Shimotsuki Ryuma is a minor antagonist in the anime and manga series One Piece and the protagonist of Monsters: 103 Mercies Dragon Damnation. He is the ancestor of the Pirate Hunter Roronoa Zoro and Shimotsuki Ushimaru.
He is voiced by Yoshimasa Hosoya in Japanese and by Robbie Daymond in English on Netflix. He is voiced by Chō in Japanese and by Ian Sinclair in English as a zombie.
Appearance[]
Originally as a human, Ryuma had similar features to Zoro his direct ancestor. He occasionally carried a serious expression that can be seen to resemble Zoro. His eyes and hair were black and tied in a knot at the top of his head and wore a white samurai robe with loose green sleeves and a wave-patterned obi around his waist. For combat, he used a red katana with a golden guard and a grip of purple color. As his life progressed, he eventually gained a scar on his left eye, similar to Zoro.
Now as a zombie, his skin tone is turned into a khaki color and has no irises with his left eye larger than his right one. His other aspects as an undead is naturally his exposed teeth and having no nose. His face along with his exposed torso is covered with numberous stiches, scars, and bandages. His hair is now a white grey color. For attire, he now wears a long dark blue-colored scar around his neck and shoulders. He is in a white-colored samurai gi with the kanjis ryū (龍) on both side of his upper sleeves along with spiky and spots. He however keeps the same obi he wore as a human.
Personality[]
Ryuma is a skilled swordsman with a unique habit of interpreting any contact with his sword sheath as a direct challenge for a deadly duel. This stemmed from his belief that the sword was an extension of the swordsman. While he aimed for honor, this practice often led to unnecessary and violent confrontations, showcasing the unintended consequences of his rigid interpretation of swordsmanship etiquette. This quirk added complexity to Ryuma's character, highlighting both his commitment to honor and the challenges of his unwavering beliefs.
