Shin Hayata (ハヤタ・シン Hayata Shin) is the Deputy Captain of the Science Special Search Party or SSSP, and the Human Host of Ultraman. Hayata later left the SSSP after it was disbanded and replaced by the Ultra Guard. Sometime after, Ultraman and Hayata reunite and fused together again. Later, he was a mentor of Ultraman Mebius's human form, Mirai Hibino.
Biography[]
The Beginning[]
Shin Hayata was a member of the SSSP (Special Science Search Party), an organization specializing in defeating and investigating strange anomalies, which includes giant kaiju. One night, he was distracted by a red sphere floating in the air while flying his VTOL. Hayata accidentally crashed into the sphere and died, but the red sphere turned out to be the ship of a giant with red and silver skin. This being, Ultraman from Nebula M78, he thought Hayata‘s death was his own doing, so he gave his life and a device called Beta Capsule to him, and they merged into one person. Normally Hayata maintained his human form, but when danger came near, Hayata transforms into Ultraman by pressing the button on Beta Capsule to fight the evil, and protect Earth.
Farewell, Ultraman[]
Hayata's final role in the 1966 series was a showdown between his Ultra and Zetton. However, the SSSP base was first ransacked and almost destroyed by an agent of the Alien Zetton race, who used his shape shifting abilities to fool the members and destroy the SSSP's powerful super-computer. The alien then activated a command in which summoned their last UFO and unleashed the massively powerful Zetton. Hayata transformed and Ultraman appeared for his final fight, but was defeated by falling victim to a weapon, which damaged his warning light and left him incapable of gauging how much energy he had left. Finally, it was up to the SSSP, who dealt with the menace and defeated it using the Zero Gravity Bullet, which SSSP member Daisuke Arashi fired at Zetton. Eventually, Zoffy came and rescued Ultraman by separating him from Hayata, who immediately lost all the memories that followed his crash at Lake Ryugamori. Hayata later left the SSSP when it was replaced by the Ultra Garrison. He presumably later came into contact with Ultraman once again and merged with him.
