Shinichi Izumi (泉 新一 izumi shin'ichi) is the main protagonist of the Parasyte series, a normal high-school student who was infected by a parasite in his right hand. The parasite later named Migi is not hostile towards Shinichi but will do anything it takes to survive and not let Shinichi endanger him. This leads to try and distance him self from his friends and family as to not to endanger the people around him or himself. Shinichi's independence from his parasite and retention of emotion cause other Parasites to see him as a threat. He and his Parasite must defend themselves from attacks by other Parasites, their independent thinking and ability to work as a team, gives them a tactical edge over normal Parasites.
Character
Shinichi is a thoughtful and nice person who is considered a bit of a wimp. As the series progresses, his bond with Migi becomes stronger and he begins to think like a parasite losing the ability to empathise with others and even losing his ability to cry even when a close friend dies. He does however gain significant resolve and is willing to fight battles that he doesn't stand much chance to save his friends.
