai Long Lang worked on a case named the SS-5 incident where he received a drawing from a kid who witnessed the incident occur which Lang would remember 12 years later during a case.

While Lang's father managed to figure out what happened in the SS-5 incident, he was stopped by Blaise Debeste tampering with the blood samples and the evidence in general, causing Dai to resign and the Lang clan losing its high reputation standing and its name was tarnished, causing Lang to develop a hatred for prosecutors seeing them all as bad as the one who ruined his family name and reputation.

Turnabout Reminiscence[]

Intent on restoring his family's lost reputation, he became on officer of the law and studied the law of as many countries as he could so he could understand his job more deeply.

On September 10 2012, Lang made an appearance in the court due to being called by Tyrell Badd to help find the Yatagarasu key which had seemingly disappeared. Upon leaving the room, he noticed Miles Edgeworth and Franziska Von Karma and spitefully walked off when they greeted him, due to their profession.

Over the seven years that followed, Lang became a top ranked Interpol agent with the highest successful arrest rate out of all the agents and lead a group of 101 people with 1 female agent as his secretary named Shih Na.

Eventually, a economical disaster begins in Zheng Fa which Lang decides to find the culprit of the disaster, finally having an opportunity to restore his family's name along with Franziska Von Karma and Akbey Hicks aiding him in his investigations.

The Kidnapped Turnabout[]

After suspecting the Amano Group of being involved with the Cohdopian Smuggling Ring, Lang decides to find Ernest Amano and investigate him so he can find out what his role is in the smuggling ring and damage the smuggling rings connections.

During the case, he runs into Miles Edgeworth and Kay Faraday who both escaped from captivity after Lang had told them to wait until the case has been solved then maybe he will come save them. Lang accuses Mike Meekins of being the murderer of Oliver Deacon after finding his body in the garage due to the fact that his gun was missing however Miles quickly disproved of this as the body had no blood surrounding it, proving the murder happened some where else. Furious that a prosecutor bested him, Lang tells Miles not to interfere with the case as he is the one with investigative authority.

Later on, Lang ran into Miles again at the stadium saying that the murder must have occurred at the stadium because of the 3 wheeled tire tracks in the dirt which the badger mobile had only 3 wheels and that the killer must have been on the floor instead of the stage. Once again, Miles disproved these theories as the badger mobile Meekins was driving had no dirt on the tires and the victim's bullet wounds were impossible to land from a downward shooting angle. After the argument, Lance Amano popped up seemingly escaping the kidnappers and Meekins gun is found shortly after, clearing him of suspicion.

Later in the day, Miles after investigating the kidnappers hideout, deduces that Lance must have been the 3rd kidnapper because of his 1 million dollar debt which was the ransom money for his kidnapping. Lang doesn't see why Lance would fake the kidnapping until after he is told about the debt but everyone is interrupted eventually by Earnest who brings seemingly decisive proof that Lance had not killed Deacon who's real name was revealed to be Colin Devorae but Miles kept pushing towards Lance doing it which forced Earnest to tamper with the evidence by purchasing the haunted house and refusing to give them access.

After a lengthy investigation using Kay's tool named "Little Thief", Lance is proven to be the murderer and Lang has a reason to arrest Earnest for tampering with evidence bringing down the entire Amano groups connections with the smuggling ring. Although corrupt prosecutor Jacques Portsman attempts to take investigative authority in order to save Ernest, Lang simply tells his agents to arrest them as he has investigative authority.

Turnabout Ablaze[]

Set only a day after the events of The Kidnapped Turnabout, word is spread that the great thief Yatagarasu was planning to infiltrate the former Cohdopian embassy in order to reveal its biggest secret. This prompts the embassy to call Interpol in order to increase security for the Yatagarasu's attack which Lang decides to assist by splitting his men into two groups due to the embassy now being split into two countries with his secretary Shih-Na heading the Bahbalese side and Lang himself taking the Allebahstian side although only 26 men were allowed on each side due to Allebahst's tight security.

