Shiki Granbell is the main protagonist of the anime/manga series Edens Zero. He's is an adventurer from the planet Granbell and the Demon King of the warship Edens Zero, making him captain of its crew. He is also a member of the Guild Shooting Starlight and the adopted grandchild of the former Demon King, Ziggy.
He is voiced by Takuma Terashima and Yurie Kozakai as a child in Japanese and Sean Chiplock and Ryan Bartley as a child in English.
Biography[]
Shiki is the adoptive grandson of Demon King Ziggy, and the sole human inhabitant of Planet Granbell, where he was raised in an abandoned theme park run by robots. He gets swept up on a space-faring adventure with Rebecca and Happy to explore new worlds and make 100 new friends across the cosmos, but a lifetime without human contact has left his social skills somewhat lacking. To overcome this, he has made it his life's goal to find the legendary goddess Mother, using the Edens Zero—his birthright from his late grandfather—to do it.
The Ether Gear that Shiki inherited from Ziggy, Satan Gravity, lets him alter gravity for himself or any person or object he chooses. This affords him a wide range of skills such as making things lighter or heavier, running across walls, sliding down floors, "falling" up and sideways through the air, hurling compressed gravity bullets, and crashing into his enemies like a comet.
Appearance[]
Shiki is mostly at his teens or young adult size given his physical appearance, he is an average height with spiky black hair which partially covers his ears, slanted dark eyes, and thin eyebrows. He dons a small, white bandage on his left cheek as well as a red pouch around his waist.
Personally[]
Growing up with robots through most of his life, he is very awkward around other human due to not seeing them before. He has always wished to make lots of friends, to point of even asking strangers to be friends and invading other peoples personal space.
Shiki throughout the series has shown a great amount of loyalty, especially with the people he turly cares about, this even led him to refuse to leave Granbell for many years so he could take care of all the robots, though they do betray him. Even after being betrayed, he still referred to them as his friends and tearfully thanked them and told them that he will always remember them. Alongside with the betrayal, he attacked the robots in order to protect Rebecca, and Happy so they can escape. When Hermit's heart was shut down, he said that if he has to fix a broken heart, he is willing to do it.
Though he may be fearless, Shiki seems to have a big fear of bugs, which he was even terrified of them when he was younger as well.
Three years later, still having most of his old traits such as asking random people to be his friend, he has grown more mature and serious in combat.