Upon hearing about the Yatagarasu, Tyrell Badd also decided to join Lang's investigation as the former had knowledge of the thief's stealing pattern. As extra protection, Lang and Badd where told to be a part of the security detail for Quercus Alba's Speech during the goodwill event for Allebahst and Bahbahl to be Cohdopia once again. As expected, the Yatagarasu's shadow appeared and the audience was shocked. Shortly after these events, a thief named Ka-Shi-Nou was found dead in the Allebahstian side of the embassy being hit with a blunt object which lead to Larry Butz being accused of the murder due to the Steel Samurai sword being bent and having the victims blood on it. It turns out that the Bahbalese secretariat Manny Coachen had also been murdered during the fires in the Bahbalese office after being informed by Shih-Na that Kay Faraday was the main suspect however Miles Edgeworth disproved this shortly after leading to him investigating the Allebahstian side with Lang.

After Lang accuses Butz of being the murderer due to the steel samurai sword being bent, Miles proves that that the weapon could not have been the sword due to it being too hollow and that Lang and his men haven't been given permission to investigate the statue. Alba refused permission but Lang investigated it anyway which proved the statue to be the real murder weapon and that it had been smuggled from the Bahbalese side due to it having the Bahbalese icon on the statue. Afterwards, Lang meets Edgeworth in the Rose Garden after Edgeworth deduces that the Yatagarasu shadow was a fake using the two statues in the garden with lights to create an illusion which was a diversion for smuggling the statues across the embassies.

After investigating the Bahbalese office once again, Edgeworth points towards Shih-Na as being the real killer of Manny Coachen. Since Lang had not investigated the Bahbalese side himself, he had no choice but to let Shih-Na and Edgeworth engage in a battle of wits. While he wanted to believe his subordinates innocence, more and more evidence proves towards Shih-Na being the murderer and he becomes growingly suspicious. Edgeworth asks her to give her a piece of her jacket because the murderer had gotten Bahbalese ink on their clothes which she refuses but Lang tells her to do it because if she is innocent there is nothing to worry about. After the coat does have Bahbalese ink due to the green flames when it was lit on fire proving her involvement, Shih-Na reveals herself as one of the smuggling rings spies and takes Kay Faraday hostage in an attempt to escape. However, Tyrell Badd appears behind her and shoots at her but Lang decides to apprehend her himself while getting shot in the leg in the process telling everyone that she is still his subordinate and also his responsibility.

After being arrested, Shih-Na reveals that she was not the murderer of Ka-Shi-Nou or Manny Coachen which gives Lang an idea of who the real culprit is. After returning from the arrest, Lang notices that Alba was trying to stop the investigation due to it going on for a long time and citizens have been unable to attend the goodwill event in the embassy which leads to Lang figuring out who the real culprit is, accusing Franziska Von Karma of being the culprit in order to bait Alba into giving them access to the Allebahst embassy which leads to them figuring out Alba being the murderer of Ka-Shi-Nou and Manny Coachen. And figuring out the reason the Bahbalese statue was smuggled was due to it containing counterfeit plates which were the cause of the counterfeit bills in Zheng Fa as well as being the leader of the smuggling ring. Alba reveals his true self and tells them that because he has extraterritorial rights, he can refuse to be prosecuted in any country other then Allebahst and that Miles will not prosecute him for either murders.

After hearing about this, Lang tells Edgeworth to keep Alba busy while he left to contact the Allebahst imperial household and revealed Alba's accusations towards them, causing him to lose his Ambassador status and forcing him to continue the interrogation. Miles proved how Coachen's body was moved between the embassies and what the murder weapon was along with proving that Alba had a very good motive to kill Coachen as the latter was planning to betray him with Lang making sure that the possibilities were absolute in order to move the argument forward.

Eventually, the murder scene was revealed to be the dressing room inside the Theatrum Neutralis which is part of American soil and while Lang's men found no evidence of a murder at first, a single drop of blood was found on a box of samurai dogs which came from the dressing room. Alba finally gives up and is prosecuted two days later. Lang attends, not wanting to miss watching the man who caused his country grief get what he deserves and puts aside his grudge towards prosecutors to thank Edgeworth for revealing Alba's involvement and for making the arrest possible however it didn't go beyond mutual respect and Lang said he would still do things his own way.

The Imprisoned Turnabout[]

Wanting to complete his father's work, Lang decides to work towards taking down the two people who caused his family's downfall first starting with the prison warden. During a trip to the detention center, Lang runs into Edgeworth while he is taking a look at his 'prey'. Edgeworth and Kay notice that Lang does not have his men with him due to being seen as aiding and abetting a criminal by taking Shih-Na into custody himself however, Lang seemed to be fine with continuing his solo investigation and later Roland was arrested for the murder of Horace Knightley. and unknown to Lang, his subordinates kept an eye on him as they wanted to help him complete his father's work.

The Grand Turnabout[]

On April 6th 2019, Lang was at the grand tower after hearing someone scream which lead to him noticing the body of the president of Zheng Fa with him hastily accusing Penny Nichols almost immediately. Edgeworth manages to convince him that she was not the murderer which prompts him to leave and contact the police department in order to start a proper investigation.

Lang joined in on the investigation with Edgeworth asking to join too which Lang agreed to, eventually leading to the conclusion that Justine Courtney must have been the murderer as she entered the top of the grand tower with the president but only she came back down. Edgeworth proves that the president must have taken the secret hatch in the roof which leads to a secret 51st floor which was used as a black market for illegal evidence. Lang was initially furious that Edgeworth and Kay would think that a great man and a courageous leader that he remembered the president as would be involved in such a thing, but quickly regained his composure, apologized and asked for forgiveness, not knowing the presidents true personality as a pathetic man.

After a photojournalist named Lotta Hart told everyone that the president had not passed through the room, Lang suspected John Marsh of being involved after being informed that he was practicing his acting the night before. It turns out that Marsh had been kidnapped in order to force Justine Courtney into giving Roland a not guilty verdict. Fortunately, Marsh was found thanks to the Efforts of Miles, Kay and Dick Gumshoe. Lang enters the courtroom wanting to see the woman who caused his family's downfall finally get what she deserves but that there are still things he needs to question Justine and John about.

Back at the filming lot, Lang questioned them both on why was John at the filming lot last night by himself. It turns out that Marsh accidentally caused a giant Moozilla head to fall and then discovered the body afterwards which also led to finding out that Blaise had come to the filming lot to dig up something from 12 years ago. Once the questioning was over, Lang's subordinates later came to him and encouraged him to re-open the SS-5 investigation with Franziska Von Karma bringing the SS-5 files that were previously restricted due to Blaise's authority but was made obsolete following his arrest. During the little thief simulation that Kay had made, Lang remembered that the child that witnessed the incident had drawn a picture of what he saw showing the president at the orphanage where the incident took place and also had the president's will and the child's belonging's were all sent to him.

These pieces of evidence revealed that firstly, Dai Long Lang had discovered that the real president of Zheng Fa was assassinated during the SS-5 incident and replaced with the body double proving why the president Lang knew was so different from the one that Miles and Kay knew and that John Marsh was the president's secret son which he was going to reveal his existence.

Miles deduces that the mastermind behind almost all the incidents that have occurred in the past 2 weeks was Simon Keyes, leading to them accusing Simon of being the mastermind which he reveals his true personality after a short questioning. It is later revealed that Simon was the one who drew the picture and witnessed the SS-5 incident occur 12 years ago and that he masterminded the murder of Horace Knightley and the arrests of Patricia Roland and Blaise Debeste. Lang found the balloon that Simon uses to advertise the circus and Edgeworth deduces that Simon must have killed the body double by crushing him with the balloon two days earlier then took him to the circus's freezer warehouse in order to throw off the time of death with the pollen on the basket and also being on the body double's clothes being the decisive proof.

Upon being defeated, Shelly De Killer appeared to kill Simon for betraying his trust however, Sirhan Dogen appears and asks De Killer to spare Simon's life as Simon saved his life in the SS-5 incident. De Killer reluctantly agrees to this and walks off with Lang in pursuit however De Killer gets away but Lang decides to focus on continuing his father's legacy after restoring his family's status.
